Yvonne is spot on for this one. We need a change in state laws to prevent the gaming of the system.

Why point out the 100-year old's race?

I don't think you quite understand how Uber works for drivers. Once a driver accepts a fare, he is no longer able to accept other fares. So, he HAS to cancel, otherwise he risks losing out on whatever he fares he is hoping to get. As soon as you tell him you have no intention to cancel, he will get pissy, and after a minute or so, he WILL cancel.

I got an A+ in Uber class and have been using it long enough and often enough to know, haha. Yes, I know they can't take another rider until the present ride is canceled, but some of them are a**holes and don't wanna cancel and not risk a mark against their records. Apparently, they'd rather play chicken with the rider and not take another rider. Or, a more likely scenario, they're on their way to NYC on the highway and gave up on getting a passenger to NY and don't care if they can pick up a ride.

I've had drivers accept my pick up from newport and then just skip out and head to NYC through the tunnel and not cancel. I have no choice but to cancel at that point. Only option is to report them.

Sigh.... Do not cancel when this happens. You're part of the problem. If you're in a rush, switch to Lyft and the uber guy will eventually have to cancel.

I have sympathy for the drivers, but not the ones playing games. Never cancel and report the ones that call to ask where you are heading.

I'm all in favor of additional expansion of commercial enterprise and restaurants and everything, and taller buildings. But I hope Prato gets shut down. The city needs to stop giving variances and re-zoning to everybody that comes crawling over.

If Prato wanted to open a restaurant, they should have done their homework and found a place that was zoned properly. The people that moved to that block did so knowing that there was not a restaurant with backyard seating, and all of a sudden there will be a bunch of noise in their backyard every night just because Prato didn't do their homework?

Same goes with all these developers asking for variances to build taller otherwise they can't make any money. I would like to see JC buildings go taller, but it's not our damn problem if you paid too much for your land! Do your research ahead of time and make a plan that will make you money, rather than buying in and then bitching about how you need a variance.

I'd be in favor of this IF the zoning code was amended and made more flexible and there wasn't such a great need for variances.

The second and third buildings on the agenda are in the Village and are asking for variances - 2 extra stories each.

20 parking spaces for 45 units at 380 Newark (NC zoning), 0 parking spaces for 14 units at 375 Fifth Street (R1 zoning)

More than likely this is just misinformation from our resident Yvonne. I assume council meetings are recorded and part of the public record, so it should be pretty easy to verify what was actually said.

Yvonne, why did you not record like when you caught former gov McGreevey thrown out of that public meeting. Now that was gold!!

Obviously it is wrong, though Kopko, a Bayonne resident, is realistically speaking as a candidate not a citizen. He has been trying to bait people by making unfounded accusations and smears.

Yvonne and others often complain that when the same talking heads speak up in public comment, that the Council ignores them. Now when they speak, Yvonne decries it for being "political."

Nevertheless, if Rolando explicitly made an endorsement of candidates from the podium it is clearly inappropriate. But I have no interest in nurturing Kopko's whining victim attitude that he has shamefully displayed throughout this campaign.

The luxury development boom is confined to one small area of Jersey City. You will not find any luxury developments in the Heights, where I live; you will see a lot of children in an area with low incomes though - http://www.city-data.com/income/income-Jersey-City-New-Jersey.html - and I think you would need to determine if the criteria from Abbott II still apply:

- must be those with the lowest socio-economic status, thus assigned to the lowest categories on the New Jersey Department of Education's District Factor Groups (DFG) scale;

- "evidence of substantive failure of thorough and efficient education;"

- have a large percentage of disadvantaged students who need "an education beyond the norm;"

- existence of an "excessive tax [for] municipal services" in the locality where the district is located.

The last issue has been much discussed/lamented on this board, I suspect it still applies along with the other criteria.

Would never give money to Friends of Liberty State Park for its partisan billboard which unfairly places all of the blame on the gov. It appears the organizes of this protest are totally clueless on where they should direct their anger: the legislature.

There are many, many things which can be pinned squarely on the gov but this is not one of them.

Christie's administration pushed this sneaky piece of $hit through at the last second. Then said they would revise it but either way still want to sell out Liberty State Park.

With all due respect, that isn't accurate. Look at who sponsored the bill and added the amendment, which was approved by the full legislature.

Agreed, and so why does Hoboken also still receive Abbott funding? All the negative attention is on Jersey City, but Hoboken is the biggest offender.

With all the new luxury development going on in Jersey City and Hoboken, I'm left wondering when the Abbott district subsidies will end. What is the mechanism to remove a district from Abbott status?

Although I'm a huge supporter of new development, and tools such as tax abatements to encourage development, I think the suburban areas have a point that Jersey City and Hoboken receive hundreds of millions annually in state education aid when they can rely on their own ratable base like the rest of the state.

I also wanted to highlight Hoboken especially. It's one of the wealthiest communities in the State with a median family income of over $120,000 and an average home value of over $550,000. How can this community be in same Abbott district class as Camden, Trenton, and Newark. It makes no sense!

Anything? A nuclear power plant? A 24-hour beer garden/disco/casino? Another Goldman Sachs tower?

Why not a 5-story building? Given the current real estate boom, I doubt it's really a choice of 7 stories or nothing at all.

Should we even have zoning? Should we try to preserve the character of the Village, or just let the developers do whatever they want and just let this place turn into Houston?

Typical NIMBY fear tactics... Yawn.

This is a great location for a 5 to 7 story building.
