Is Sliwa going to be at the neighborhood watch meeting tonight at Grace?

Dunno, but Mike form the GAs will be there tonight. Should be very informative.

Just curious...to whom exactly are your comments directed? It's hard to tell.

Though they may have had a limited presence here in the past, I think this is the first time they're seriously considering a local chapter here in JC. But judging from your posts its kind of obvious you're a JC police officer or somehow officially connected to them, so this kind of response is expected. Usually the most vocal opponents to their presence are the local police departments. I don't knock the police officers and I kind of feel like a lot of people here are very quick to jump on their case, but I do feel that they're only as effective as their management- like any organization- and the management here is terrible. The GA coming here, coupled with Fulop's very public calls for change in the department's management structure, should get things moving along for the better, and hopefully throughout the whole of Jersey City and not just Downtown.

I was just downstairs talking to Mirna at the Deli ( I live across the street). She is doing well, and her bruises are almost gone. She is extremely grateful for all the visits and calls.

Even more intersting - I talked on the phone with Mike while at the Deli. Mike is a Guardian Angel and another neighbor of mine whom I have yet to meet. He is the one who is organizing the GAs to help out here. We talked a bit and I told him about JC list and the interest & concern people on here have about crime. He plans to get on here with us soon to help with information and questions.

Mike is also planning to be at the Crime Watch meeting tomorrow night to meet more neighbors and talk about the GAs plans. He encourages AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE to attend tomorrow night.

Also, they will be rescheduling the meeting at the deli, probably for Tuesday. The guy from the GAs was stuck in Miami due to snow and that is why today's meeting got postponed. Mike has promised to call me and post here when he has more info. on the rescheduling of the meeting.

Caps - you said you were having a volunteer meeting at the Merchant on Wed. Feb. 7th. However, Feb. 7th is a Tuesday (today). So please clarify exactly when it will be. I've been interested in volunteering for awhile and would like to come to this.

Thanks

Falcon - in the words of Morrisey, "How soon is now??"

Preeeettty pleeeeeeaaaassse...with sugar on top! We need this spot on the boards. It would encourage people to organize outtings in a more frequent and informal sense.

I agree on the way the calendar postings are filtered and displayed. However, I have found through participation on other boards that it is helpful to have an event specific place on the board where some threads can be started about specific events or outtings. This helps generate interest among people to attend, discuss who is going where, etc. I just think it would foster a bit more socializing and community among us. I have lived in the neighborhood for 9 years, but I don't know very many JC residents. I know I like going out locally, and I'd love to make some more friends with which to do that.

Plus having that event forum will actually keep the board less cluttered and easier to browse beacause there will now be a specific home for event/ outting related chat.

Yes, indeed! This is my first day on this site, and I am glad to have discovered it after living in the downtown area for 9 years now!

I think it should be a general place to list events too - arts, reading, club nights, bar happy hours & parties...Perhaps it can be called "What's Happening? Arts, Entertainment and Events in JC". I'd love to see a place where all events were listed and could be discussed, where I could jumpt to see just what was shakin' everyo single night and who was going. I think it would help us all to meet each other better too.
