while music tastes vary, I very much enjoy the eclectic mix and volume at Skinners . Obviously, bars like the White Star and the 7 are different type venues but the music in the bar area at Skinner's actually is a major plus.

Brightside should borrow their catalog!

Agree with previous post. I'm not as concerned with the location. Also, could we get a little more Jersey City flavor or artists involved with the decision making...like a Kaws, etc.

I went to school in Philly so nothing on that level but I've enjoyed Carmine's Cheesesteak. Also, years ago, had a huge, tasty cheesesteak from Jordan's Catfish Station but I'n not sure / don't think that's been open for years.

I believe there is another thread on the Barge Inn but the restaurant portion is great value and a lot of fun. Really nice service and I've enjoyed all my meals. The homemade limoncello is a nice touch.

His banning of Snooki (I'm not a fan of Jersey Shore) just reinforces my opinion of the establishment already. When they first opened, I bought a fairly expensive bottle of wine (upwards of $50) that I was not charged for - it was amongst a large number of items. New employees, new register, etc...I felt bad and walked back about 7 blocks back to the store and let them know what happened. Paid for my wine and left

Not even a Thank You. He barely even made eye contact. Went back many times after that and always felt unwelcomed for some reason. Thankfully, the farily new liquor store on Grove (Manilla) north of the Path Station has a great selection, reasonable prices and NICE employees.

They also play at Roberto Clemente Field on 6th and Manilla.

The kids have a blast. Sometimes communication is tricky from the league to the coaches to parents but it has gotten better with the website.

The shorter, older gentlemen outside Paradise Deli's name is Melvin and he is defnitely harmless.

I've lived in JC for around 15 years and he's been there as long as I can remember.

I learned from a JC Cop that Melvin is a lifelong JC resident and that when he was young, suffered a devastating brain injury.

He sometimes can be annoying, but is not a threat in any capacity.

I've twice had success:

Once by requesting garbage from a local business be cleaned up after being strewn across my street, sidewalks, neighboring yards etc.

Second by having garbage removed from a vacant lot.

Both time were almost handled the same day. If possible, attach pictures.

I was incredibly pleased and very surprised.

Good job JC!

Thanks for the link - very helpful.

For the last two weeks I've noticed a tremendous amount of garbage on Bay Street, between Marin and Grove/Manilla. Looks like the folks at Powerhouse Lounge printed up a big box of promo cards that ended up all over the surrounding neighborhood...the box is actually there as well. I suspect they paid someone to hand them out and that person just chucked the whole box...

Also, I'm pretty sure the scene featuring Clemenza's famous line from the Godfather "Leave the gun, take the cannoli's" was shot in the "weeds" of JC.

Some of the stories I head about the Grateful Dead shows at the Stanley Theater and Roosevelt stadium are crazy.

Great idea; love - Vanishing New York.

The White Eagle on Newark is incredibly legendary in Basketball.

The Second Street Bakery is/should be/will be legendary.

Just a couple...

There's still plenty of history/charachter/flavor that should be documented.

I had an interesting takeout cheese steak there about 8 or 9 years ago. It had strange hours even back then. I walked passed there about a month ago and saw people inside, but did not look open.

Always wondered if this was the same Jordan from Newark Ave's "Jordan's Seafood & Steak."

Re: Bob Hurley and St. Anthony on 60 MINUTES

Just can't stay away

St.Anthony is competiting against HS teams that are built exactly the same way. Max Preps which ranks the best teams in the country is full of exactly the same types of programs. This year's star players Kyle Anderson and Myles Mack were not from JC but transferred their when their school closed (Patterson Catcholic). Recent Star players like Tyshawn Taylor was from Hoboken, Dom Cheek and Mike Rosario were from JC. So while Coach Hurley fields a team not just from JC, at least the players are from the area...or have circumstances that are understandable...unlike teams like Oak Hill Academy with players from around the country. It's silly to act like the teams that St. Anthony schedules and are compared against are "run of the mill" public schools like in the 70's. People that actually follow big time HS basketball understand that this has been the "norm" since the 80's. Even CBA from Lincroft gave out scholarships in 88 when I played. Private Schools have always played by different rules.

Like Bright Moment posted, Coach Hurley makes me proud to be associated with Jersey City. Class Act and congratulations again to the extended St. Anthony family.

Anyone who is a sports fan should purchase "the Street Stops Here" a PBS documentary on the program which benefits the school.

Rich is a great guy. Good for Jersey City and specifically the neighborhood. Post Net is a quality business and he is the kind of business man we need more of.

I've only worked with him maybe 10 times in 3 years but it's always been fair and personally, he's been extremely nice. He is an asset to the Grove Street block and his well liked by his neighbors (both residential and commercial)

I've recommended Post Net to countelss DT JCers and will continue to do so.

They were literally dealing Heroin out of JC Winstons...no different? Check the Police and newspaper reports.

There are thousands's of towns where you can live and not have bars. Jersey City is not one of them and thankfully never will be.

And I did live on Mercer for almost a decade and neaby for almost 20.

Have you ever even been to Hoboken? They have as many, if not more, residential neighborhood bars.

When you state that "I was here paying hefty taxes long before most of you realized than Jersey City is hotter than your quiet little towns," I feel like perhaps you would enjoy their "quiet little towns"...no?

And I hope it stays closed. I was walking there around 8 pm; it was so beautiful and quiet. I?ve never liked any bar on this street and I don?t think that Winston was any worse than Barrow Bar. No difference to me whatsoever, same reddish faces, football shirts and low pitch noises, and yes, I was here paying hefty taxes long before most of you realized than Jersey City is hotter than your quiet little towns.

There is no place for a rowdy bar in the middle of a residential neighborhood period. You can try to keep doors tightly shut during ball games and drunken crowd under control, but there will be always a drunken moron outside screaming and yelling when his team scores. We are talking about noise, offensive behavior and profanities, loud patrons smoking-yelling and pissing all over the streets. Most of you don?t care, because you just come here for a few hours a week. It?s long enough to make our lives miserable. Maybe it?s time for home owners and property tax payers to introduce a new law: All bars in residential areas should be closed after midnight on weekends and 10 pm on weekdays, or converted to something else, perhaps coffee shops? It would work for hard working families and kids. Rest of you can take the Light Rail to Hoboken.

FullSummary Poll: Where is New York's 6th Borough? If New York had to pick a 6th borough (or find a replacement for Staten Island if they ever secede), where would it be? A classic pick is Philadelphia, and more recently there's been CRAZY TALK of Cleveland, Ohio becoming a destination for priced-out New Yorkers. In fact, we received many personal messages from ex-New Yorkers living over there, singing its praises as the nation's "best kept secret."

Before Cleveland, there was talk of Jersey City, Atlanta, and even Yonkers as being contenders for the coveted title?they've all garnered press as the latest migration trend (as have the suburbs, and Kansas City). So, if we're going to extend a prestigious 6th Borough title upon one of them, which should it be?

There is a guy who walks up and down Newark Avenue (hangs about by the Grove Street Path) I've seen him for years now , who fits a similar description...might be a bit shorter who winks at me, etc and many of my friends on many. many occasions. I just laugh it off now, but I will admit the first couple times it caught me off guard.

I don't know anything about him or his following "kids." In terms of my experience, it's nothing to worry about. But again, High School kids is a whole different story.

in the last three weeks downtown, I've seen pics of red tail hawks eating pigeons on hoods of parked cars, wild turkeys playing frogger at 14B and now a ten point buck, (apparently living downtown for three weeks?) decides to run through town and then swim over to Governor's Island...

Really?

almost miss the stories of poisoning pigeons, giant rats, roaches/bed bugs and pitbulls raising hell.
