Re: Your favorite grocery shop?

I agree, Key Foods is a great improvement over C-Town. I am suspicious of their food labeling, though. They have been labeling their salmon as 'wild sockeye salmon' for many months. It doesn't look like wild sockeye salmon and they sell it at about half the price of wild sockeye salmon. I asked someone there about it once, but got no answer. (i did call city inspectors, but that didn't seem to be effective, either). I've also seen them label tilapia as 'farm raised salmon', and when I let them know, I got a lot of attitude. Also, keep an eye on the meat coolers; sometimes the temperatures seem too low.

Their deli guys have been great, the produce is pretty good.

Also 1+ for TenderShoot.

Sanitary ruined one of my garments a few years ago. I brought it back to Maria (i think i had the receipt) and she was very apologetic and said they'd give me the money but I had to come back for it. I had to go back four times, asking for the money. There was always some excuse. I don't know if they thought that I would eventually forget it. When i finally lost my patience, they said, 'ok ok ok, here's your money'.

+1! I think it is inconsiderate for households to street park more than one car. I see households with a garage (that is not used for parking a car) street park more than one car, as well. Not cool. I am also worried about the 10 new condos on Jersey and 4th adding 10+ cars to the neighborhood. I know the rule is that developers don't have to provide parking with <10 units, but there is no room for more street parking in this area. Another Quote:

I like this method!

We had mouse problems and didn't have much luck with the traditional traps. I hate to admit it, but we have had excellent results with an electronic mouse repellent. I bought it at BB&B for around $20 out of desperation. The research that i did on it wasn't definitive, one way or another, but I swear it works. It doesn't bother my pets at all, either. It may take a week or so for the mouse to leave. And yes, find the holes and plug them with steel wool.

Saw a beautiful skunk on Jersey Avenue and 1st yesterday morning before 6AM. The white stripe was long and flowing, like a luxurious mohawk. I got a photo, but it didn't come out very well. At least he wasn't heading towards me! Yeah, I know, I say 'beautiful' now... until i get sprayed :(

I read that their eyesight is poor, but their hearing is good, so I make sure to make some noise.

We called Edgard at Avolar on Friday (based on jclist recommendations). They gave us an estimate over the phone. He showed up first thing on Saturday morning to install a chandelier. He was professional and friendly. The job was complete within an hour. We would definitely use him again!

I don't know if I shared this story yet...

I was in Washington DC for a conference. At the same time, there was a national police conference. I walked out of my hotel one night and right there was a group of JCPD, in their finest, shiny, formal uniforms. They looked so nice and professional! I stopped short to say hello and compliment them and one of them snarled at me, "What the f**k are you looking at?"

Stay classy JCPD.

Worth trying is the Oyster, Burger, Brew night at Maritime Parc for $20 on thursday nights. You get six oysters, a choice of burger (pork/beef, beef, scallop, and salmon), duck fat fries, and a beer or wine. So far we've had the pork, scallop, and salmon burgers. The pork is outstanding. The scallop burger was surprisingly good, too. The salmon was disappointing - dry. If you go, i recommend you make reservations.

Re: Brick Haus Gym

i don't want to take this off topic, but I have to. i have been a member of Brick Haus for several years and i have been happy enough there.

BUT today there was an inconsiderate slob who was on a treadmill this morning around 10:30 AM with red workout pants on, coughing and hacking for 20 minutes (not even covering his mouth).

- If you are sick, stay home.
- at least, pick a machine that is not in the middle of others.
- Clean the machine off when you are done (whether you are sick or not),
- i know that covering your mouth isn't very effective, but at least make an attempt.

when i was leaving, i saw this nasty germ-spreader downstairs, in the free weight area.

So, whenever you get on a machine, just imagine this was the last person on there. Take care to clean it first!

Shame on you Mr. Disgusting Red Pants.

Very very good wings at Delenio's. I'd say the best we've had in a long time. Definitely nothing that good in JC. Surprising, I wouldn't think to order wings there, but I'm glad we did.

I've seen a pretty large skunk twice this week on Jersey Avenue between 4th and 5th Streets. One time was at about 5AM and the other was 9PM.

At 5AM, he was in someone's trash, and we got very close before I saw him - only a couple of feet away.

At 9AM, he was walking out of the alley, towards us (I had two dogs) and he just kept coming towards us, which was odd. I made some loud noises and he eventually turned around.

Luckily, we didn't get sprayed. keep an eye out!

It used to be open, at seemingly sporadic hours, until about a year ago. They got a new awning, it looked like they were doing a little bit of work in there (the Video Box was waning), and haven't been open since.

We got a Fischer & Paykel into our challenging entry restrictions. Our model has a bottom freezer. We have had it for about four years and haven't had any problems. It has an EZCLean surface that is awesome.

We did look at the Liebherr refrigerators, too. They were beautiful. For some reason, the dimensions didn't work for us.

We've eaten there several times. Decent food. Never a bad meal. Big, big portions. But we tend to forget about it for many months at a time. So, we go maybe once or twice a year. I agree that the interior is dated. Service has always been welcoming and friendly.

but it's been made clear to us that their big late-night clientele is the PD. So the the OP story...? Not buying it.

A couple of times, when we've put out more than usual or some bulky items, we've given them $10 each. Once we gave the driver a $20 and told him to distribute it. That probably wasn't a good idea.

I know I pay a lot in taxes, but that sure is a thankless job with crappy hours.

Paper should be separate from other recyclables, except for the exception of cartons. Milk cartons, juice boxes should mix in with the cans, bottles, plastic. I don't know why!

... Currently the Authority requires residents to recycle all mixed newspaper in addition to magazines, junk mail, office paper, telephone books, cardboard boxes, corrugated boxes and laundry detergent boxes.

Such materials must be tied or placed in recycling containers and placed curbside no earlier than 7:00 PM the night before your scheduled collection day.

Co-mingled materials which include glass bottles, aluminum cans, metal cans, milk cartons, drink boxes, water containers, food containers, household cleaner containers, laundry detergent bottles, shampoo bottles, and other related plastic containers can all be placed curbside in a recycling container no earlier than 7:00 PM the night before your scheduled collection day.

Recyclables must not be placed out for collection in plastic bags. Placing such in plastic bags seriously hinders our recycling process. Recyclables shall be placed in large plastic containers.

In my area, the post-pick-up messes are always in front of the same properties. It mostly seems to happen on the recycle days and people put out trash that is not separated properly. First comes the trash guys. If it looks like it might be recycling, they leave it. Then comes the cans/glass/plastic, last is the paper guys. If the trash is mixed, they leave it.

We try to tip the trash men when we see them, too, but it's not easy. Once I chased them down the street in the early morning.
