i've been to several local hospitals for emergencies.

meadowlands is my favorite.

jcmc, despite being one of the best trauma centers in the state, straight up suck for emergencies.

the jersey city gun license bureau is located right next to the police station on erie st... just an fyi.

new jersey legislation subscribes to Castle Doctrine btw, though it does require a reasonable effort to retreat

itd be cool if they let you sit at one of the tables in the bar.. not sure if they would if you're not eating but the bar is generally kinda cozy at bistro la source.

if you dont mind a short train ride i really have to recommend flatiron lounge on 19th st right off of 6th ave, 5 minutes from the path station. total perfect first date spot. dark, cozy, comfortable and you can have a conversation there. its got a speakeasy vibe to it and a great cocktail list. also if you get a little hungry theres boqueria a few doors down - awesome tapas place. we did this a couple weeks ago and it makes for a really cool date.

whatever place is closest to your apt.

seriously though, majestic is great as long as the music isnt too loud. skinners is kinda "meh" for just drinks. bistro la source is another good recommendation. south city grill is nice at the bar too. fire and oak is decent.

have you considered the golden cicada?

nothing tremendously wrong with the guy on 2nd street. of my friends that have use him they said he was no better than "OK" and that he was always diffucult to get a hold of.

the dude in Bayonne had his phone off the hook for like 6 weeks straight.

very simple... to directly help the animals.

as far as numbers go there is a figure referred to as a Live Release Rate; this includes all of the animals that left the shelter to go to adoption, rescue, etc and all of the animals that died if illness, euthanized by court order, euthanized by owner consent, euthanized for failing evaluation or for any other reason. LHS is obligated by contract to provide euthanasia services, even if by proxy, for the courts.

Last year, LHS achieved its highest monthly live release rate (I believe in March or April) which was a bit over 82% if i recall correctly. this number is respectable for even a no kill shelter to achieve, nevermind a shelter contracted for municipal services.

the total number of animals can be found in the annual report (needs to be requested, i dont know where it is posted online) but it is over 2,500.

on what are you basing what the staff should be paid? have you done any research on the subject or is this just opinion?

just because its a non profit (which is different from a not-for-profit, btw) doesn not mean that the staff should not be compensated fairly.

I'm just trying to make a point here, i actually do not fully agree with the way certain members of the staff were paid. however, it takes man hours to run a shelter effectively.

without an ED, i'd guess the payroll to be in the neighborhood of 300k/yr give or take, and they are drastically understaffed for the amount of animals that come through the doors.

steve is correct in saying that fingers can be pointed at a lot of people both in the recent and distant past. thats about it though.

the term "no-kill" in its ideal incarnation/definition/practice i believe is one of the most noble goals in animal welfare.

however, for months, dogs have been stacked in wire crates on top of each other. when one animal urinates or defecates it can easily drip onto the neighbor below. thats just one small example but to say thats a "good start" to anything aside from inhumane treatment, disease and indignity is laughable. if given the choice for MY OWN pets i would rather them be euthanized than live in those conditions.

go to the shelter steve, see what that "good start" has created.

and the sad fact is that this ill prepared push for no kill created a scenario that now jeopardizes the entire operation. what will happen if the state takes over?

i dont know if the questions directed at me are rhetorical or not but yes, i have personally seen many dog evaluations at LHS as recent as last weekend. none have ever involved another dog in any way.

personally, i do think that humane euthanasia for unadoptable animals living in the current conditions at LHS right now is acceptable.

somehow, i dont think you really wanted to hear my opinion. stop your coffe clutch bitch sessions and go down there and maybe help the staff clean, it'd make much more of an impact.

for the person who made the accusations about the 2 dog evaluations, who did you see performing these evaluations? post thier name here.

the only lies here are the ones you are telling. LHS does not now and has never performed evaluations in the manner you describe.

Under no circumstances would any animal be euthanized that had potential adopters aside from aggression or serious illness and in either of those cases, those dogs would not be presented to the public as options for adoption.

take your BS elsewhere.

well many of us are now focused on physically contributing to the animals in need at the shelter and not just talking. theres too much work to be done at the moment to give this any energy.

BTW, keep an eye out for a NEW inspection report. apparently the state returned last week. It will be made public as soon as it is processed.

theres no real need to beat a dead horse here but before the interim board and before the board that recently resigned, there was yet another board that was bullied out of thier positions!

and before the most recent ED there was a prior one who was terminated!

If these people who are supposed to be central to the operation and development cannot exert enough influence on thier own organization to control it then it is simply ludicrous to imply that HAA should be able to.

Also, to imply that HAA had influence because of DJ is far from the truth. first of all, she was the legal counsel for HAA, not a board member or founding member. second, it would have been a conflict of interest for her to work closely on any matters associated with LHS because she was representing a former employee who was suing LHS.

your expectations and assumptions are unrealistic and very indicative of the conspirator-y nature of this bs.

first of all, why would HAA be expected to have any more influence than the board of LHS who quite obviously has not had "control" of the organization for years?

second, recieving a passing grade on an inspection and achieving the highest live release rates the shelter has ever had would hardly warrant as involved of an effort as the current state of affairs does.

your argument is flawed and quite obviously just a personal jab.

until any of the catty, negative people on this thread can actually document the bs they are saying or show some real numbers, please dont expect to be taken seriously. that would be the only "joke" on this thread.
