If the recall is simply being used as a vague threat to exert pressure on the council members, then that makes more sense to me.

While I agree we missed our opportunity at election time, we can do nothing and just let Healy and his Captive Council do their business as usual and keep screwing over the residents of Jersey City or we can attempt a recall.

With regards to your mention of people showing up at the council meetings at two of them when myself and other folks pushed for a rally regarding the tax increase we had upwards of 300 people show up, so I beleive we can get residents involved towards wanting to attempt this recall and once started we will gain plenty of momentum.

Here is why we want to recall them.

Our elected representatives act like they are above the law, and do not feel accountable to the us Citizen?s of Jersey City the voters and taxpayers.

Corruption, Mayor Healy?s people Mariano Vega Phil Kenny, Guy Catrillo, and his deputy mayor, Leona Beldini.

The Jersey City residents deserve leadership that is committed to aiding us in our day-to-day struggles, and not just in rewarding their cronies at our expense.

Our taxes go up with nothing to show for it.

Team Healy will stay there. They backed the 8MM loan so now they need to support the hotel.

Volunteers needed for Jersey City Recall
#65
Home away from home
Home away from home

Last week we held a meeting to discuss moving forward. Most felt that a city wide recall should be done in addition to circulating petitions for wards. Ward C residents, whose Councilwoman is Nidia Lopez, showed the most interest in forming a committee.

Three people are required to form a committee and submit the Notice of Intention. If you would like to be part of a committee, or start 1 in your ward, please let us know by emailing deltafoxm249@YAHOO.COM

We hope to get the paperwork out in the next week to begin the process and obtain approval to start gathering signatures. You must be a registered voter to collect signatures or to be on a committee.

The Recall Process
Below is a summary of the process to begin a recall petition in a simple format. This should answer any questions that may have come up.

I know this may sound all too confusing. No worries, we will guide everyone through the initial process and prepare the documents.

Once approval is granted, we will have 160 days to complete the task at hand. Any registered voter that resides within Jersey City can circulate the petition during that time.

5 Steps:
1. The recall committee serves the Notice of Intention on the election official (clerk). The election official has 3 days to approve or send back with a letter explaining why the Notice is not in compliance. The recall committee can then correct and refile.

2. If the election official approves the Notice of Intention, the election official sends it back to the recall committee with the stamp. The election official must also notify the elected official in writing. The elected official has 5 days to either file an answer or an acknowledgment with the election official. If the elected official files an answer, the recall committee is required to affix that to the recall petition.

3. The elected official has 2 days to forward the election official's answer or acknowledgment to the recall committee, or, if the elected official fails to do anything, serve the recall committee with a written statement that the elected official failed to respond.

4. The recall committee can begin collecting signatures on the petition.

5. Within 10 days of formation, the recall committee must file a Form RC-1 (designation of campaign depository and treasurer) and Form RC-2 (registration statement) with ELEC.

Jersey City has become a breeding ground for Drug Dealers, Murderers, Gangs, Violent Crime and overall Criminal Activity.
When is Mayor Healy and our Chief of Police going to get serious about the crime issue in Jersey City. What has the Healy Council done towards addressing the crime issue? I have yet to see them propose any solutions. Under Healy and his Council (most of them being in office for numerous years) Jersey City has become a comfortable place for criminals to live and go about their business.

Mayor Healy - Failure
Healy Council - Failures
Dr Epps - Failure
Parents not engaged with their Children - Failures

Where is the Accountability? Where are the Community Leaders?
Where is Viola Richardson? Where is Sandra Cunningham? Where is Charles Manior? Heck Where is Al Sharpton?

Is anyone going to step up and take some accountability?

I feel bad for those children that do want to learn, most don't stand a chance as the leaders in Jersey City are failing them.

The public school system once worked well in Jersey City, my dad went to Lincoln, he must be turning over in his grave. I went to Ferris and on to college to a successful working career.

Jersey City once had leadership that cared!

Either our leaders step up, do their jobs or Jersey City is doomed.

It all starts with leadership, from the Mayor to the Parents.

Mayor Healy does not even come close to having the balls of Giuliani. As long as Healy and his Council are in office, the criminal activity will get worse.

Healy nor his Team could care less about Jersey City, especially the Greenville/Lafayette section, yet the people in that area continue to vote and support him and his team, go figure.

Those criminals Giuliani chased out of NYC now reside is the safe haven of Jersey City thanks to Healy's lack of a crime policy. Cory Booker is chasing the criminals out of Newark and guess where the are now residing.

Healy lives in the Heights where we also have much criminal activity, he does not even care about his own back yard, so how could you expect him to care about any other section of Jersey City.

We need vigilantes and mercenaries in Jersey City to get these animals off the streets.

As for educating and providing jobs, these animals do not go to school or work. The life of crime, joining gangs are what they have choose.

We need to rid these animals and their parents!

With the amount of crime in the Greenville/Lafayette section along with crime in any other section of Jersey City, we need Vigilantes and/or Mercenaries to root out and the criminals and eliminate them once and for all.

Letter: Jersey City officials hid coming reval
By The Jersey Journal
May 06, 2010, 5:00AM

There is going to be a citywide re-valuation of all properties in Jersey City from the current existing value of 27.5 to 100 percent. Feel free to contact the Jersey City Tax Assessor's office , the Tax Collector or the Hudson County tax board.

There are a number of irregularities related to this action. Jersey City recently pushed through a 15 percent tax increase immediately after the Hudson County assessors arrived at the 27.5 percent figure. I think that I don't have to spell out what that will mean to the effects of a property revaluation in Jersey City.

The City Council, while never seeing an abatement that it didn't like, has been aware of the upcoming revaluation and chose to hide this fact to their constituents while granting millions of dollars in abatements to developers that supported their political campaigns. Abated properties are not subject to any tax increase as a result of any re-valuation of property in Jersey City until their 20- 30-year abatements have been completed.

Hearing all those folks complaining about Healy and his Council is hilarious. Why did you vote for them? Or even better why did you not come out to vote and vote them out in the last election.

When has Healy and his Council ever been honest and upfront with the Jersey City residents of course they chose to hide the upcoming revaluation to their constituents while granting millions of dollars in abatements to developers that supported their political campaigns.

You get what you deserve when you let this gang get voted back in, so I hope all those that vote for Team Healy are proud of themselves, and those that did not vote a kicking themselves in the a**.

As for the mention of a recall, it will be happening soon against a few of the council persons as I know the team that is working on putting recall committees together ward by ward.

Much research has been done, the numbers to recall Healy or At-Large or too challenging and probably would fail, however recall by the wards are doable. I know the team is looking for folks in a couple of the wards to set up the three person committee that is needed. My understanding is that Ward C and Ward A have their committees set. No need to go after Ward B since that ward is up for election in November, so the other wards need the committee members.

Bill Gaughan, yes you are right we are in tough times, however, thanks to the irresponsible decisions Team Healy Council members such as You, Brennan, Vega, Flood, Sottolano have made over the years are a good part of the reason Jersey City is in the situation regarding the budget.

Have you ever thought for one moment about taking responsibility for your poor decisions and how they would effect the residents.

Team Healy has used City Hall like their own ATM, and when they need more money, they just put the burden on the tax payers and raise taxes.

Has any of the Team Healy council proposed solutions? Of course not that means they would have work for the people.

Gaughan, I must ask, what tough times are you facing, multiple jobs, pensions, family members with jobs, you have county and city cars, have workers come over and trim your trees, all on the tax payers dime.
How much time do you really spend in Jersey City, compared to the time at you Spring Lake home at the shore where you have also drove your taxpayer car too from time to time.

Gaughan you have been on the city council the longest, for shame you should know better, I know you started out years ago for all the right reasons, but you have stayed for all the wrong reasons.

Council Approves Final Budget
Almost ten months into the fiscal year, the City Council approved a budget resolution for 2010 last night.

The Council's resolution included significant changes to the yearly spending plan submitted by Mayor Healy in January.

The resolution passed five to three. Journal Square Councilwoman Nidia Lopez, West Side Councilman David Donnelly and Downtown Councilman Steven Fulop voted against the budget.

The budget passed after more than eighty percent of the money it accounts for has already been spent; the city is funded through "temporary emergency appropriations" resolutions routinely approved by the City Council. The fiscal year ends July 1.

Total appropriations actually went up in the final budget, to $509,869,483 from $507,865,455. However, the final budget did cut the tax levy to just below the state limit, $185 million. Property taxes will increase $572 for every $100,000 of assessed value.

The Council's budget made some significant cuts from Mayor Healy's proposed budget.

The final spending plan cuts $2.5 million from the mayor's appropriation the the Police Department, $1.1 million from the Department of Health and Human Services and $1 million from the Department of Public Works.

Before voting for the budget, Heights Councilman Bill Gaughan said it was the "toughest year" to make a budget in his seventeen years on the council.

Fulop chastised the other members of the council for blaming outside forces, specifically the economic and Governor Christie, for the city's dire fiscal condition. Fulop pointed out that since the budget was balanced last year with one-time revenues from a pension deferral law and a $15 million settlement with Honeywell, it was apparent there would be an imbalance this year, requiring either large cuts or a tax increase.

Bergen-Lafayette Councilwoman Viola Richardson was absent from the meeting.

You are so correct about education being the answer. This is not just a Jersey City issue, but an issue across the U.S.
What do we do about teenagers that don't want to attend school. I mentioned this in an earlier posts.

We cannot continue to allow these teenagers roam the streets and not attend school towards getting an education.

If they choose not to want to go to school, then they should be given no other choice except to be put in the military, work camps, or controlled environment where they can be given discipline, get some sort of education, perhaps learn a skill and hopefully take pride in oneself.

If you can get to these teenagers starting right out of grade school and get those off the streets that don't want to attend school, but rather commit crime, they must be removed from society, put in controlled environment towards being given some kind of direction and not take to the life of crime hopefully before it's not too late.

Thats an awful idea. Many street gangs acquire weapons through this exact process of joining our armed forces. I do disagree with the fact that we spend so much keeping them in prison.

Frankly prisoners of this caliber get too much while in prison. Hear this idea out for the murderers, rapists, pedophiles, muggers, car jackers. All the violent criminals. The ones that physically cause harm to others and cause people to fear the streets.

1. Everybody gets solitary. 23 hours a day. in a cell thats just long enough for a bed and maybe 3x3 feet for the toilet.

2. They get the scraps of the guards and the white collar criminals to eat. Why should they get 3 squares a day.

3. No books, no gyms, no personal effects.

4. Showers once a week and no cleaning of the cells.

Criminals know how easy it is to be in prison. They're like resorts to these criminals.

What will be done Mayor Healy to prevent these murders and violent crimes. Does anyone have an idea what the Healy crime policy is? Where is Viola Richardson, another murder in her ward and she is nowhere to be found.

How about out the president of the city council, Big-shot Brennan, what does he have to say. What has Brennan ever done towards presenting any solutions regarding the crime or an issues we face in Jersey City.

Does, Healy, or Brennan, realize the crisis here with regards to crime? They are probably just going on with with business as usual for themselves drinking in a bar.
