I am so getting tired of reading about the horrible things that go on in Jersey City. There is corruption everywhere not just JC. And, the reason that long time residents do not rally is because we know these people before they became politicans. They were once righteous individuals wanting to correct and wipe out corruption in JC, the place where they were born, went to school and raised their children. They weren't here for the cheaper rent, or because they couldn't afford to live in NYC, they were here because this was and is home to them and us. We know these individuals as classmates, sons, daughters, fathers, husbands and friends. Some of these good people got caught doing unsavoring things; but they are still human beings that deserve their day in court. I am a home owner, paying massive taxes, and I don't like it anymore that anyone else. But enought already, everyone will get their due, if they are proven guilty then they will go to jail. For those that call for Vega resignation, you don't know him, not the real person. For years he sponsored ski clinics, soccer and baseball teams for City children. He supported the arts, the museusm, the JC reservoir teaching children to fish; he is a wonderful father and great husband. That is the Mariano that many people know, we feel hurt and disgusted by all this, he is not proud of this, his family isn't either-but if you compare the good with the bad -the good will win.

It's too bad you're tired of reading about all the horrible things in Jersey City. If you are don't read them and pretend all is well in the kingdom. There are people who hold their elected officials accountable for what they do. Each one of us has the ability for good and evil. We make choices in life. When a person is elected to office and they take an oath to protect the people they serve it has to account for something. The nonsense of challenging anyones' roots in Jersey City is contemptuous. I'd be as offended by Vega's behavior if I just came here yesterday or was born here. No doubt he's done some good in his life but he sold his office and the publics' trust for a bag of shells. For that he has to go.

Saw Healy give his statement today and he was visibly upset. He can feel the walls closing in on him as he ponders the extent of his complicity in this corruption case. He sat with the CW twice in the luncheonette along with Beldini, his campaign treasurer. They were there to talk money & nothing else. The transcript of the Beldini, Cheatem & Shaw matter states Healy was at the luncheonette against advice of his City Hall staff who preferred him to do business in his office. The man is a wreck wondering when the Feds will be coming to get him.

At the demonstration this morning did anyone catch Phillip Flood, son of Councilperson Willie Flood, angrily slam down a flier handed to him outside City Hall? After doing so, mouthing expletives, he went across the street and got behind the wheel of a Mercedes, with dark tinted windows, mommiepoos, no doubt, and took off like a bat outta hell. They're all time bombs waiting to go off.

What do you think his campaign treasurer, Beldini, was thinking when she heard that? "Why that sunnabitch!" Go gettim Leona, he just threw you under da big blue bus.

Mariano Vega Flashback: Several years ago a group of county workers filed a complaint with the Hudson County Prosecutor alleging Vega had them brought to his Mercer Street home to do a paint job and repairs on county time. It was in the local paper and the Prosecutor dropped the case. Should be revisited.

With him is the key to the entire development process in JC from Planning to the Boards to the Building Department on & on. This guy will be the one to fall down on Healy. Mama I wanna sing!

Spinello states that the JCPA has a viable anti-harrassment policy in place yet the victim is stating she was abused between mid 2006 & 2008. So what was happening for a year and a half? Spinello just got the job but the former capatain of the East District, Mark Russ, ran the JCPA during that time. Was he advised of this? What did he do about it?

I like the concept of a pedestrian bridge across Grand. With the school, hospital, Liberty Harbor etc. it makes a ton of sense. Fabricate off-site and on a weekend it goes up. People safe above the highway below.

The traffic light at Barrow & Grand was installed by the developer of Liberty Harbor. It is his responsibility to activate it only after he gets the approval from the State. The trick will be to sync the new lights with those north and south to avoid congestion. Good night and good luck.

Just a legal way to separate you from your change. You were a crime victim and the money confiscated from drug dealers and other baddies should cover these costs. The cops use such money to buy equipment etc, and use vehicles taken for undercover work. It should'nt cost us a dime.

Re: The NJPP Report on Tax Abatements in JC

Substituting "Blight" for an "Area in Need of Re-Development" is simply an exercise in semantics. If the goal of removing blight is to improve an area how has that benefitted Jersey City? The waterfront area which comprises 90% of what was declared as blighted is a measure then Jersey City has failed miserably. At today's hearing several trade union members expressed support of the abatement process but declared moving out of Jersey City was their goal once they obtained full union status. Is that because Jersey City's "Quality of Life" has diminished as a result of the improvement they have wrought? More traffic, loss of schools, less policing, higher density...those who live here know the deal. For those of us who live here day to day and suffer the fools who screw us royally it is time to cut the entrenched moronic umbilical cord loose.

What may be at the end of the day is that she will be found by the court to be as pure as new fallen snow having just made the minimal requirements to run, win & be seated. The bottom line for a lot of people who care about good government is that she is a carpetbagger with no permanent ties here and has nary a clue to the fiscal crisis this city is facing. She will be a yes vote for the Healy crowd forever and ever not listening or caring for the plight of the besieged taxpayers and citizens of Jersey City.

On April 1st Lopez received a non-driver's ID, two months after the campaign began and 21/2 months before her NJ Driver's License. MMMM-MMM_MM!!

Lopez got New Jersey license last month
By Matt Friedman, PolitickerNJ.com Reporter
Jersey City Councilwoman Nidia R. Lopez got her license to drive in New Jersey last month.
New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission spokesman Mike Horan said that Lopez was issued a digital driver?s license on June 15. Two and a half months earlier, on April 1, the state issued her a non-driver ID. That was two months after she officially kicked off her campaign.
But Lopez was registered to drive in Florida until just last week, when the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles got word from the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission that Lopez got her license here. The Florida agency was informed on June 30 ? the same day that news broke of former council candidate Jimmy King?s complaint that seeks to invalidate Lopez?s election based on her residency.
The license timing is relevant because former Ward C council candidate Jimmy King is challenging the validity of Lopez?s May election in court, arguing that Lopez has claimed her Florida house as her primary residence for tax purposes and that she had a Florida driver license.
Lopez, 59, does have a driver history in New Jersey that goes back to 1977, Horan said. Her Florida driving record is clean, save for one recorded expired tags violation.
Horan said that state law gives drivers who move here from out-of-state 60 days to change their addresses with the Motor Vehicle Commission. To comply with that law, she would have had to move here after March 1.
Council candidates are required to reside in their wards for at least one year prior to the election, which occurred on May 12.
Lopez does not have a car registered in New Jersey. It is not possible to tell whether she has or had a car registered in Florida, since that information is protected by the state?s Driver Privacy Protection Act.
?We?re going to address all those issues in our pleading, and it will be filed shortly,? said Lopez attorney Bill Northgrave.
No court date has been set to hear King?s complaint. Both sides are scheduled to have a conference with Hudson County Superior Court Judge Maurice Gallipoli on either Thursday or Friday next week.
?I?m anxiously looking forward to the forms to see what they say,? said King attorney Alex Booth.
