Interesting, what is the terminal/destination of that freight train?

Well what I've seen by driving around Hudson County over the years is those Conrail trains pick up freight in Newark Bay from those huge container ships that come in. Then the freight trains head north, I've seen them deposit those containers off the Turnpike near the Vince Lombardi rest stop. They are then picked up by 18 wheelers, but I can't imagine Conrail doing such a short journey?

Was something up with PATH today? Maybe I just had bad luck with trains, but on my way in around 9:30 this morning, the platform was packed (and so was the train that came) and on my way home tonight around 7:30, the 33rd street platform was mobbed. When a train arrived, it was instantly crowded.

Bad luck, or is PATH cutting back on service for 2011?

From PATH twitter:

On Tuesday 4th January 2011, @PATHTweet said:

This morning's service problems explained: This morning we had a train stall en-route to 33rd Street between Grove Street and Newport Station. Had to couple another train to move the disabled train. Incident occurred approximately 7:45am-8:15am. Passengers for 33rd Street at JSQ, GRV and Newport were sent to WTC. 33rd Street service restored from JSQ with extensive delays for the remainder of the peak.

Do you guys honestly believe that that image was created and officially put up on a TSA computer screen? Any Idiot would realize the shock value of that.....I mean it's just too easy. Where did that clear "screen shot" on the separate link come from anyway? This is a total wind up.

If it wasn't photoshopped then some idiot planned the whole prank ...the TSA would never officially sanction that.

Some of these staunch no kill advocates make me laugh. I had a friend who worked at North Shore and she was a big supporter of no kill. What I found a bit funny was how at lunch she had no problems going to a McDonalds and ordering a big Mac. I found that a bit odd, I mean factory farmed animals were ok? But I guess pets were a no no.

I don't know is it me or does the whole thing seem a bit hypocritical sometimes?

Maybe because there are so many abandoned Pitbulls, and so many people with phobias like your's, LHS has to work extra hard to find homes for all of those dogs.

I tend to agree with this. Recently I've been looking to adopt two cats/kittens and in visiting some of the shelters in the area I noticed the inordinate amount of Pitbulls in these places. I would say that 75% of the dogs in them were Pitbulls......very sad.

I also used Carsdirect when I bought my Jetta back in 2002., best experience ever...no haggling. I received a great price for the car and the color/trim/engine/options I wanted. Only thing was I had to go to Pompton Plains to get the vehicle but other then that I'd go through Carsdirect again in a heartbeat.

Even better a local news station interviewed a young guy that witnessed the accident. He is the one who called 911. He said the car came down the street and attempted to park. The driver while parking hit a car behind her with such force that it dented it and pushed it onto the bumper of the car behind it. The witness said he feels the driver then panicked and stepped on the gas trying to flee the scene. Guess she fled the wrong way.

This sounds a lot more plausible. I mean why would her daughter suddenly "put the car into drive"?

Thanks, I go to Snug Harbor a lot so this is good information to have when hunger kicks in! I must try that royal crown bakery. I also remember a really good and popular pizza restaurant near Morningstar Road area but can't remember what it was called...

I have to disagree with that comment because it doesn?t work like that. I?ve been a vegetarian for a very long time and it started when I was a young child who was surprised and upset when I found out where my hamburger came from. From then on I was an extremely picky eater especially when it came to meat. My mom would make dinner and 90% of the time I would spit out the meat/fish into a napkin when she wasn?t looking. Then proceed to the toilet to either flush it down or shove it in the trash (I?m surprised our toilet never got clogged). I never heard the term ?vegetarian? until my late teens and it took me until college to figure myself out. I had no issue with others eating meat/fish, but I just couldn?t do it?it just bothered me (and still does).

It goes both ways with the ?holier then thou? attitude, I?ve gotten numerous comments about my diet and mostly it comes from ignorant people who ask ?well what the hell do you actually eat? or ?foodies? who just laugh at me. I actually remember going to lunch with a client who said ?you pick the lunch place because I know how picky you are?. Then when I suggested this great Ethiopian place in the village he said ?errrr, I don?t eat that? ? then I suggested Thai food, he said the same thing ?errrr, I don?t eat that?. Basically if it wasn?t a hamburger, Italian or Chinese place he wasn?t going to be happy, suffice to say, he no longer describes me as ?picky?.

And +1 goes to Frank_M for his post.

I have to also chime in with compliments, this place is great. So far I've been there twice for their Grab n' go dinners and it was just absolutely delicious. Obviously a lot of love and passion goes into their dinners & baked goods. I'll probably be back on Friday for their yummy veggie lasagna again....

Croft, you don't service downtown do you (hamilton Park -cat sitting visits)? I'm just looking for some options as I'm going away for two+ weeks overseas end of August and a friend is coming to feed my older cat once a day but not sure at this point if she can do the full 17 days. So just want to have a backup plan....

I had a similar very good experience with these guys. I took my bike out on Sunday for the first time since last summer only to realize all the air in the tires were gone. I walked the bike over to the bike shop hoping I could buy a tire pump there. Instead they pumped up my tires free of charge! I hope they do well as they seemed pretty busy in there.

I'm thinking about selling my recently purchased Schwinn hybrid for a decent road bike and if I do I'll definitely go to them for it.

I think socio-economics does have a factor in this. Seems to me at least in the NYC metro area most crime rates are higher in poor communities for whatever the reason. I would guess the crime rate in East NY is somewhat different then that in Park Slope.

No Water on 8th Street/Hamilton Park

Is safe to assume in putting out that flaming police car this afternoon on Coles, somehow they caused damage to our decrepit water mains? I've been out of water for close to two hours now. I went into the deli on 8th/Coles to get water and the guy behind the counter said that he was told we might be out until the morning (although he has water as he's on a different water main). Great news.
