Thank you for posting that link, I was going to do it but I couldn't remember how I got to it, forgot it was called compstat. I ALWAYS go for the corner spot first, that goes without saying. I reached out to a neighbor that has a driveway and he told me I am more than welcome to park in front of his driveway just so long as I get up early so his wife can get out, as he understands my dilemma, wouldn't take any money from me after I offered either. See, that's what I'm talkin' about - people helping people, cool. I work for a printing company and I was trying to come up with something to post on tele-poles or something clever to slip under windshield wipers to let punks know that they aren't welcome in our hood and they are being watched, or maybe take a shot at listing the contents that are or aren't in the vehicle to help criminals be a bit more selective on which cars to break into, lol. Does anyone have a vehicle immobilizer device on thier car? I have one, so stealing the car itself is very difficult and I was thinking, "why not just leave the car unlocked....there isn't anything in there anyhow?" anyone ever do that?

Wow, thats really nice of your neighbor. Although I myself have not been a victim of a break-in (knock on wood), my boyfriend had his spare tire stolen off of his Honda CRV, which was a big pain in the a$#. Good luck and hopefully they leave your car alone, even if it's for a little while.

Man stabbed in Jersey City

Monday, December 15, 2008

A 19-year-old Passaic man was stabbed in the buttocks Saturday night in Jersey City, police reports said.

The victim told police he was at Mallory and Duncan avenues at 9:45 p.m., when two men approached him.

After asking him where he was from, they stabbed him and ran away, reports said.

He was treated at Jersey City Medical Center, reports said.

CHARLES HACK

They didn't rob him? They just stabbed him? In the fanny?

Sounds crazy to me.

Jennymayla you made me laugh with calling it a fanny. I haven't heard it called that in years. Thanks for making me laugh.

I spent some time on the LSC website soon after this thread started because I wanted to check on the free admission policy for school students: I remember getting a pass some years ago from my daughter's school, but I only remember going for free that one time.
Well, it turns out that each child in the public schools in JC has been able to go to the museum an unlimited number of times for free. I'll paste the quote from the website here:

Abbott Family Pass

All students who attend public schools in New Jersey?s 31 Abbott school districts are eligible for a free Family Pass.

The Family Pass provides each student, and up to three guests (who must include one adult), unlimited free visits to Liberty Science Center. The Family Pass is also good for free parking and discounted theater tickets.

Family Passes are mailed to each school in October and are valid through June 2009.

For more information or to request a Family Pass, please contact:

Lauren Rose, 201.253.1259, lrose@lsc.org
Angeline Ebreo, 201.253.1492, aebreo@lsc.org

This has to have been the best kept secret in the city.
Has anyone else with kids in the system known about this?

And since the State is giving control of the district back to the school board, does that mean that we are no longer an Abbott district.?

They do this in NYC as well for the children in low-income areas and employees in those school districts. The pass is usually for many different places. I know in NYC it was for all museums and zoos.
Jersey City will still be an abbott district because of the income level.

The oatmeal cookies were so good, and we stopped there late around 7:45pm. We had some hot apple cider as well which was amazing. Also, Celeste is very nice and she is offering baking classes for those interested. I wish her all the best and I will definitely be stopping by on a weekly basis.

This poor kid is going to traumatized for life over this man's stupidity. Put him in jail for life and the mother should also be punished for caring more about her boyfriend then the welfare of her child.

Hopefully they were scared and they learned their lesson. Thats one of the problems with our kids these days, there are no consequences. They are no longer afraid of the principal (especially after 5th grade) and their parents are usually no where to be found. What can you do? I think you did the right thing.

This guy is worth $200k+/yr? Lets start but cutting the salaries of the superintendents.

There is a big misuse of funds in Abbott districts and the administrators are the ones at fault. They use abbott money for other things besides materials for the classrooms. You could walk into a school and see the teacher using homemade materials or things he/she bought themselves, but then look into an administration building and you will see new everything including flat screen television sets and brand new office furniture. It's really sad. If they start cutting abbott districts funds, the teachers and children are the ones who will suffer, then good teachers will leave these districts as well.

I had mentioned an experience I had on another thread about the kids selling candy. I witnessed the kids selling candy for their basketball jerseys get off the train in Washington Heights, meet up with an older guy and start counting the money together. The man put some money in his pockets, and gave some to the kids. They then parted ways. Now I was able to witness all this because they did it in front of the school in which I was teaching at the time. It really is a scam and real sad that people use children to make money like that. If the kids themselves were out to make a buck (although the cheerleaders in traffic is extremely dangerous) I feel would show initiative. However the adults using children to make money, is inexcusable.

just a quick update, sorry to bore everyone w/ this incident, but I still can't believe how things aren't done correctly... so, i pick up a copy of my police report this week and notice that there weren't any tickets issued on the report... i call of the PD, get transferred around to different apartments in order to confirm that no tickets were issued... it's stated clearly on the police report that the 2nd driver (the driver that hit my car) fled the scene of the accident... you would think that she would be charged with a hit and run or leaving the scene of an accident, since it is clearly written on the report... but no, i had to go to JC Municipal court on Summit in order to file a complaint... you would figure the officer would've issued the report...

the lady i spoke to at the court was even surprised that the officer didn't issue a ticket...

I am so sorry that this is happening to you. The system sucks and now you (not the woman who hit you) has to do all the running around and calling. She has not been inconvienced at all, as well as the PD. Good luck with everything I hope they give her a hefty fine.

I agree with the people who feel that it's not so bad. I never feel that I'm being "harassed." They say, "Excuse me, can I ask you a question?" And I say, "No thanks," and continue on my way, and that's the extent of it. I walk fast, so there's not much chance for a follow-up.

They really are just trying to make a living, and I'm sure they dont' make a whole lot of money. I used to work in a mall (though not at a kiosk) for $7.50 an hour. We had to greet every person who came in and wait two minutes and then ask if they needed help. I followed the rules because if you didn't and the wrong person walked in (a secret shopper), it could cost you your raise on the next go-around. I appreciated the people who were polite and knew I was just doing my job, trying to get by.

Oh, and if you think it's a horrid experience to be stopped every day on your way to the PATH, trying putting yourself in their shoes and having to go through the same song and dance with every person who walks by. Who knows, maybe they work on commission.

It's true, whenever they bother me and I say no thanks they leave me alone. I cannot imagine that working at a kiosk in the mall is fun (maybe it is I don't know) and having to greet people constantly sucks. Based on other responses here I am sure that the funny things said to them have actually made them laugh. Either say no thanks or think of something witty to say to make them smile.
