More manipulation and fuzzy math.

Have you seen their commercial?

They make it seem like they're running against Tea Party candidates and that they will make "millionaires pay their fair share of taxes." They are attempting to nationalize a local election in which most other candidates are running against their close relationship with corrupt handlers.

The machine will transport their minions and "know-nothings" to the polls and win. So Sad.

He had a stolen GPS which was soon returned to the contractor. Tonight the perp sits in jail. I was shocked at the JCPD response. There must have been 8 cars that responded. They were phenomenal and very grateful.

Good job. Keep this A$$hole off the street for a few days at least.

Off the beaten path in the Ironbound area. Authentic food. Not the greatest looking place, but excellent prices, great paella, and the waiter, Nelson, is amazing. He memorizes everyone's order and has never faltered in the dozen or so times that I've been there.

A short taxi ride from the PATH.

Good place, always seems to be packed too. It's by the Pathmark right?

Yes, a half block from the Pathmark. They expanded a bit, but it's still crowded. Used to be like eating in someone's kitchen at one time.

Mr. Boggiano is the real deal. I grew up in the Hilltop area and residents could rely on Mr. Boggiano to bring quality of life issues to the attention of the police hierarchy and city hall. Long before the good government movement began to gain some traction with the election of Fulop and the grassroots efforts of Dan Levin, Mr. Boggiano was fighting the good fight.

He was a good cop and is the "go to" person in the Hilltop area. Semper Fidelis.

Re: Historic photo question

I saw this photo years ago and have been trying to figure it out.

At First I thought that it looked like Railroad Avenue which is now Christopher Columbus Drive. However, if you look at the top right of the photo, you see the back of a church that looks a lot like the church on Pavonia Avenue between Coles and Monmouth. This photo seems to have been taken from the roof of the warehouse that house Moishe's Moving and Storage.

The photo is taken from the height of that warehouse. Also, the back of the structures to the left of the church are very much like the homes along Pavonia to Coles.

My best guess is Ninth Street. Out of the photo is Hamilton Park which should be a few blocks left. Also, had the photo captured the street in front of the Church, we may have seen the old Wells Fargo facility and the original Ferris High School which is now MacNair.

Anyone else? Pretty interesting.

I am new to the Jersey City Heights area, and just bought a multi-family house.

I was wondering if anyone had recommendations or thoughts on Security Systems for their home. I see various signs about ADT, etc around the neighborhood.

Any advise, thoughts, recommendation, non-recommendation, or price would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Welcome. I had Brinks which is now Broadview and was very happy with this hardwired system. Never malfunctioned and never had a nuisance alarm.

Interesting article from a consumer review website: http://www.topconsumerreviews.com/home-security/

One side is a reasonably large bar and the other is a sit down restaurant with two levels... Great decor.

I had the Moroccan Burger (goat cheese). It was excellent. They also have Franziskaner Weissbier on tap which is pretty cool.

It's just opened and they're ironing out the kinks that are common with new restaurants. Hardly a soft opening because the place was crowded during a rainstorm outside. Cool vibe. 30 - 50 crowd at the bar that night. There was no Z100 music playing the night that I was there.

Agree, Summit Auto is one of the best around.

Recently, I needed an emergency repair and went to Chariot Auto on 71 Coles Street between 4th and 5th Streets. It's just a block from my home.

Great price to replaced radiator, thermostat, and hoses. It was same day service, and Ricky, the owner, stayed an extra hour to finish the job. The job was a bit more complicated for my car, but the total was just under 400 dollars.

It's not too much of a schlep from Paulus Hook.

After the blizzard in December, Hardhat guy cleared all of the ice from the corner sewers at 4th and Jersey. He seems to want to be useful.

I had a reasonably normal conversation with him near a construction site in Paulus Hook. He told me (declared loudly) that the ground is contaminated and they should not be building new structures until 10 feet of soil is removed and carted away; he may be on to something.

He can be pretty scary to people unfamiliar with his routine. Seriously, I hope that someday he is prescribed the correct meds and gets some counselling.

* The foot bridge between the two Waldo Avenues in the Island section.

* The defensive wall on the east side of the hilltop (Dickinson HS) built to defend old Jersey City. Much of the wall has been demolished in recent years but there are still remnants of steps and debris from the old wall.

* A. Harry Moore house on Pine Street. Being restored. Charming working class 1880's wood frame home.

* "The garages" on Waldo Avenue and Henry Street. Topside of the garages demolished to build homes in 1980. Basement and sub basement used as foundation. Originally used to store military equipment from WWI and II. 50 foot foundation wall can be seen from Harsimus Cemetary near the old crypts.

Agreed.

There should be a provision somewhere that forces vacant lots over a half acre to be temporarily turned into open green space until construction begins.

Same thing at 111 First Street.

The owner/developer should be responsible for the costs to maintain the space. Watch how quickly construction starts.

Louie's Candy Store on Newark was popular with DHS students... candy, comic books, and loose cigarettes for a dime. It was on Newark and Palisade across from the school and Hudson Gardens. High Pockets (later the Bus Stop) was the bar on the corner of Chestnut and Newark Avenues.

That is Mars Liquors. It's still there under different owners for the last 20 years. The old Mars was a great deli. The old High Pockets (later Bus Stop) Bar is a Spanish restaurant on Newark and Chestnut. The Dominican Bodega on the east corner of Newark and Chestnut was a Salvation Army Store.

Rands was located on Newark Avenue across the street from DHS, so it must have been Brummers. The Rands property was a check cashing place (closed now) and the parking lot is currently rented for long term parking.

Rands was the best ice cream that I had ever had. During the Summer even before they closed, the line for ice cream was always long.

You get the beach, you get the free benches, charcoal grills. You get some amazing nature trails. And you get to avoid the crowded shore beaches.

Great recommendations.

Just remember that no booze is allowed in most if not all of these state parks. Park Rangers generally look the other way if you have beer in foam cover sleeve. Row boating in Lake Waywayanda is fun.

Woolworth was near the old Hudson Tubes (PATH) transportation Hub before the new complex was completed in 1976. Woolworth was across from the Tube Bar and pizzeria.

Across the street from the State Theater was Liss Pharmacy which was as large as a department store complete with a lunch counter. Next to the Lowes Theater was J.M. Fields which is now the C.H. Martin.

What brings these kind of people to this area? Is it St. Lucy's Shelter over at 619 Grove Street by the Holland Tunnel?

Until a few years ago -- many were living on the corner at Grove and Newark in front of that old employment center -- but now they seem to have been pushed west on Newark into the Palace Drugs area.

I see them on most mornings driving to work. Several homeless people including Paco and his girlfriend sleep on the loading dock on First Street between Provost and Warren and across the from the J. Leo Cooke Warehouse condos.

Paco was kicked out of his home years ago. He used to be sober and employed not long ago when he lived with his mom. He is cordial and friendly when sober and thankful if you give him a cup of coffee or a few cigs. I have never seen him panhandling, and he never asked me for anything. He just says, "hello."

I hope that I am wrong, but these two seem beyond any meaningful help.
