I agree, on important things. This is not that.

So truth is not important?

Stop trying to twist it, just because you deem something important doesn't make it that.

"The 485 Marin rents are 19 to 33 percent higher than the "good faith estimate" of rents submitted to the council in 2015 when the project's 20-year tax break was approved. Then, the rents were estimated to range from $990 and $1,643.

Spokeswomen for the city and for KRE Group declined to comment on the change."

what makes this a particularly renter sentiment? I think the Prato kerfuffle was divided among those who lived adjacent to them and those who did not.

a LOT has been happening at the JC Falcon nest this week!

the other three eggs never hatched, and the lone hatchling was doing poorly.

meanwhile, over at the Goethals Bridge, demolition work uncovered a nest full of baby falcons.

the decision was made to rehome those falcons in Jersey City, and remove the lone puny hatchling for care.

if you do agree to let your neighbor put it in (and/or if you put one in yourself), make sure the exhaust points outward, onto the street or back yard.

there's a big A/C compressor on my roof, and the blast of heated exhaust it creates makes half of the roof uninhabitable. I'm a renter, as is the business who installed the A/C. I really wish the landlord had thought of this when giving the go-ahead.

Do you understand expression "way too literal"?

Indeed, this is Yvonne and the NA's real legacy. They drove out local businesses that served many to preserve parking for few wealthy homeowners in the area. The sad thing is, now that those spaces have been turned to condos, we can never have that level of local retail in the residential neighborhoods again.

You can see that they haven't changed at all. Look at all the HCNA members that came here to gloat when they successfully forced Prato out of their space. We'll never have the version of Jersey City El and I feel most people want as long as these corrupt groups are allowed to have unchecked influence.

except....Prato is still in their space, happily doing business.

Except...they very clearly state on their website that they will be closing that location and moving to 374 4th st in the village. Presumably the space will transform into a real estate office, nail salon or daycare.

Try again.

Prato had a few issues when it opened, which are discussed in a thread here. They tried to use a backyard for seating, and tried to operate as a restaurant, both zoning violations; a neighbor complained, and Prato sorted things out. HCNA was not involved.

Someone (I don't recall if it was Prato or the owner or both) tried to rezone from cafe to restaurant, which would allow alcohol and later hours, a bad fit for a quiet residential neighborhood. The change was denied, but Prato did get indoor seating.

That was 2 years ago. No problems and (from what I can tell) good business since then. HCNA's Facebook page has no discussions at all of Prato since then.

No public parking spaces anywhere near there were removed since Prato opened.

The "gloating" is in your imagination. There was one poster (squeeg) who blamed the landlord for the conflicts, not Prato, and was glad the community (not the Association) blocked the restaurant rezoning.

It's not clear why they are moving. Their site doesn't even say "moving," just that they are opening a new space on 4th, so who knows? Whatever the reason, they certainly weren't driven out by the HCNA.

a Prato on 4th street will be a welcome addition to that neighborhood, which has been one dining establishment short since Madame Claude relocated.

a business leaving isn't always a cause for alarm. if Prato is vacating Erie Street, they leave behind a wonderful space for a new cafe, while the village gains a great new place.

Lillian Bustle, the burlesque performer whose act was deemed too obscene by Jersey City's legal eagles, is planning a new show at Newark Avenue venue FM Wednesday night after the city changed its mind and gave her its go-ahead.

Bustle, 39, called the news "a big relief" and said she hopes this episode encourages city officials to "fully research all the factors on their plate" in the future.

I know someone who stopped going to Monteleone Bakery due to this problem. This person orders their cakes there going back decades.

will they actually plant it this time, though? the renderings for the original plaza promised a lot more greenery than what was delivered. I love our little slice of walkability, but it isn't nearly what it could be, in terms of aesthetics.

such an awful idea. study after study shows that more roads = more cars on the road. this bridge will ease traffic for a short time, before commuters go, "oh hey, a new way to drive!" and get back into their cars. downtown will be a clusterf*ck, and there's no putting that genie back into the bottle.

My gang has had consistently great care with Dr. Buchholtz at JC Animal Hospital on Westside.

Even though I live a block away from Downtown Vet, I had one too many unpleasant experiences with Dr. Tudor to even consider going back. It's worth the time and the expense (of a Lyft or Zipcar) to haul my crew all the way over to Westside.

I've got no dog in this fight, as I'm a renter. but I do feel for my long-time neighbors who planned on retiring here, and will now probably have to sell. good for them for getting squillions on a home they bought for very little, decades ago. but it's a big bummer to have to uproot yourself in your golden years, just because you are now sitting on a hot property.

likewise, if my landlord has to double my rent, he'll lose a known tenant who's been trouble-free for years. instead he'll have to deal with someone new, who might make extra demands in line with market-rate rent, yet he'll have no extra $$ in the bank in exchange for that headache.

yes, of course he can sell. but he too was planning on retiring here, so please refer to paragraph one of my post.

A couple of thoughts:
- the hypothetical owner of your post would have many more options than just ?will have to sell?. Among them: reverse mortgage, HE loan, HE LOC, etc.

- no renter would see his rent double because his landlord's taxes have doubled. That?s sheer misunderstanding of the numbers involved. Take the extreme example of a homeowner going from 20K to 40K. If that landlord had a single tenant, and he wanted to pass on the entirety of the tax increase onto the tenant, that means charging an additional $1,666/month. That?s only a doubling if the tenant is only paying 1,666/mo today, which seems unlikely for that kind of property. That would be an easy one to fight in housing court.

$1666/month would not double my rent, it's true. but can you name anyone in your social circle who could handle that kind of increase, even if it's only 50%?
