Direct 33rd-Journal Sq service on weekends (bypassing Hoboken)

There was some service trouble yesterday Sunday, September 14th on the Journal Sq-33rd St line. Although I wouldn't call it trouble so much because the PATH service went direct to/from Manhattan, bypassing Hoboken. It was a pleasure to not have to stop over in Hoboken while going to my destination in Manhattan and also coming home. This is the way weekend service should be for us in Jersey City. The reason may have been because of some equipment trouble. But for whatever the reason, it was great to have normal direct service on the weekend. My travel time was cut down tremendously by not having to stop off in Hoboken. It was great.

If you experienced this yesterday and liked it, then I urge you to write to the PATH authority and tell them you want normal direct service on the weekends and you're sick of having to stop over in Hoboken. Send the PATH your feedback here: http://www.panynj.gov/feedback.php

If anyone has ever tried to file a complaint or give feedback to the NJ PATH system, you know how difficult it is to even locate the right place to file your complaint. For a long time I believed there was no way to even contact the PATH authorities other than for emergencies or paranoid folks reporting suspicious persons. Well I actually finally found the link after searching and searching on the Path website. Here is the link: panynj.gov/feedback

I recently wrote in a complaint regarding the sardine-like crowded trains during rush hours and the horrendous late night and weekend schedule. I was actually amazed to receive a well rounded response, and not just some canned message.

I urge everyone if you have ever wanted to give the PATH feedback, do so. The PATH system will never improve if people don't voice their concerns.

And while you're at it, everyone complain about those goddam 5 minute long stupid announcements over the PA system. If PATH would put in 1% of effort to improving the system as they did to make that irritating automated loud speaker announcement about how we shouldn't carry bags and packages, then we'd have a perfect smooth running train system. In our dreams.

I wrote a complaint about how hazardous it was to cross Marin Blvd, hmm probably about 5 months ago. I just received this response from Jersey City Online Help Center <action@jcnj.org>. See folks it does help to complain to the City about certain things. 9.5.08 In the recent past speed limit signs and pedestrian warning and crossing signs have been installed. Also be advised, the Department of Transportation has authorized the installation of a traffic signal at Marin Blvd & 9th St. The traffic signal has been funded in the FY2009 package and construction is scheduled to commence in Spring 2009. On 4/7/2008 3:22:40 PM, Jersey City Online Help Center sent: The Investigator for this area will survey the location to determine what signs and/or pavement markings are needed to safeguard the pedestrians.

I didn't see the actual accident but I must have just arrived right after. THere were about 6 JC police officers. Two cars were pulled over. It was hard to tell what had happened. I assumed it was a vehicle accident. WHen I passed the police on the sidewalk I looked down and saw blood droplets all over the sidewalk, in front of the Mall side. I got nervous thinking what could have happened after that.

This has to be a huge wakeup call about this goddam death trap waiting to happen. Or does the JC city council and PD actually need someone to die first before anything is done about this traffic nightmare.

I hope the crossing guard is OK and I hope she sues the driver who hit her. I thank her every time I see her out there.

Frankly I'd love to see a bridge built to cross over the roadway, but don't stop there. I'd like that bridge to go all the way over the Mall and terminate on the other side near the Path entrance. That way I wont have to cross that death trap of a road and walk through that wretched Mall ever again.
