I'm curious as to where in the timeline the spitting "toward" the cops occurred because the story neglected to clarify that detail. I'm guessing it was some time between the chase and the confirmation that the guy didn't actually have a weapon.

I know what happens when you assume, but hey, there was a lot of that going on for this incident.

My car splits its time between The Heights and Manhattan where my girlfriend lives. So far this summer, it's been hit three times while parked, all in Manhattan. The worst has been my drivers side view mirror getting smashed off, so it hasn't been too serious yet.

I get really angry every time it happens, especially when I think about how many cowards are driving around out there, and how the incredibly high insurance I pay can do nothing for me. It's a real paralyzing frustration and I sympathize with everyone here in similar situations.

I bought it used at a discount from a dealer because it already had a lot of scratches on the sides in the first place...makes me wonder if it's really just a giant damage magnet.

The traffic signal activated landmines haven't been functioning lately either.

You are in fact making an illegal turn every morning, although admittedly one of the signs today said only "Turns" since the "no" was burned out.

Oh, just as an update...

Later that day I went in person to the County Clerk's to pick up my absentee ballot. I gave them my driver's license and they diddled around with a computer, then sent me on my merry way.

Got out to the car and noticed someone else's name and address on the ballot, so I had to go back and fill out YET ANOTHER application.

It's now election day and I just drove my ballot down to the polls and handed it in to the Board of Elections. What are the odds that my ballot is now going through the paper shredder?

New Jersey may be encouraging people to vote by mail, but the Jersey City Post Office is certainly doing a good job discouraging it.

Like I said in my earlier reply, I applied for an absentee ballot by mail (sent out with from where I work in Morris County) several weeks ago, but still had not received my actual ballot. Knowing that I would be out of state on election day, I would not be able to vote in person at my regular polling place.

I realized today that I should stop being patient, so I called up the Board of Elections office to see what the story was. They said I definitely should have received something by now. I was then shuffled between the County Clerk and the Superintendent of Elections a couple times before they deemed it all right to send me another absentee ballot.

While it's not very convenient for me to take care of this in person (not to mention it completely goes against the whole principle of ABSENTEE VOTING), I am very appreciative that the Board of Elections is open until 7 pm. I certainly will not be trusting the Jersey City Post Office with my voting privileges, much like I don't trust them with delivering my packages or certified letters from my landlord informing me of a rent increase, processing my passport, getting Netflix DVDs to me in one piece, or the simple task of making sure the name on envelopes goes in the little black box with the same name on top of it every day.

Yeah, I'll be doing this one myself.

It would be awesome if the absentee ballot actually shows up before election day since I really won't be in town. I submitted my application over three weeks ago and still haven't received anything.

What's been the turnover time for people voting this way?

Less than 22% of this thread actually has any relevance to the topic at hand, and I'm reporting several of you douchebags to the Office of Poster/Reader Relations.

Anyway, there was a call for anecdotal evidence of successful rent increase reversals here somewhere around page 2 that I'd like to ask for again. I see the 10% number thrown around a lot, but does anyone actually have anything to back that up?

My rent just got increased about 15% with no obvious improvements to the building that I'm aware of (and landlord is doing a good job dodging all of my calls requesting an explanation). I spoke to Henry Perez down at the Office of Landlord/Tenant Relations and he said judges have ruled in favor of tenants for even less than that. Surely, someone here has to have gone through this process.

And don't get all butthurt because I called you a douchebag, douchebag.

We cancelled our Comcast TV services and returned our digital and HD boxes about a year ago to save money and to break our TV dependence. About a month later, we discovered that they seemed to forget to shut off our basic service. And now I have no problem watching free programming as revenge for all the bullshit they pulled in the past.
