What an animal! She deserves to do some serious time for this. It just amazes their are people out there who conduct themselves like this.

I hope the young woman will be ok. I hope she doesn't have a brain injury. It may not be apparent for a while.

I've never understood why cable companies were never considered a "technical" monopoly. You move into a certain area and you don't have a choice in cable companies. Yes, I know we have a choice with dish TV, but what if you don't want the dish?

The gov't broke up Ma Bell and made the phone industry competitive. Maybe this would be a kick in the ass for Comcast to give a shite.

Went to Union City for ceviche yesterday. The name of the restaurant we go to is Delicias Peruanas Restaurant. It's on 43rd between Bergenline and New York Ave.

http://deliciasperuanasrestaurant.net/default.aspx

I highly recommend the parihuela (seafood soup) and the ceviche camarones. My friend orderd the pollo a la plancha (chicken peruvian style) that was delicious.

We were at Lincoln Park today flying hubby's remote controlled helicopter.

It's a beautiful park. I wish Hamilton Park was open but it made us get out of our hood and visit another part of town.

Went back to Carmines - for awhile. I'd order, hang up the phone and "ding-dong", the doorbell would sound with delivery of those pies. Not really sure how they managed it though I suspect that they've outfitted the glove compartments of the delivery fleet with pizza ovens and simply troll around the neighborhood, awaiting an order. They are THAT fast.

Last Saturday we ordered pizza from Carmine's. It was during that horrendous rain storm. We figured it would take a while. Nope. Thirty minutes later we were enjoying a piping hot pizza.

Odd occurence Thursday night/Hamilton Park
#72
Home away from home
Home away from home

I work second shift and usually come home around 11:30pm. I stay aware of my surroundings and I try to park as close to my apt as I can but it\'\'s not always easy.

I live on 8th and West Hamilton. I parked my car on 9th street. As I was walking on West Hamilton I noticed a tall black kid (late teens, early 20s) across the street with a knit hat standing by the Pavonia entrance of the park and smoking. It seemed odd to me since most people I see at this time are walking their dogs, taking out their garbage, or generally in transit to/from somewhere. He was just standing there and smoking.

I was on West Hamilton between 8th and Pavonia. I turned around and saw that he was about 15 feet behind me. Then I saw people walking on 8th Street. When I turned around again he was gone. I just hurried into my building.

I don\'t want to be an alarmist. It could have been nothing but it just struck me as odd that he was just standing there one minute and the next minute he had crossed the street and was following me. Then he disappeared when other people appeared.

Divorce decree for marriage license
#77

Does anyone know if the divorce decree while applying for a marriage license has to be CERTIFIED? We're going to city hall on Monday. We have all the proper paperwork but it's not clear if I can bring a copy of my divorce decree or if it has to be certified. Of course, the city clerk was closed today. The Jersey City website and the state of NJ website just says to bring a divorce decree; it doesn't say if it has to be certified or not.

Does anyone who's been divorced and gotten re-married in JC know the answer to this?

Re: Can anyone recommend an immigration lawyer?

We're not really sure why they are not renewing his residency status. It has nothing to do with a work visa (he's been legally and very gainfully employed since he arrived from Ecuador 5 years ago). He has also been paying his fair share of taxes. He's considered one the best and most hardworking guys at his place of work.

He does not have any criminal record whatsoever. He's been so grateful for his chance to be here in the US that he gives back by volunteering.

He goes to school and is VERY serious about improving his English.

That all said, we've talked about what we would do if he was forced to go back. While we both wanted it ultimately to be up to us when we got married, we both made the decision that this is what we would do if ICE stepped in. It's something we've both been prepared for (but didn't really think it would happen, but it has).

Can anyone recommend an immigration lawyer?

We are kind of in a bind here. My boyfriend is a legal resident but was told they weren't going to renew his residency. Our first thought was to run to city hall to get married but we don't want to get in trouble with immigration and make the situation worse. We're not really sure where to turn.

Also-- can anyone who's gone through this process offer any advice?

It just kills me that they want to send back such a hard-working, honest and decent person with such a strong work ethic. This country could really use more people like him.

I found it yesterday. Drove by it today and it definitely looks closed!

There are lots of places on Bergenline that serve ceviche. We go to this one Peruvian restaurant that serves great ceviche. I can't remember the name of it or the exact street it's on (Maybe 38th???). It's between New York and Bergenline. I'll take note of the name and address the next time we go.

Thanks for the info! We usually go to an Ecuadorian restaurant on JFK and 8th but it's ALWAYS packed. We sometimes go to Union City for cerviche and this really awesome fish stew. I was hoping to find a place close to home.

The address is 238 14th Street. The addy puts it between Jersey and Coles. That's the on ramp! I'm missing something.

It's listed as a Mexican/ Spanish place but Guayaquil is a city in Ecuador. My boyfriend is from Ecuador. It would be GREAT to get Ecuadorian food so close to home!

We need more after school programs. I know, it's too little too late. BUT we could save kids from turning delinquent in the first place!

It's ridiculous that the city gives tax abatements to the developers. Jersey City has proven itself as PRIME real estate. We no longer need to entice developers to build here.

If the city could tax these developers at full price, we could avoid a raise in property taxes and afford funding for after school programs for these high- risk kids.

Three or 4 dollars amounts to less than 10% of your order. I'd up it to at least 15% if they have to walk up 4 flights. And I'd tip more if the weather is particularly bad.
