Crossing guards make about 35 bucks a day. Whoopee! They freeze their butts off, take crap from lunatic motorists and protect kids. They also get attacked and run over.
Try doing this job at Ferris or Dickinson.it also takes all day to do the job. Jersey City ain,t Mayberry.

Remember people VOLUNTEER to do work at this cemetery.
There is no database of names, just reams of handwritten paper. If your loved ones are there please VOLUNTEER to help create a database. Take the project on and help!
If areas are overgrown, keep in mind, the VOLUNTEERS have hand tools and weed wackers. There is no commercial equipment. You may wish to donate a tractor or commercial lawn equipment. Try mowing the lawn there. If you work an entire day the progress you make is barely perceptible.
Eileen Markenstein and all her volunteers are amazing folks who contribute, not detract.

Quit complaining, understand the issues, (no one is getting paid) and try contributing YOUR time to make this a better place.

I am so tired of the moronic drivel on this site.

What do you think an attorney should be paid for years of work?

I would bet most of you with your high and mighty opinions do not contribute an hour to serve your community.
It's so easy to sit back and take potshots at those who really care and participate.

I would like to thank all the folks on Embankment Preservation. You are selfless citizens who have endured 10 years of the fight. I hope everyone understands your dedication and tenacity. The hours spent for many are equivalent to a full-time job.
Destroying this edifice would be a disaster. This is testament to our history. Let's follow the example of Morris Pesin and Owen Grundy et al... our forefathers who led by example.
Let's face it folks the developers would destroy the Eiffel Tower. We have plenty of new, classless structures on the waterfront.
To all the nay-sayers.....What have you done for your community, lately?

Please attend the meeting tonight.

Kudos to all, esp. Eileen Markenstein and Michelle Egar of the Harsimus Cemetery. Talk about volunteerism.........
These true Jersey City gals have accomplished so much in so short a time. They treat everyone with respect, humility and intelligence. They are an inspiration to all. God bless.

If anyone cares to remember, this cemetery was totally overgrown and neglected for 10 years. There is no money, no owner, just people who dedicate their time helping others. THey are getting the Historic Preservation Award. DID ANY OF YOU EVEN NOTICE THE TRANSFORMATION????
Many of Jersey City's founding fathers are buried there. It is becoming a beautiful, tranquil place.
I know that this stone did not just topple over. There were
So many people ther leaning on these old stones, they toppled it.125 bikers. Give me a break. The Jersey Journal took one side of the story and ran with it.
Today the truth came out.

God bless all the volunteers that brought this space back to life.

If you would like to help just show up on Sat. Morning with work gloves.

It's pretty telling that you would rather look at a single incident from 2002 instead of looking at the fact's on Steve Fulop's record.

Everyone should check out the link posted above in #28. This shows the real truth about the Councilman's record.
read it and make your own choice.

I'm voting Guy.

Seems the best you can come up with is the "squab" incident.

Did Fulop really start the hi rise fire unit? NOT
Did he develop Owen Grundy Park? NOT

Wish he would stop maligning the teachers and Dr. Epps.
I have many teacher friends that are extraordinary educators in the JC system.
THEY ARE SMART EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONALS.
STOP BLAMING THEM FOR SOCIO-ECONOMIC PROBLEMS.
Thank you Tom Favia for setting the record straight.

Does anyone tell you how many words you may send to a friend? C'mon.
How about the personal emails asking people to particpate in Fulops campaign, sent from HPNA members.
Guess this is OK?
Gas on the fire exploded with Fulops website.
Otherwise this all would have been unnoticed.

Let's face the music.
The Fulop camp took a PERSONAL email and started this nonsense. They made baseless statements WITHOUT even reading the email, made assumptions and disparaging remarks and spun it out of control. FULOP'S TEAM MADE IT PUBLIC, with misinformation. It was not sent to a COMMUNITY distribution list. THIS IS A LIE. It was sent to personal friends. One of those folks passed it the FULOP camp.
I have personally viewed emails that contained HPNA members urging others to support Fulop by affixing signs on their houses and also writing letters to the Jersey Journal. Should this be made public? NO, IT"S THEIR BUSINESS TO PRIVATELY SUPPORT ANY CANDIDATE THEY PLEASE.

Some of this group, who consider themselves erudite and righteous, are way out of line. They need to step up professionally and hone their interpersonal skills. This is not a totalitarian state. I have lived here all my life, been a member of the HPNA, personally paid for a section of the iron fence when there was little support from city gov?t., cleaned up the park by hand, provided grass seed, lawn spreaders etc.. , and cleaned dog poop with previous HPNA administrations. I participated in many events with wonderful members and have never seen such poor performance, as today. The group used to be very productive, helping seniors get housing, scrutinizing developers, monitoring green issues (esp. illegal dumping), reaching out to the neighborhood. What a shame. GUY CATRILLO never has and will never stoop this low. Remember, Big Brother is watching!!!!!!!!!

Just can't stay away

I quote:
"Finally, yesterday morning, vocal and key volunteers to the Catrillo campaign started sending out emails (to addresses from community distribution email lists) and letters full of
misinformation and exaggeration."

What really happened is a Catrillo supporter sent a personal email to a few individuals (NOT A COMMUNITY DISTRIBUTION LIST) who asked; why the support for Guy. A Fulop supporter ignorantly, forwarded the email to the campaign.
This sent naive, mean-spirited, self-righteous individuals into turmoil. They made this a public forum by publishing the issues on the website.
Do you think this is an violation of privacy, maybe? Open, honest, government.......hmmmmm.
Who cares about a personal email. Are you joking????
The Junior League has arrived! This feels like a student government election. Manzo and Healy must be laughing their heads off.
