Re: Auto Dialer Election Call

Yeah I received EIGHT automated calls from the Republican party--one at 9 a.m. which is the legal time so you can't file a nuisance complaint. There was no way to call back the numbers that weren't blocked to be taken off the list and if this happens every election..... If i was a Reublican I'd switch.

And I am sure the fact that we pay teachers on average $25,000 less than corrections officers doesn't help.

THIS is what I want enforcement to focus on...violent crimes. Unfortunately most violence is against women.

i know that was a funny but gotta say with that stuff it's all about power---or powerlessness. I dunno how we go about changing that Peace on Earth goodwill towards humans? Maybe one day--ya never know. But I still believe we folk that try harder are in the majority or else we would be done for already

This is more common than we hear about because often the thieves posing as cops are watching the victim for a time and they really DO have drugs or something else illegal, so the victim doesn't report it. These idiots also try to hit up prostitutes for free sex.

Or maybe get some good weed, buy a gun off the tour bus? Maybe you can get a discount with your concert ticket stub.

What the heck are all the security cameras trained on? I read about folk getting caught for smoking joints in their cars by these security cameras so why not these things? Sheeesh.

Double standards suck....and we probably will send a few of these folk to treatment whereas some lower income folk would be sent straight to jail. I guess that's why some officers think it's okay to be hipocrites--the whole system is.

I agree with you that the drug laws are arcane--even cops think that. Go to leap.cc and see why.

Probably some will be upset because of the hipocrisy of officers that arrest folk for what they themselves are doing. I know it upsets me.

At least they know who the pimps are because when you regulate stuff there is less black market and the police can actually do something about it instead of being overwhelmed.

I get you. I am learning about wording my posts in a more focused manner. I DO tend to defend the accused probably because I have witnessed police lying so many times and committing crimes themselves. Small fish to me means mostly prostitutes, homeless, etc. For all the money we spend arresting them and imprisoning them we could buy them a house.

LadyBug247--They were drug dealers? I didn't read that anywhere. I also don't know them personally so I can't state that THEY are thorns in the neighborhood. All I got from the article was that they were young and speaking Spanish and that there were no weopons or drugs on him when caught. But it was sure stupid to spit at cops and then run. I also didn't say the cops had no probable cause, because I really can't tell that from the article either, just that I wish they could catch bigger fish. I believe some cops are good and do good works and I respect that their jobs can be dangerous and that they often DO get real bad guys. Excuse me, I just get frustrated sometimes. Oh and I live at The Beacon but I visit other areas of the city and I have eyes. Crime is everywhere, just folk with money can hide it better.

Ticketing make sense but if I saw an officer giving my car a ticket on a bad day I am not sure what I would say. I hope I'm level headed enough to smile and say, "Have a nice day officer."

That's because it's illegal. If it were regulated it would be safer for the sex workers, less violence, less sexual disease transmission, and cities/states could make money on taxing the bordellos. And do you really think it's going anywhere? It's been around since the dawn of man.

We should legalize prostitution so that there is an area for it. That way people don't have to be shocked. Though I'm not sure that folk having sex on the floor above where there is a child is shocking (I guess old married couples don't do it anymore?). Oh well, I also don't get why chain saw murderer movies are rated PG 13 and movies with topless folk touching each other tenderly are rated R.

DowntownSteve28-- Well, my comment wasn't ignorant but it WAS kinda angry. I have to look at that. Before I worked in the Criminal Justice field I had some truly horrific experiences with police officers and sometimes it shows in my posts. If you had seen the stuff I've seen.... I WISH it was fantasy. I have no right to assume they pretended to think they saw a gun in order to have probable cause to stop someone, but it happens. Of course the guy certainly didn't use his head in riding away.

New Heights always loves to pick on me. I state my opinion and my opinion is based on experience. I worked in NYC Corrections for two years and I teach classes at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. It isn't always on the police officers, it is the fault of having a quota system. Quantity comes before quality of arrests. I also believe it makes good cops do stuff they wouldn't ordinarily do because hey, the guy who gets more arrests gets more money and promotions. The arrests aren't always closely looked at. And that's the fact Jack.

Also I don't feel safer having parking tickets and spitting youths being the police targets. There are REALLY BAD folk out there and they could have been doing something about them instead.

Let's fill the quotas guys. With all the crap going on out there they certainly have better things to do. They probably assumed because it was after 11:00 p.m. and he was out on a bike he was a drug dealer and looked for any probable cause to stop him. In this case they used we thought we saw a gun.

The only way to get any bad elements out is for the good element to become the majority there at night. Everyone who loves the park should try to be out there from 6-10 p.m. Trust me the bad doers will be gone inside two weeks.

I remember at the end of the school year there would be a fight between Spanish and Black groups and also a 'beat-up this person' list passed around. This was 35 years ago. Things are not worse guys but unfortunately they are not better. I try to be an optimist but sometimes.....

Re: Shooting near LSP

Here we go again!!! The threads here always seem to come down to "ooooh is it safe?" The answers always boil down to, use caution, scope out the area on your way through during the day and night, preferably in pairs until you know better. And after that it boils down to what kind of fear level you have and exactly what kinds of things you are afraid of. If you are afraid of dogs I wouldn't expect you to go to a dog run, if you are afraid of ANY color or culture or religion of folk I wouldn't expect you to go to a neighborhood that was dominated by those fear factors of yours, etc. etc. I am afraid of police so I follow all the laws including buckling my seatbelt. OH and I LOVE pitbulls. Too bad they and other big dogs get a bad rap. I even read that black dogs are the least adopted because they remind some folk of evil. Hey, black goes with everything.

Indomitus you're sarcasm is amusing. Thanks for the info Jennymayla. And Iwitness the first post after the article was about safety, the conversation stayed on that topic so I did too. Noone answered the original posters question about why it took so long to get reported and I don't know the answer to that.

They wouldn't be taking that risk if drugs were regulated because they wouldn't make as much profit. AND they would get stiffer sentences if they did this again and were not working within government guidelines.
