Domestic migration? City Journal? oh ok. Yes, we know it's expensive and people leave all the time. It seems they found new ones to take their place.

NYC has over a half million small businesses. Real estate and human resource prices trump these meager incentives any day. But, people still open new businesses there every single day because of the location/exposure, potential client base and educated workforce. The intangibles are limitless.

The high cost of doing business there has been far outweighed by fostering some of the greatest entrepreneurial spirit in the world.

You make it sound like there's some mass exodus or the one factory in town is leaving. You're completely delusional.

Clearly a Sean Conners push poll. This boy has ambitions and people (that don't talk here) like him a whole lot. Would love to hear why.

There's a grey GM astrovan-type on 2nd right now with a very messed up front driver's side bumper. Just east of Coles St on the north side. It's all taped up and could be old damage, but just an FYI. I believe the plate started with FUV.

Damn, I think this guy might have hit me up earlier in the night. Can I just walk down to the East District to talk to them or are they going to make me call that number?

We've had them. The last two, one on Grove and one on Jersey, went out of business.

Those are the charges against the Hoboken cop, Gallo. I agree with you one those.

We were discussing, and really only I was sympathizing with, Mark Medal who was only charged with conspiracy to possess.

I fail to see how a personal failing equates to being a corrupt cop. 16 years of service should amount to something. It has nothing to do with being a boxer.

If every one in the world who ever did drugs got locked up for a $5 or a $50 buy, there's a good chance are someone you love would be in the clink too. Have some flexibility before you jump on your high horses.

It's a shame about Mark Medal. Former IBF champ and really nice guy when I met him. I hope this is just a rough patch for him on the way to greener pastures.

The previous owner now runs Skinner's Loft. So that's not the case.

I'm not celebrating the Ale House closing. It would just be nice to have someplace in HP that actually take some pride in itself besides the White Star and the Embankment.

He really did run it into the ground. I feel sorry for anybody who actually ate the food there in the last year.

So, another place on the block. Good time to buy a bar. Currently on the market:

Lamppost
Sheila's
Ox
Albert's/Rascal's?
Pop Merrigan's?
and presumably the Ale House.

And who knows how Simple stays in business.

It actually came from computer hackers. If I crack the security on you computer and get admin or root privileges, I own your system. Been around since at least the early 90s.

Makes sense. It's a shame though.

In related news, part of the Husdon walkway in Sinatra Park just crumbled into the river...

This definitely needs improvement. About 35+ cops per 10,000 residents in Jersey City. NYC is about 50, Newark is about 54. Hoboken has 44.

What's holding up that "more cops on the beat" promise?

This is an old report, but it should be pretty accurate for % cops per capita. http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/pub/pdf/lema001a.pdf

Sounds familiar. A few years ago I saw a couple of guys with a young kid get chased out there by at least a dozen people. Total mob scene. The guys were fighting them off trying to get in their truck as one of the cooks came out with a knife and started trying to stab the driver. The truck got away but I have to assume he headed straight for the hospital.

I'll get my rice and beans elsewhere.

There have been problematic interpretations of this though.

For example, the Sugar House does have a walkway along the water, but it's mostly useless as it not connected to it's neighbor to the east. From the Goldman building you need to go out to Essex St, turn on Washington and pick up the walkway again past the park.

You have to hit Morris Pesin Dr for about a half mile to pick it up. The road is wide and it's basically just the entrance to the park so it's not too bad to ride/walk on.

You pick up the new path in front of the new marina building after you pass the parking lots and small boat launch. It goes along the water, continues on and elevated walkway through the wetlands (nice!), though a bit of the gold course and you end up is this planned community (forget the name). Head up the road a bit and there a path down back along the Hudson. You can take that for another mile or so as it goes though all the canals and boats of the community. Think Venice on the Hudson. Kindda surreal.

Here's a basic map,

No idea. The problem is that there's nothing linear about it. You keep having get pushed out to roads an neighborhoods. Basically any recent construction should have a decent path along the River for running/biking/walking.

From the Goldman Sachs Building heading north to 14th St in Hoboken is only about 3 miles.

The nicest stretch is LSP with the new southern extention which is about 7 straight miles.

There's also some great parts from Edgewater to Fort Lee along River Road. Hitting that road is no fun though.
