in 2006, 26,300,000 were receiving food stamps in America. over 2 years later, it has increased to 30,000,000.....is that a lot?

is it easier these days to qualify for food stamps?

http://www.palmbeachpost.com/storm/co ... /m1a_STAMP_MAIN_0430.html

another argument that can be made is that it's just another example of Americans not controlling their spending and getting themselves in financial trouble, just like the bozos that took huge mortgages they couldn't afford, and were foreclosing on their houses 18 months later.

people losing their houses for taking foolish loans, people not being able to pay for food because of foolish spending.

of course there are several things to blame, and the recent job losses across the country are most certainly the cause of at least some of this increase of people getting food stamps, but there could be any number of additional reasons for it.

i've gotten so tired of this thread, as I have the last 10 threads regarding a recent dog attack, that I have decided to just walk away from this one, and simply wait for the next one to arrive.......most likely some time in January, I presume.

then Elvis, we can start to argue again about how dangerous/not dangerous pitbulls are.

and then we can blame the owners again.

and then we can say how we handle them every day at the shelter and nothing ever happens to us.

and then we can bring up michael vick.

and then we can all quote ridiculous statistics comparing crossing the street to dog attacks.

and then we can question the comparable bite strength of a pitbull vs. other dogs.

and then we can argue muzzle laws.

and then....................................

........to be continued...........

the "holier than thou" post. way to go.

once you manage to come down from your mental masterbation cloud, reconsider what you just posted, concentrating especially on the nonsense comparing cows and lightning strikes to pitbulls, and give people a little respect for wanting to keep themselves, along with their children, safe from harm.

I can think of several people I know, including myself, that have been bit by a dog and have the scars to prove it. Yeah, you're right sir. An "irrational fear"

get real buddy.

The odds of being attacked and killed by a Pit Bull are in your favor -approximately 1 in 145,000,000. That?s million folks. In contrast, you are 4 times more likely to be killed by a cow in the USA than any breed of dog, much less a Pit Bull. Thats why I mock you.

Forget deaths, run the Cow/Pitbull number again comparing serious bodily injury, permanent scars, hospital occurences, etc., and you'll get a totally different number.

Also, and you know this to be true, those cow deaths are the drunk idiots going cow tipping somewhere in East Bumblestink rural America and while the cow is going down, they slip in the mud and get crushed by the sleeping slab of beef.

let's run some numbers next year and have the same number of people pushing on sleeping cows every year to match a bunch of drunk people interrupting random Pitbulls in their sleep, and see where the statistics go from there. my vote is for a drunk guy shred fest.

hell, i'll go back to my original question, but now with a cow:

you have a choice of leaving your infant child in a room with a cow or a pitbull......

which do you choose?

that's why I mock YOU.

The thought of a grown man crossing the street to avoid a dog is too funny.

another comment that truly tickles my taco.

was there any point to you specifically stating, "a grown man" in that comment?

Arnold Schwarzenegger, in his prime, would crumble to the ground in pain from a crushing bite of a pitbull anywhere on his body.

Hell, Bruce Lee would be defenseless. A bite in the arm from a pitbull would have turned his arm bone to splinters.

To be honest, the loaded gun example is quite appropriate. Better yet, russian roulette. Imagine a gun with a cylinder that holds thousands of bullets, but only one bullet is within the cylinder. It's no different than someone avoiding walking past a big scary dog without a muzzle. More often than not, the dog will leave you alone, but the day it gets pissed off and smells snausages on your neck.....game over.

You simply cannot mock, or call someone ignorant for playing it safe, because that my dears, would be ignorant.

You handle pitbulls all day at the shelter without a single incident you say? Funny, that's what the gun salesman said about all his assault weapons at the corner Guns n' Ammo store last weekend.

i HATE myself for getting back into this discussion, it's like kicking a dead horse that died 7 times over, but this comment really gets on my tits:

Quote:
I also find that most people heading my way tend to cross the street. Those are ignorant folks.

yeah. you're right. i'm ignorant for decreasing my chances of getting attacked by a potentially vicious dog. the same reason why I avoid dark alleys at night and most parts of Newark and Patterson, NJ.

I can recall a day like it was yesterday, I was jogging down Jersey Ave. and a man and his enormous dog were walking down the street in the opposite direction. i saw the dog, put no trust in whether it would bite me or not, and decided I was going to distance myself from the dog as much as possible while still staying on the sidewalk and not going out onto the road. well, the dog lunged at me and its jaws snapped shut a foot away from my face, thanks to the man being tentative and yanking on the dog's collar just in time to pull it back. needless to say i slowed to a walk after that so that I could give this man a total ration of $hit for owning such a violent dog and walking it without a muzzle.

Quote:
A golden Retriever is capable of the same damage as a Pit-Bull, Chow, Lab, etc. etc.

i simply do not believe this statement. secondly, if a golden retriever gets pissed off and attacks a child, i can plant a straight right hand into it's ribs and it will yelp and let go. i cannot do the same to a pitbull. it would be the equivalent of tickling its paw.

Quote:
Anyone who makes anti-pitbull remarks

................within reason, are completely rational, logically thinking people.

Quote:
I own a pit.... I also how a lab/chow mix who is about 20 pounds smaller then my pit and a whole lot shorter.... she beats up on this pit, provokes him, bites him, snaps at him... and he does nothing but run away from her and cry like a little baby.

simple question: if you had a rambunctious 3 year old child, that let's say for arguement's sake that liked to pull dogs' ears, and you could stick the child in a room with a pitbull or a lab, both of which you are unaware of their history, which do you choose?

You know why we keep having this conversation on JClist??? BECAUSE THE SAME VIOLENT INCIDENTS KEEP HAPPENING!!!

So yeah, you're right Croft, for the mother of 3 avoiding walking her children directly past a pitbull in the park, that's nothing short of ignorant

maybe this question is too early or out of place, i know everyone is still in celebration mode, but:

i'm watching msnbc, and they are harping about how Obama is "the first African American president of the United States,"........... but......is he???

if Obama was half Columbian/half white dude, would they be saying "the first Latino president of the United States"?

it just seems a bit odd to state that claim outright that he is African American. by blood, he's just as Rural Kansas as he is African American.

when Obama was asked, "is Sarah Palin qualified to be President," why couldn't he just say NO. let's be honest, there is a million and 1 reasons why she's not qualified to run the United States.....would it be so terrible for him to just flat out say, "NO, she's not."

After all, if he's being asked a yes or no question, isn't he at liberty to answer NO.

i was watching Tom BrokenJaw interviewing Bloomberg recently, I wanted to reach into the screen and smack him.

the interview went something like this:

Brokaw asked him, "so, once your term is over and you are no longer mayor, what do you plan on doing?"

Bloomberg makes this silly comment that he wants to take Brokaw's job, and then says, "everyone working here seems to be doing well, much better than my $1 a day salary as mayor."

Brokaw says, "Ok, but your net worth puts us all to shame."

Bloomberg says, "well.....it all goes to charity....," and then quickly changes the subject.

With all the money the rich have pilfered from the everyday american over the past 10 years, maybe you're right TankAss, maybe they should just cough some of it up to pay for this disaster, but in the end, I blame American people as well. Americans refuse to change their lifestyles or mentalities, and although there was no regulation with these banks for the loans they continued to sign, people gotta learn to live within their means. When you earn $60,000, don't live $80,000. We can only hope that at the very least, this bad turn of events will go down as a lesson learned for people who have no control over their spending habits, and that goes for the rich all the way down to the poor.

there are no more "words" for these types of incidents anymore. every thread like this looks exactly the same:

"wow, i live so close to there....."

"i work right there......"

"I take that train....."

"We need more streetlights/surveillance cameras....."

"I walk that street every night on the way home from work...."

"I really liked that shop owner......"

and, of course, some death penalty discussion, followed up with how the city is failing to protect it's citizens.

i'd rather read a new pitbull thread.

not once have i read a thread on here saying, "assaulted......man approached her.......maced the attacker.......walked away unharmed......."

So it finally happened - my first NJ speeding ticket... The first one, in fact, in 10 years, so I'm understandably upset and willing to go to court to ask for some leniency. So how does that work? Anyone "guilty" got any breaks from the judge?

The fact:
I was going 45 on a 25 - ticket is 200 bucks and god knows how many points on my insurance

Mitigating factors:
I was going down the hill on Montgomery and really, honestly didn't realize I was going that fast;
My kids were screaming on the back seat.
Like I said, this is a first in about 10 years - no parking tickets, non-moving violations, nada before.

Do I stand a chance? What should I do/say?"

Its pretty disturbing to see so many posts that are either racist or stereo typing. Most teens and men that wear white ts dont do it for criminal reasons. Its because the white makes you cooler in the heat then dark colors. Wearing them a few sizes bigger keeps you cooler since less fabric is touching your skin. They are also cheap, look clean and match most fitted caps and sneakers. No most of the kids wearing them dont wear them because of rappers its because its a style and the reasons above. For the most part rappers wear what the streets wear its not the other way around. Also the long t look actually started in Jersey, other citys always had the big white ts but the long ones started locally. (Before rappers started to wear them.) If there are any serious questions about street styles someone would like to ask feel free to ask me just try your best not to be ignorant about it.

i have some simple questions for you:

1) first and foremost, what posts, in your opinion, have you seen that are racist? you have a completely different take on this subject, so i'm curious as to how you would answer that.

2) was anyone suggesting that "most people that wear these clothes do it for criminal reasons"?

3) you stated that people wear these t-shirts because it matches their clothing and it keeps them cool. if that was the case, why wouldn't they wear shorts or lighter pants if they are so concerned about regulating body temperature? also, with that said, do they wear their pants half way down their butts to keep their asses cool as well? more importantly, explain to me why they wear this in the cities of california......where it's in the 70's, 80's and 90's every day?

4) do YOU wear your t-shirts 3 sizes too big.....ya know.....to keep cool?
