Just saw that there are some new Xfinity (Comcast) Hotspots in town - http://www.nj.com/hobokennow/index.ss ... unches_wifi_hotspots.html There are about 15 in all of Jersey City, 4 of which are downtown, and it looks like there are none in the heights.
The annoying part is that there are about 15 hotspots in all of Jersey City and more than 150 in Hoboken and Bayonne. JC has a population of 240,000, Hoboken 38,000 and Bayonne 61,000 (as of 2000 census) You can see the map here - http://comcast.cellmaps.com/wifi.html If you want to let Comcast know what you you can reach them here - https://secure.opinionlab.com/ccc01/co ... 1286914542613&custom_var=

Why was there an outcry when the park was closed? This renovation has been in the cards for years now. We should have all rejoiced when they closed the park and finally got to work. The sooner they start, the sooner they finish. There was an outcry because there was no communication from the city before they blocked the entrances and put up no trespassing sings (nice touch), they didn't tell anyone. This is our park that many of us are in every day. We like to know what's going on and we don't want to get surprised like this even if we have all been waiting years for the rennovation to get done. Healy and Fulop should stand up now, take responsibility and commit to keeping us in the loop. I'd like to hear from the city how long the park will be closed (both planned and worst case scenario) and I also want to know why the entire park is going to be closed.

Anyone heard of the Street View feature on google maps? Google has cars that take 360 degree photographs from the street, it's a great feature and very useful.
I guess the cops should have stopped the google camera car that went all the way through the tunnel. And through the Lincoln tunnel. And on the NJ turnpike. Holland Tunnel Street View Lincoln Tunnel Street View NJ Turnpike Street View

So, if I stand on Newark Ave and take a photo of friend, where the turnpike happens to be in the backgroud - that's illegal? Or, if I am flying into Newark Airport and take a picture of the ground and the turnpike is in the photo, that's illegal? Or, if I take a photo out of my bedroom window, where I can see the turnpike, that's illegal? Ridiculous and not true. Cite the law. Public photography is not a crime. People have the right to photograph whatever they want when they are in a public place (such as a sidewalk or street) unless there is a specific ordinance that prohibits it.

So, as someone posted above, the van with the cameras and the new boots are the work of these people http://www.paylock.com
The Parking Authority retains these guys and ups the booting fee from $75 to $110. Guess who gets the $35 extra - you guessed it, Paylock. We're going to see a lot more booting. Beware if someone is visiting you and spends more that 2 hours parked without a permit, they're going to get the boot. One of the ways they've justified the increase is that you can pay the fine over the phone and get the code to disconnect the boot yourself - how nice! So, if I can get the boot disconnected by phone is the Parking Authority doing anything positive to serve JC residents like allowing someone to get a visitor parking pass by phone? I'm not holding my breath. I know that parking is more difficult in Jersey City, but isn't there a better way than this? The article below has all of the juicy details - http://www.jcheights.com/news-article ... _23_JCPA_New_Meters.shtml

Walking through Hamilton Park today I saw that the parking authority has a new toy - a van with cameras slowly driving down 8th street. I guess they've got something that can automatically read the tags and note the time to see if people don't have permits or are out of state.
Remind me again how much money did the parking authority lose last year and the year before that and, oh yeah, the year before that? Time to disolve the JCPA or get someone who can make the thing work to the benefit of the citizen of Jersey City and not it's employees or anyone else.
