Seeing a politician speak is a neat experience. Gets you excited that maybe you can actually be a part of something that will make a positive change with our country.

I wen to the Democratic National Convention the night that Clinton spoke in 1992. I wasn't really convinced I would be voting for him at that point, but after his speech, I did feel more confident in him. And I was also a part of history by being there in the crowd.

Thanks for all the info so far! Just wondering, if you already have one car with a parking permit for the area, will they give you a pass to park another car there?

I used to park at the mall when I worked at Newport Tower. if you weren't using your car, you had to register the other license plate with the office.

Someone goes through there at night and writes down all the license plate numbers to check against their records. Not sure exactly how the system works or how they can monitor which car is paying daily and which is monthly.

Is today an election day?

I haven't received a sample ballot.

I searched for my voting location online and Holland Gardens still comes up.

When can we get moved back to 500 Grove (manilla)? It was never crowded, I could walk from my place and be done in 5 minutes and on my way to work.

I hope they get this fixed by next year's presidential election. It just doesn't make sense that I have 2 polling stations within a block of my home, but I have to trek over there.

When I had my cockatiel, and lived in the city, I took him to Dr. Haddock. She was very good.

A couple of years ago, I took him to the vet on Washington St. in Hoboken and they mis-diagnosed him. Would not recommend them.

From that link, the only way that the city would be liable is if there were several complaints about a dog and the city did nothing about it.

I think it would be in the cities and communities best interest to make sure that there are proper rules and regulations posted in the park to protect themselves.

Here is what the link says about suing the city:
"The victim of a personal injury or injury to the victim's dog probably will not prevail on a claim against the local government entity that established the dog park. Generally, there are immunities that protect government entities from many claims; if the entity believed that it was doing something beneficial for the community, it is hard to get around the immunity.

However, failure to enforce its own rules and regulations may result in governmental liability. Dog parks frequently are governed by special rules that are either posted or part of the local municipal code. If an irresponsible dog owner has a habit of breaking those rules, and the local animal control officers do nothing despite being informed, a person who sustains personal injuries or injuries to his or her dog may prevail against the municipality. "

Doesn't sound to me like the owner of the biter can sue the city, but the victim can.

I had a dog. Of course she bit her chew toys and stuff. Didn't bite me unless I put my hand in her mouth.

From the link you posted:

In every state, the owner or possessor of a dog having a dangerous propensity (i.e., the propensity to jump on people or bite people) is strictly liable for injuries that result from the dog's dangerous propensity. So, if a dog owner knows that his dog likes to jump on people and knock them down, and if that happens in a leash-optional area, the dog owner will be liable under state law.

Also, most states have laws imposing strict liability on dog owners whose dogs actually bite someone, irrespective of whether the dog previously bit anyone. These laws still apply, even though the bite occurs in a dog recreation area where leashes are optional.

If a dog owner knows that his dog has the dangerous tendency to attack and fight with other dogs, he should not bring that dog into a dog park. Doing so would be not only negligent but would constitute a reckless disregard for the safety of other dogs, the rights of other dog owners, and the safety of other dog owners. A dog owner should be held fully responsible for all resulting injuries to other people and their dogs. The doctrine of assumption of the risk should not apply because the victim cannot be regarded as accepting the risk of such negligent, reckless and possibly illegal conduct

------------------

And you don't have to walk your dog past the playground. You can walk to Pavonia and enter the park there.

If your dog is a biter, you shouldn't even be bringing them to a public park, let alone a dog run. You can't sue the city because your dog bites people, whether you are on a city sidewalk or in a park. You'll be lucky of the victim doesn't insist on the dog being put to sleep (something I am against BTW but see it happen all of the time, mostly family pets who bite young children).

Did anyone catch this Letter to the editor in yesterdays Jersey Journal?

http://www.nj.com/opinion/jjournal/le ... 52341117130630.xml&coll=3

I love how Sonia thinks metered parking is the solution to a neighborhood she doesn't live in, but was very much against metered parking in her neighborhood. This is what she wrote about it:

"Many of us have come to realize that parking in Newport is at a premium. Some of our residents cannot afford to pay for parking in the private garages, in particular some of the tenants who live in the subsidized housing in Presidential Plaza. Resident parking must come first. How dare Mr. Fulop suggests that metered parking for non-residents be made available at the expense of residents.

As for Steve Fulop, we have a special message. If it turns out metered parking is approved for Newport, every time a tenant feeds a quarter into one of the meters, we urge them to let it serve as a reminder that Steve Fulop is responsible for their tremendous inconvenience. We're certain all those quarters will remind tenants, over ,and over, and endlessly over again."

http://newportwaterfrontassociation.o ... wthread.php?t=1980&page=3

So she decides to side with the 5 vets. Can we assume because Steve Fulop was in favor of closing the street and giving the Vets permits. Something that the majority of vets and residents of that area agreed to?

Sonia should be doing something about the parking in her area for visitors. I can't tell you what a nightmare it is just to pick up my boyfriend's fathers mail while he's been in the hospital. The nearest garage we can park in is $5 for the first hour. There is a nice garage right behind his dad's building that is half empty. Don't understand why they can't dedicate some short term visitor parking spots there at a reduced cost.

What Sonia forgets is that Steve has a lot of supporters. After all, we did get him elected. I don't agree with everything he does, but I do feel that he's doing the best for the community. He's very responsive, etc. But, as you know, he does not tell me to post on his behalf.

Last week there was a thread on that message board where they wanted to sue everyone in this thread for slander. There's no slander here. The only slander is them spouting off that Steve is behind all of our negative posts about her and the NWA. That is so far from the truth.

And also, the other day, it appeared, in my opinion, as though Sonia is actually talking to herself on those boards. One of the posters asked a question, she forgot to log out and answered the question in the same persons user name.

It's also funny how they lie and twist the facts about the Korean Vets memorial. You just know that if Steve Fulop was for opening the street they would be against it. If Fulop was against renaming Pavonia they would be for it.
Not only that, Fulop wasn't the only one involved in that fiasco, yet you wouldn't know it from their posts.

If I lived at Newport, I would make sure that woman gets thrown off of the NWA. She gives that place a bad name.

They need to grow up and try and work with Fulop instead of against him. It's in the best interest for their community.

Look out everyone. Sonia and her minions want to sue us for defamation of character. But how is it defamation if it is the truth?

And Sonia and minions, Steve Fulop has nothing to do with this thread and is not behind any of this. You really need a reality check.

My reason for voting for Vas came down to a few things.
1. The endorsement from Kuccinich.
2. In the Jersey Journal endorsment for Sires, they listed their views side by side. They were exactly the same except for one thing: Vas supports punishing companies who hire illegals.
3. Sires was once a Republican and pro-life. I don't think we need a wishy-washy candidate on this subject in the House at this time.

I read her Fulop posts from time to time and her arguments so many times are nothing but air. If she ever runs for some kind of office, I will campaign for the person running against her. We already have a dictator as a president. Trying to avoid that on a local level.

Painting S T O P on the street does nothing.

Two intersections I go through every day have STOP painted on the street and no one cares. Specifically Manilla and 9th. When I am trying to turn on Manilla, I'll approach the stop sign the same time the guy on Manilla does. Technically, I am on the right, I have the right of way. He goes ahead and then the 3 cars behind him blow right through the stop sign giving me the finger as I am trying to turn.

This also happens on 8th and Erie.

And I am gettign a little sick of the left on red at Erie and 9th and people honking at me to go through the red light because they can't wait :30 for the light to change. I'm not risking my life for these morons.

re: cell phones. I hope someday they change the law so that you can be pulled over for using a cell phone. No one will ever obey the law if they think they can get away with it.

Please consider the following comments on the March 6 version, and recommendations for its improvement.

2. The Plan currently appropriately cites "Smart Growth" principles, including "minimiz[ing] automobile use by maximizing the appeal of mass transit, encourag[ing] reduced parking and shared use parking solutions." This and similar "boilerplate" statements in the Plan pay only lip service, however, to these principles. The Plan actually calls for vastly increased parking facilities, which will encourage car ownership and use in the Downtown and decrease incentives for mass transit use.

Recommendation: The Planning Division should seriously explore options for encouraging mass transit and alternative transportation and discouraging car ownership. Examples: requiring the developer to provide bike racks, providing more attractive pedestrian access to the Newport Mall, and allotting parking spaces to car sharing organizations like the one now operating in Hoboken.

This "smart growth" is what will drive myself and my neighbors out of the neighborhood. Not everyone who lives here has access to mass transportation to get them to work. Many reverse commuters live here so that they have easy access to the city, but can still get into there car to get to work. There is no mass transit for me to get to my job. However, my boyfriend doesn't have a car and needs the PATH access to the city.

You will have the same amount of cars no matter how many parking spots they build. The less of them on the street, the better.

Anyone who parks in zone 6 should be worried about their quality of life. This scenerio happened to me in Hoboken. At first I had no problems getting a parking spot. But then I would be circling and circling for 30 minutes at 2am when i came home from work. Not fun. I don't want to see this happening here. With the Park Hamilton losing some of their spots as well as people who rent spots from the Erie garage, that will already be causing overload in the zone.
