How can you conclude that they even have a contract or agreement with Fedex for drop offs? The fact that Fedex directs you to his location, may be sort of a lead generator for him to possibly get some additional business. He may be doing enough business with Fedex to warrant daily pick ups, and for that reason, Fedex directs customers there. I have dropped of several packages for UPS, and Fedex there on several occasions, they were always polite, and simply pointed to where I should leave the package, and I don't have an account there. They are doing this as a service for no renumeration. Perhaps they get annoyed when people bring in improperly labeled or improperly sealed packages that may require them to do something with no hope of getting compensated for their efforts. If thats the case, I can't blame them for being annoyed.

Try David at Jemma Loan, corner of Newark and Jersey Ave. Very nice, very honest, very reasonable.

I have seen it myself, Policemen with ID hanging around their necks just parking there without giving it a second thought. In fact today is street cleaning on the right hand side. The cleaner comes between 1:30 and 1:40. Hang out on the corner of Manila and Bay, and you will see the Parking Authority scooter and the street cleaner completely bypass Bay between Manila and Erie, making a left on Manila. This is because its well known that the bulk of these cars belong to Policemen, and they are "exempt" from parking enforcement.

it's been said. several times. street-cleaning days on that corner are a joke. no one gets ticketed, and as a result, 1st street is always swimming in trash.

You missed the point, the violators are the Police, park your car there on those days, and you will get ticketed. The street cleaner simply drives around the cars known to belong to Policemen. Its an enforcement issue that puts public safety at risk.

>>while I appreciate the sentiment behind the creation of this site, many of the cars you posted were parked a good distance from the stop signs. it's the jerks who park right-up-to the corner who are creating a dangerous situation.

In most instances there are two state laws that are being broken:

New Jersey Statute Annotated 39:4-138(e) prohibits parking within 25 feet of a crosswalk.

New Jersey Statute Annotated 39:4-138(h) mandates that cars need to be parked further than 50 feet from a stop sign.

Of course I realize that in a city both of these distances are unrealistic. All of the cars listed on the site are less than 15 feet from the stop signs, which obscures the signs from being seen in time by traffic moving down First Street.

Additionally, there is only one stop sign at the intersection of First and Erie Streets.

Is there a specific car you were concerned about?[/quote]

Bravo for the creation of the web site, hope you can shame the offenders into doing the right thing, or at least get the city to step up enforcement.

One thing everyone is failing to say is that this location is about 200 ft from Internal Affairs. What are they odds that most of these people, if not all of them are Police Officers? Should an accident be caused because a driver did not have visability due to the fact that a car was parked too close to the corner or crosswalk, then the owner of the parked car (if its not legally parked) should be held liable.

Thanks for the replies. It's one of those situations where it would have been o.k. to protest it immediately but by the time I figured it out (just outside the store) it would have looked strange. And only one register was open so innocent people would have suffered.

I suspect it wasn't a mis-calibration since other items turned up with plausible numbers, possibly some kind of extraneous weight on the scale.

So you really don't know if you were overcharged, other items came up with "plausible numbers". This appears only to happen with fruit. Perhaps the cashier punched in the wrong code and the unit price was wrong, not the weight. In any event, many of these responses seem drastic.

I checked a few of these numbered roads on your link. It looks to me that this is an inventory of traffic signals, and wherever there is an intersection with a traffic signal, both streets are appear to be numbered, perhaps for service or accuracy of location of a particular piece of equipment. Kennedy Blvd is a county road.

I suspect its a typo, and its referring to Van Houten Avenue in Passaic. Passaic County Road 614, Van Houten Avenue in Jersey City is not a County Road.

The Flying "A" gas station on Henderson Street, (where Rascals was), with the gas pumps at the curb on Henderson Street, you just pulled up and they would "filler up", for about 20 cents per gallon.

More likely, the fine is based on the number of times you violated this law. They want you to go to court so that if you plead guilty or are found guilty, they can give you the appropriate fine based on your history.

Don't see why a Judge would dismiss the ticket.
Downtown, the Parking Authority often come in pairs and writes tickets, you may have come after the first guy, but not the 2nd.

Well, that explains why last summer I saw a big fat bunny hopping blithely along in the alley way between All Ironworks on Coles and the embankment.

I was surprised at how healthy and animated he was and thought he might have been a pet that had recently escaped. escaped from someone's pen.

Does anyone know how to prepare fried rabbit?

1/3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. black pepper
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
1 wild rabbit or 2 squirrels, cut up
vegetable oil
3 T. flour
1 1/2 c. milk or chicken broth
salt and pepper
brown bouquet sauce

In a lg. plastic food-storage bag, combine 1/3 c. flour, the salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Shake to mix. Add rabbit/squirrel pieces and shake to coat.

In a lg. skillet, heat 1/4" of oil for rabbit, or 1/8" of oil for squirrel, over med-high heat until hot. Add coated meat. Brown on all sides. Reduce heat and cover tightly. Cook over very low heat until tender, 20-25 mins. for rabbit, 35-45 mins. for squirrel, turning pieces once. Remove cover, and cook 5 mins. longer to crisp.
Transfer meat to plate lined with paper towels. Set aside to keep warm.

Discard all but 3 T. oil. Over med. heat, stir flour into reserved oil. Blend in milk. Cook over med. heat, stirring constantly, until
thicken and bubbly. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add bouquet sauce if darker color is desired. Serve gravy with meat.

I agree it kind of stinks, but on the other hand, they were under no obligation to blow their horns in the first place. The sign says when you can't park, and it's up to you to move your car during that time. I suppose it would be a hardship for a homebound person with a disability, but otherwise I don't see the big deal.

1. They were surely under no obligation, but it was a welcomed wakeup call if you were parked on the wrong side.
2. How will you know they came by already, a sure sign they passed is cars parked on the block, but these cars are there already without tickets!
3. Why should the police eat virtually all the parking up in 2 streets, when they have a parking lot on Bay Street they could leave their keys at the front desk, and allow the taxpayers the space they paid for with their taxes, or better yet, let them all park on the streets, and give the parking lot to the public for the exclusive use of the residents. That would solve the problem completely.
4. And what about the section of Bay Street where I live, it never gets cleaned because the cleaner won't go up our block, so the police don't get their cars ticketed. Is this right? If the cars that got slashed on Bay Street last week belonged to the police, it was probably done by a frustrated resident, if they belonged to anyone eles, it was probably done by the police for "invading their turf"

add this to the neverending list of the incompetance of the JCPD.

There are 2 sides to every story, and in this case 3 sides. I would love to hear the police officer's version, as well as the EMS version, I am sure that you will find that Slacky's behavior or actions were less than perfect. We should not just take the word of 1 person and convict everyone else, there may be some information missing here. I am sure that JCPD followed the correct protocol for this type of situation.
