And I wonder what would have happened if they'd contacted animal control and captured the animals alive.

The police are going to file charges of neglect and animal cruelty against the owner. Meanwhile, they're the ones who shot the dogs.

It must have been confusing for residents: I'm not sure I could tell the difference between armed JC police officers and unleashed pit bulls.

jmiz -- Do you know where they want to put it, if it does come to Liberty State Park? It's so big. The same people opposed to the 9/11 memorial will be opposed to this if it blocks the view of NYC.

I'm crazy about Rustique. Really delicious pizza. Make sure you get black olives on yours. They use tasty fresh kalamata (or similar) olives, not canned black olives like many places.

I wish. But if we can't get rid of that god-awful stabbed-in-the-back statue in Exchange Place, we'll never get rid of this.

I went to see the memorial in person today, and I have to say it's enormously ugly from almost every angle. If you look at it straight, right down the hallway, it's attractive and moving. From every other angle, it's a giant eyesore.

NYC and JC are in the same position: the state governors chose to build monstrously large memorials as if to answer the enormity of the attacks, but it will be up to the citizens of those cities to live with them. Both memorials come off as egotistically huge.

The memorial doesn't ruin the park, and it's still easy to get a good view of Manhattan, but it was a terrible choice.

In a real emergency, the sirens tell you, "Hey, there's an emergency here. Turn on the news so you know what's going on."

Jeezus, that's the stupidest thing I've heard of in a long time. Rather than ringing church bells, JC blares a siren we've never heard before and scares the crap out of everybody.

Okay, I remember the fear of that day now. Thanks, JC.

I just realized, with some sadness, that all summer long I haven't heard the lonesome whistle of the freight trains that pass through our area at night. Does anyone have info on this? Do trains no longer pass through JC at night? That whistle was one of my favorite things.

I got home at 2:30 last night and I was thrilled to see that Gypsy Grill was still open. It looked like it had a good friendly atmosphere, with the owner and some buds hanging out. Sure, I wish the new pizza place by the Grove PATH would stay open late on weekends, but this gives late-nighters a great option. Let's all support this place.

Re: The Embankment could have been JC's High Line
#74

I'm all for more parks, but can we stop the insanity of the Embankment people? The High Line has elevators to bring up the disabled and has multiple workers with walkee-talkees patrolling it constantly. If it wasn't patrolled and cleaned, it would become a seedy no-man's-land in days.

To turn the Embankment into that kind of park, we'd need bridges to join all the sections, multiple elevators, security guards, lamps, fencing, and landscaping. No one's going to spend that much money for a park that doesn't even go through a high-traffic part of town. Pick your battles, people. There are plenty of other places to beautify downtown.

I completely agree with Brewster. The few times I was in there, the owner was rude to me. That's why I haven't been back in years. I'll go out of my way to find a drop-off box or go to Staples to use their machines.

If the prices on a few things are Trader Joe's are cheaper, then just buy those few things. Personally, I like the inexpensive dried cranberries.

The new TJ on 6th Avenue seems to have shorter lines. Much shorter, when I was there. None of the three-buck Chuck, though, sadly.

Oh, about C-Town: an employee told me there was never a purchase deal and that was all an Internet rumor. Rumor-mongers!

As much as I'd enjoy beating up on C-Town, the current owners are doing a better job than the previous owners. The rotten meat smell is gone (city inspectors had a lot to do with that) and there are higher quality products on the shelves. I wouldn't do my regular shopping there, but it's a handy store to have around.

Looks like our soft pretzel days are over. I stopped by today and the place was closed. By the look of it, the owners are in the middle of carting everything off. Even the menu signs were gone. I guess I have to go to Philadelphia now to get their terrific honey mustard dipping sauce.

A few years ago I had to turn in a neighbor for keeping chickens in his backyard. You know, they make noise. Do you and all your neighbors want to wake up to chickens everyday?

I didn't know about the 25-foot rule. When I called the city, they told me that keeping livestock was illegal in the city. The next day the chickens were gone.

If you download the Area Map PDF from this page, you can see where it will be. It's as far from the millionaire's golf course as it can be.

As was pointed out in the All Points West thread, the site says the event "will take place for the first time in New York over the Hudson River at Liberty State Park in Jersey City."

Maybe we're finally the sixth borough.

Clear Skies Solar Signs $1,300,000 Jersey City Project

Company launching second fully financed project of 2010 -- CEO comments on future growth.

MINEOLA, N.Y., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Clear Skies Solar, Inc., a full-service renewable energy provider to commercial, industrial and agricultural clients, announces its second fully financed project for 2010, a 324 kW solar power project to be installed on the ShopRite building located in the Metro Plaza in New Jersey. The new project is being financed by G&S Investors of New York City, bringing the total currently announced and financed CSS backlog to $2.1 million or more than half a megawatt in just the first six weeks of the New Year 2010.

"Our business pipeline for 2010 is already shaping up to be very strong. There are many positive industry factors contributing to this growing pipeline including strong government incentives, attractive component pricing and the increased availability of financing for such projects," commented Ezra Green, CEO of Clear Skies Solar. "As we have previously discussed, we are moving forward with our plans for expansion and for delivering to our shareholders fully financed projects and strong revenue growth. On March 2nd, we will be breaking ground on our first major project of 2010 in which we will install 185 kWs on the old Linens & Things building located in the Livingston Shopping Plaza. The project we are announcing today is schedule to begin shortly thereafter. We are clearly excited about the resurgence of financing within the solar energy space and look forward to the strong growth we expect to realize throughout the rest of the year. It is clearly an exciting time for all of us at Clear Skies Solar," said Green.

Gregg Wasser, CEO of G&S Investors, commented, "We look forward to continued growth with Clear Skies Solar and appreciate the model they have in place as it ensures our projects get completed on time with high quality and efficiency."

That park has such a potential to harbor some seriously bad elements yet I've rarely seen a problem there. I'm glad the cops gave you a hard time frankly. You were willfully ignorant and giving them a hard time.

And on the tangent this conversation has taken.... yes, half the cops you will meet are uneducated goons. So what? Don't break the law and you don't have to deal with them you entitled idiot.

Completely disagree with your arrogant response. If a Starbucks barista can deal with dozens of idiots per hour and remain pleasant, then a park cop, who probably has one difficult situation a month, can talk to people decently. We should demand more from the police that serve us.
