Super Vegetarian Burrito at Mission Burrito in the Heights is outstanding. And spicy!

Favorite joke:
Q: How do you know if someone is vegan?
A: Don't worry, they'll tell you!

I agree that the tour and commuter helicopters level of traffic is bonkers. and it's crazy to think that brooklyn fought the traffic and got it pushed "out of" their air space. thankfully, for what it's worth, there are politicians over here that have now taken it up as a quality of life issue. I am fine with city noise, but it is crazy, on a weekend, trying to have a quiet walk along the river in hoboken or play in the park, and there is (literally) not more than five seconds of quiet... EVER. we timed it. oh well.

as for news copters. they simply can't pool their feed because each station is waiting (and hoping?) for a disaster nearby, or anywhere, that they can swoop off to and get the exclusive shots!

I spent time in Cairo, and other countries in that region and saw the complete opposite - the classism (?) was SO blatant, and the street people, or the homeless, or the mentally challenged, or the adicts, or the people who lived (and worked) on the massive trash dump, or in the cemetary... were COMPLETELY ignored. Every North African / Arab / Persian / Middle Eastern dude I met (and yes, I am making a massive, sweeping generalization), treated anyone who was below them (even the slightest), poorly. The only help I saw being offered to the destitute / homeless / needy, came from western charities, mostly religious. It was an eye opening experience for me (in my first of several trips to North Africa and the Middle East)....

My wife and her folks went yesterday and had a great time. They said the course was amazing, the crowds were managable, and everything like drinks/food was pretty reasonably priced.

I even got to see them on tv for a split second!

At about five yesterday we tried to go from The Barclays to Rita & Joe's and traffic around the 1 & 9 was terrible - as was traffic on all the neighborhood streets we tried to use to avoid it... all the way up thru little india to JFK... it was just traffic, dead stopped, all over the place. Not awesome!

I've been to lots of events at Casino in the Park, and i've always been pleasantly surprised at how well they turn it out for an event...

the places in Kearny are also great....

We had our son's Baptism lunch at Rita's & Joe's and it was really great. Don't know if it's big enough for you....

Honestly, I think they ARE the only game in town...

Years ago, my wife started an all-woman gun club in NYC who shot for fun. Not to be gun nuts or anything, just for fun. Eventually, she became qualified to be an NRA Marksmanship Instructor...

BUT, along the way, their meetings/meet ups/fun shoots, started getting people showing up from the NRA, and then, Young Republican groups... who began preaching about really extreme and political views....

My wife and her cohorts were so turned off, they disbanded the club because they didn't want to be associated with that rhetoric....

another thing I laugh about is how, under Healy, any article in the JJ from littering to murder to drugs to car crashes, earned it's own post on JCList.com - usually with multiple comments about how everything was "Healy's fault"...

Come on people, fair is fair, let's blame Steve for everything as well!

And no, we're not allowed to give him credit for anything good he gets done, because you never gave Healy credit for anything positive either....

(and full disclosure - I am a Fulop supporter!)

i find it funny that so many people think that "maxwells" is coming to Jersey City, knowing that Todd A states one of his major reasons for giving up Maxwells in Hoboken is PARKING. Does anyone here think parking is better anywhere in downtown?

Uncle Joe's had plenty of parking in the area - it was before luxury condos took over the "PAD"... and it was purchased, shut down, and turned into.... a parking lot for luxury condos!

Knowing the last administration, and it's history, and you moved here a few years ago, and now you're disappointed? Nothing here is a new issue, and honestly, the city, overall IS better than it was, three years ago, five years ago, ten years ago....

I (obviously) don't know you - but what do you want? Have you been involved in working towards making the city better?

Not an attack, just honest questions....

thanks!

Umm, Roslyn... "I MOVED, BECUASE IN THE END ALL JC IS A PLACE WITH NO IDENTITY. " ???

I have no idea who you are or how you can make that kind of statement about a city that is one of the most diverse cities in the state/nation... what identity are you looking for? There are dozens of communities here in JC that are welcoming to any and everyone...

Getting back to the important discussion, dog poop , went to Morris Canal this weekend for the first time in years to see what all the hubub was about... nice day, fairly crowded with people playing games like volleyball and whiffle ball...

walking towards the water, we found fresh poop (three piles), in about five minutes.... there were seven dogs there. only was on a leash. One off leash dog was a well behaved beautiful brindle greyhound that was running like bonkers with it's owner. Really lovely to watch... having said that, if a little bunny had come out of the bushes, that dog probably would've sped off into the distance after it!

Scientific conclusion? I dunno. I don't like dog poop, but I like dogs...

the fines are supposed to be excessive, and the pain in the butt of a mandatory court appearance is excessive as well, and they are done to act as a deterrent!

Obiviously, people ignore the laws (my dog deserves to be off leash), so if a simple law of the land doesn't work, then yeah, give it a nasty fine, and a court appearance. Maybe next time the dog owner will think twice.

And as for drinking on a stoop - for nearly ten years we sit on my stoop almost nightly with a drink, when the weather is nice. The cops have never said a word about it.

Similiarly, when we were having problems with the residents of a house on our block, and they would be all sitting on the stoop drinking beer - the police told us there was nothing they could do, that the people were not breaking any laws....

Craigslist and eBay. I found one on Craigslist a few years ago - a nice little Chickering... It's old and needs a tune up - but it's lots of fun. Found it (thru Craigslist) from a consignment shop a few towns west of JC, then hired piano movers to get it here...

"small, harmless dog" is simply not the case.

I have a 14 year old chihuahua who's been going to the same vet for his entire life. still, as much as he loves the vet and the associates, every time he's there, they muzzle him.

They have frequently told us that they get bitten / aggresive behavior more from small dogs than large dogs...

Just my two cents....

when we bought in the Heights, we were told by the Tax Assessor that our taxes would hold at $2,500 per year for five years. We believed him. Within a few years we were up to $6K annually, and now, almost a decade later, are at more than $7K....

Yeah, so many people on this board complain about it, and I just don't get it. I like it. Every one of the (dozens) of people and families we've had come and visit over the past year have gone there and been impressed.

As for blocking the view? Whatever. The park is huge. Move twenty yards to the left, your view is fine.

Hey Sam!
We are in the Heights on New York between Congress and South, and we love it. We now have a young son (3) and don't ever plan on leaving. There are lots of great blocks around us, parks, and very active community groups. Also, if you want restaurants/other nightlife options, hoboken is a five minute walk away.... Send me a private message and tell me what you're looking for, and I can offer advice!

MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS - Hoboken Parade Tonight
#90
Home away from home
Home away from home

I know most people just think of Memorial Day as a time for BBQ and the beach, but please take some time to remember what it's actually about.

A local event is tonight in Hoboken - their annual parade - starts at 6:30 on Washington Street by City Hall and goes north to 12th... It's a good time.

http://www.hobokennj.org/2013/05/memorial-day-parade-3/

Anyone have any other local events to promote?
