Re: Special Elections in N.J for U.S. Senator

Christie needed to make a special election. If he would have appointed a Democratic moderate or a GOP senator, he would have lost votes in November.

NJ is a state with 700k more Dems than GOP'ers... To appoint a GOP in place of a very popular dem senator would have been a political nightmare for Christie.

He's smart in leaving the decision up to the people!

(He still doesn't have my vote- veto a minimum wage hike, sign into law a tax break for the wealthy, "increase school funding" by $1 to many districts to average out the increased funding given to Newark by Zuckerberg.... not my type of leader!)

Is this your biggest concern in JC? Barking dogs at 3AM? What about the gunshots and police sirens and other general city noises at 3AM? We live right outside "the city that never sleeps" and as a result, the 6th borough never sleeps either.

What a joke! Its an urban environment. If you don't like noise (or cannot adjust to it), move to the sticks....

I see you are newbie, Welcome to JClist where whine is served 24 hrs a day.

Hahahaha...Ive actually been reading the blog for about a year but I just registered this past weekend.

As a person who has lived in the NYC area for 28 of my 30 years on earth, the following pisses me off:

1. The gentrification of the neighborhoods and people who are not native to the area; do not understand the area; and do nothing but bitch and complain when they begin to somehow consider themselves "locals" because all of their neighbors are also not real "locals".

2. THIS IS NOT THE SUBURBS. That should be apparently clear when moving to JC on Day 1.

3. All urban environments have noise 24/7- from Chicago to LA, Miami and especially the biggest and best city in the US, NYC. Deal with it!

4. Barking dogs vs. loud, drunken hipsters! Enough said!

I'm sorry for your troubles, but Journal Square is not a good place for a woman to live or walk around alone. Everybody I know has had problems there. It has many more years to go before it could be considered safe. Maybe the new mayor will change things, but I wouldn't hold your breath. Move downtown close to Grove St, Exchange Place or Newport if you want to live in peace.

Only somebody that's not from the city (or its surrounding area) would say that JSQ is not a safe neighborhood.

I grew up in Brooklyn and have lived in JSQ for 5 yrs. You don't really know crime from the days before gentrification!

I'm not trying to offend you. Just trying to explain that just because JSQ isn't a hipster neighborhood with rich, young professionals, doesn't make it an unsafe area.
