Back office workers will be in NJ while executive offices will remain in Manhattan.

I suspect that the 5th Avenue location has appreciated so much they are going to cash in and sell it to a developer.

CEO Mike Perlis gave the word but said the company is looking for ?strategically located office space in Manhattan to serve as a New York office.?
Perlils said the new HQ lease, arranged by the LeFrak Organization, is at 499 Washington Blvd. in Jersey City.

Don't think it will be back offices. Looks like Forbes will be JC based.

That's the biggest issue I have had for this place. I love the fact they are in the heights but $125 is steep but then again its understandable. I would definitely do it sometime in the future for a night out. Just wish they had a few affordable options so I could frequent the place. I feel like I can only go here once in a blue.

Wouldn't I be heading into Manhattan? Isn't this article really condescending to visitors? Maybe we should have tee shirts printed up: I Was Five Minutes From One of the Greatest Cities in the World, But I Chose To Eat at the Food Court at Newport Mall.

OH, and how about toning down the subjects - is this really the WORST article? This reminds me of a VERY rich friend or an IMPRESSIVE new restaurant.

And this is the point I've made countless times. Give people reason to come here as opposed to Manhattan. Time and time again people here prove they are proud to just be a bunch of kisses to NYC and just let NYC get everything and back down at every idea that would bring people here. The whole point is to make THIS city a destination. Obviously a few night clubs, or whatever other forms of entertainment you can think of, won't bring people in droves but I really am tired of people just giving up with their only reasoning being "because NYC".

But yea he really only got #6 right.

What about Surf City and that Beer Hall? Why the #OOPS# would we want clubs? Doesn't anyone remember when they had that club under the TPK/1-9 Ramp? Just brought dangerous drivers and drunks making their way through quiet, residential streets. Jersey City has everything in the way of bars, restaurants and clubs. Just use them and stop thinking that more of the same is helpful to this city or just move to Hoboken, NYC or New Orleans.

Uh uh uh... to have fun. This city lacks any real night life even smaller cities have a better night life than JC and whether you like it or not nightlife is an integral part of living in a city even if the city bills itself as being "chill". People like to go and have fun something I doubt you know anything about. People would rather spend a night out in their own city rather than have to take a train or bus, into another city, which stop operating long before the typical closing hours for most clubs. Restaurants and a few bars won't do. If you want people to be as bored with life as you are then I highly suggest you move to West Bubble Fuk, Indiana.

My partner and I are beyond grateful for all the advice. Seriously.

We're seeing a lot of homes we like in the Riverview section of the Heights as someone has pointed out, but also find the gym selection (according to Yelp) to be disappointing. Still, it seems there are some options within a 15 minute walk to Hoboken. I am concerned about walking around late at night in this area, which is something for us to think about as we'll likely be out late in the city once in awhile.

I'll be visiting at the end of the month to check both JS and the Heights out to get a feel for the areas before we contact realtors.

Oh, and though we're bringing our car, we are f*ing stoked to not have to drive it much and plan to keep it parked in our future home's garage/pkng space most of our time.

Thanks again, everyone. Please continue to advise as I plan to check this thread through my visit.

Great tips, thank you.

We will definitely be bringing our car from Seattle, so maybe that'll help getting around the area if we choose the Heights (which I'm definitely intrigued about after all the feedback).

I will have lots of meetings in the city, both in Midtown as well as Downtown, so I'm not sure if that still means the Heights is a good option for us.

Also, cliche, I know, but our five year plan is to have a kid in tow and it seems the proximity to Hoboken schools (which look like they fare better than JC schools) also makes the Heights more attractive.

Thanks for the help once again, everyone!

Oh if you're bringing a car the Heights would be a better option. J.sq is ridiculous when it comes to parking, unless you find a place with a driveway/garage.

Free of harassment. That has a yes and no answer. Won't be free of harassment up there but I doubt it wil be because you are gay but then again J.sq overall is not as open minded as downtown yet.

Re: JC Schools
#85
Home away from home

Not all public schools are bad in the city. A few in the heights actually provide a fairly good education overall. Same in downtown. The biggest problem comes from high school where most of the problems persist in the school system. I spent my entire elementary and high school years in JC, went to #27 which wasn't a bad school but lacked any A/C and sometimes heat but I learned there nonetheless.

High school is a different story. Oh how I wish I could get my high school years back and go somewhere else. Everything you can find wrong with a school I found in Dickinson.Went three years only on Algebra and not because I failed the classes.

The one thing we could look forward to is more and more families are moving to JC. With this increase their will eventually be more demand for changes that improve the whole education system.

Edit: I may have to retract my system apparently. #27 seems to rank at 4. Never thought it was that bad, maybe a 6 at most.

There is. Is it as easy as downtown? No but there are numerous buses that can take you around most of the city and Manhatten if need be.

If the public bus service were adequate, all the private jitneys would not be needed to duplicate bus routes.

They follow two routes. A third if needed but it doesn't run much.

Although I do have to agree with others that the Heights needs an actual train stop of at least another light rail line added on that runs through JC with stops in the Heights but that is as likely as me marrying Emma Watson.

Born and raised in the heights and I can tell you it has changed and will keep changing. The thing about the Heights is it won't be a major success story as downtown. Its fairly easy to get into manhatten from the heights use the dollar vans and takes only 20 mins, 40+ during rush hour. The heights can make it "big" but that depends on the success of J.sq. I have already seen an influx of people from Hoboken and downtown move up because it is the closest section to both areas that is relatively safe and affordable.

What makes you think men are not doing just that, most men I know either like fit women or big curvy women... and some are even chubby chasers... just like height it is a preference. I think the point of the article is that JC women are not as shallow as NYC women and look beyond the height.
