oh, my bad. forgive the snark. I didn't realize there was one in the park.

well, I wouldn't sweat it. I don't think there's too much gross stuff emanating from the trains. just heat, mostly.

There's a tower in the park that I was thinking about. And it's venting all the car fumes...that's my paranoid thought process at least.

It's just hot air, right? It's not like they're running coal-fired trains from the 1860's down there. Everything's electric.

And isn't it quite a way from the shore line?

Exactly, ventilation tunnel. If you look at it closely, about 3/4 the way up it there are carved figures of PATH cars. They're actually knind of nice.

Do you think our kids are breathing in any of that when they play in the park or is it too high to affect them?

I think the ferry is probably the go-to option, though I believe there is an environmental concern, regarding erosion near the terminals that has been cited before and that would need to be addressed first.

Not really sure where the current thinking on that is.

This is a NYT article from a few years ago, talking about NY's goal of eliminating the gates. Only 13 more years to go. yippee.

Newport Ferry Terminal

Anybody know which agency/authority shut down the Newport ferry terminal, and what state it was in beforehand? Or what (if any) plans exist to replace/renovate it?

I actually don't have any skin in the game on this, actually.. I mostly use the path, and maybe the paulus hook one, once in a while. Just curious.

I like the paintings of the art-deco drawings of the DTJC skyline in Jon's Pizza. I end up staring at them for a few minutes every time I sit.

I use EasyTransit for PATH by Anomaa . Its great for when you're going down the escalator at WTC and need to see which train is going to get to Exchange Place first. Ha.

Outside of methodically examining and repairing the entire building as needed, (which is certain to be cost prohibitive) are there any other alternatives to the netting/scaffolding they have now?

Its interesting how intricate the facade is actually.. seems like it has all sorts of different features. I guess it shouldn't be completely beyond the realm of thought that this could be an issue that came up.

they are actually expanding into that garage area next door also. Could be a pretty folksy and fun dining experience if they hit all their marks!

Does anyone happen to know what this scaffolding is for, and if it is a permanent part of the landscape now?
It sounds like its been there for a little less than three years.. so I guess it is?

huh. would be nice if... you know.. at least rhetoric wise you could pretend your guy was someone who works with residents, solves problems, has a vision and executes on it.

Hey JClisters,

So DeCarlos is my main man for most of my alterations, but he is booked for at least 4 weeks, and I'm trying to get a suit tailored for a wedding in 2 weeks.

I don't know if I trust Daniel to tailor a nice suit. Should I? I bring my pants to him to be hemmed (in fact I am picking up 3 pairs from Daniel tomorrow). Not sure that he is good for anything other than simple alterations...a suit requires a really good eye and lots of attention to detail.

I need a tailor who has DeCarlos' attention to detail, but is not backed up for more than 2 weeks. I have read this thread, but not sure if any of the tailors mentioned fit this description. Is Tailor's Touch trustworthy, or more of a quick in and out, hemmed pants kind of place?

I get everything done at Alterations to Go on Washington near Sussex. Michelle is great. It is usually just pants hemmed, and the waist adjusted, but my girlfriend goes there for practically everything she needs mended/adjusted/whatever.

In the end, this bridge getting washed away was probably a blessing in disguise. That old footbridge was a tetanus shot waiting to happen.

Great - it's about time!! It doesn't look like ANY prep work has started, but that should only be a few days work and several more to put the bridge in place and install it. Hopefully it will be ready in 2 -3 weeks.

It's disappointing/frustrating that this and the rest of LSP - the walkway is STILL not completely open - 6 months after the storm.
