I highly recommend A&K Carpet and Upholstery. The owner, Jay, is very honest and hardworking and really knows his stuff when it comes to cleaning. Since it's a small business, you aren't paying overhead.

He's done wonders for some major problems of mine and I know he professionally handles jobs big to small.

I am very interested in this topic as well. We recently had to take our one year old son to the ER from his doctor in Hoboken. I didn't know where to go, but they sent me to the Hackensack Pediatric Hospital. The drive wasn't the worst in the middle of the day, but I can imagine it being almost impossible during rush hour.

The care was adequate. He was examined in the triage room immediately. It then took over an hour to be brought in to an ER room and a couple more hours to be examined. However, the doctor was good and they seemed to care. They figured out what was wrong by testing for things the pediatrician never did.

Overall seems very clean and I liked that its was a pediatric center. Still, we are trying to figure out where is close that we would go in a real emergency. We keep coming back to the idea of just going into Manhattan where some of the best hospitals in the world are located. Especially if its for something where we'll be admitted.

Mantra Indian

I've got to throw up some feedback on Mantra Indian (on Washington St across from the post office). I've eaten there a few times and the food is very decent but very slow service.

Last night I ordered delivery. They told me 25 minutes to an hour (which is already a large window). Food came an hour and 45 minutes later! No apology or anything.

The food was very good (and hot, which indicates it really took that long to make), but is it normal to wait this long for Indian?

I haven't been a big fan of Amiya, so I don't know what other options exist for Paulus Hook/Downtown. We used to order from a place called Canteen which took forever to deliver as well, but we chalked this up to them being in Journal Square.

A bunch of us dog owners and parents got together and cleaned up the Morris Canal annex section on Sunday. Many passer-bys chipped in. I won't write the name of the hero who organized it in case it turns out that it's illegal to clean a park or something but it wasn't Texel.

But let me say - the crap that washed up onto that little strip of land was epic. The next time I see someone toss trash into the Hudson, I think I'm going to make them jump in and fish it out!

cabeza? that's bold. I'm glad taqueria is up and running. I decided to check them out a few days ago (sans the vegetarian wife...sorry taqueria, but you are not veg friendly) and it looked pretty bad.

The Paulus Hook restaurants (lighthorse, Amelia's, Satis, etc) are all up and running. Lighthorse told me they never even lost power.
