If you want to get into some serious arguments with people. Try crossing and enforcing your right of way on Monmouth between Newark Ave to 6th Street.

You could train as a stunt devil avoiding cars there. I am not talking about how Hoboken people cross the street (they think they have the right of way like 10 feet from the curb there). You can be in the middle of the street crossing and they will honk and scream at you.

Brunswick between Newark and Columbus is the same -- people are almost to Columbus to get to the Turnpike -- and they floor it down to the light. Insanity.

This makes me giggle. 'Cause if you REALLY want to see a parade of patrol cars and other city vehicles roll through a stop sign -- hang out at the corner of Brunswick and 2nd Street any given weekday at lunch time ... as they hit 2nd Street bakery. All basic traffic laws apparently do not apply when jockeying for a delicious sandwich. ;)

Growing up in Elizabeth, I remember, as a young/school-aged child in the mid-to-late '70s, all the retail stores on Broad Street being open one weeknight late, until maybe 9 or so -- and that my mom would oftentimes schedule a shopping outing on that weeknight. Hah, it was an "event" when we would go, I remember the fun energy -- um, now that I think about it, it probably helped make me the life-long shopoholic that I am. But I digress. In any event, I think that would totally work on Newark.

So -- um -- as a girlie-girl with absolutely no handy skills -- seriously, none -- piggybacking on this thread with a "second" of the question -- does anyone know of a reliable handyman? I really need to periodically hire somebody to come in and handle all sorts of stupid stuff I prefer not to deal with myself. Whether I should be able to or not ;)

We call him "Balls" -- 'cause as I understand it, when my friends moved into their apartment on Columbus a few years ago - he was hanging out -- um, generally -- and his private parts, literally.

He's never been aggressive in my presence. So far, at least.

I have, however, been propositioned by the shopping cart couple on more than one occasion -__-

Light rail was one of my favorite moments of watching my boyfriend acclimate to Jersey City.

"Who do I give my ticket to?
"It's the honor system, babe. For real."
"Wait ... um, wait ... WHAT?"

It freaked him out.

I always feel like such a goody-goody buying my ticket -- I swear I don't think I've ever seen anyone else use the machines at Harismus Cove or the 9th St station in Hbken, the two stops I frequent.

"... but even more important, spell "Internet" as it should be. Notice the capitol "I" since we're referring to a proper noun."

I don't have a dog in your 2nd Amendment fight at present ... but I have to interject with a big peeve:

If you're going to pompously correct someone's grammar/word form or usage on an internet message board (it's an adjective and properly lowercase there -- not the proper noun form, btw) -- you should really make sure your own verbal/word skills are in order.

It's "capital" with an "a." "Capitol" with an "o" is, essentially, the building or the seat of a governmental body.

It jut aggravates me.

Later, gators.

That's the thing. Jonathan and the staff seem to be doing THEIR thing, without trying too hard -- and inviting us to join them. I love that.

My Brooklyn-via-Harlem transplant boyfriend would love to play locally -- he goes into NY to play pickup at his old spots or plays with the youngins' occasionally at HPark -- and was just bemoaning the lack of grownup basketball around these parts.

Do it!

So I live down the block from this place -- and I have to admit I'm kind of enjoying and intrigued by their tongue-in-cheek, silly name, two-dollar taco, all caps message board posting, inappropriate movie poster, laid back, not taking themselves oh so seriously vibe.

Just me? Mmmkay ... eh, then again, I'm, by nature, a cheerful, easy going sorta girl.

All the controversy on this site is sort of amusing. I'm gonna grab a six-pack and the boyfriend, drag him down the street ... and check them out this week.

Lula is a genius with color -- and Gia really, really, really (really) knows how to cut curly hair. I tried several different places when I moved to DTJC -- hey, my hair is my identifier, I'm picky -- and this is where I stopped my search.

And for what it's worth, I've been charged the same consistent amount for my services (single process color with pull through -- sometimes with curly cut, no blow-out; sometimes without) each and every time.

@Pebble -- their website menu indicates they do men's services: http://www.mytousledhair.com

The vanilla almond coconut fudge awesomeness I tried yesterday -- with the irish cream latte on the side ... let's just say I'm going to be looking for an extra Zumba class every week with this new addition to my neighborhood. But I'm not mad at them! Both were great.

I'm not really sure. You can haggle a little bit. I tend to ask how much before I take the taxi. A few times the drivers replied 20 .... or even one said 25 on a rainy night. Then I call them crazy, and let the person behind me take the cab and hit up the next one. Once, the 20-dollar guy came down to 15. And on one occasion, I was feeling cheeky, having a tight week, and there were a bunch of cabs so they were slow ... and I affirmatively asked, listen, can you take me to X address for 10 bucks? And she did.

Edit: Oh, interesting. Thanks for that -- now I will haggle on a more informed basis! :)

Average of 12-16 bucks, Hoboken Path to the village section of DTJC. I do it all the time coming home after late-night rehearsals.

I've been to the Hoboken location on several occasions. The uniforms or lack thereof scantily clad waitstaff are a bit annoying and sort of stupid. It doesn't offend my feminist principles too badly, though.

I am amused that the male bartenders -- who seem very nice -- wear kilts.

I'm a sports nut -- and they do a decent job as a "sports bar."

Food is average chain stuff.

Crowd in HBoken is mostly your average 20-to-30-something professional white guy out with his buddies only semi-on-the-prowl. But whether that's just Hoboken or the bar itself, who knows.

Basically I want JC to continue being perceived as "scary" or really hard to get to by the type of people who see NYC as a luxury playground/shopping mall, because it keeps it cheaper and interesting. People are talking about JC's lack of national reputation like that is a bad thing. Sleeper towns are usually the best balance of everything; once a place is having it's "moment" that's the death rattle.

Yes, yes, yes! My Park Slope born-and-bred "all Brooklyn" boyfriend recently moved in with me, to DTJC, relocating from a few years in Harlem -- he admits he never thought he'd live anywhere but in NYC itself, preferably BK (but of course, he now can't afford to live where he grew up) -- and much to his own surprise, he constantly marvels at how much he really likes JC -- the urban conveniences and melting pot atmosphere and easy commute, coupled with the quieter/more chill vibe of his new home. I keep admonishing him NOT to let his friends in BK and Harlem in on the secret. I say let everyone over there keep thinking JC is lame and inconvenient.
