yup. lots of pedestrians walk right into oncoming traffic against their signals.

actually, when you think about it, people blowing red lights is a lot less common than people deciding to cross against their signals and then making that "i am a pedestrian you should stop for me" face.

in general, i have no problem obeying traffic laws and looking out for pedestrians.

what i do have a problem with is the growing number of parents who think its okay to use their baby stroller as a traffic director by pushing it out into the crosswalk, or worse the middle of the street.

if you use your child as a battering ram for a few tons of steel, you probably shouldn have one...

i think pink already covered that previously (no). what is important here though is the fact that "those classists" are attempting to starve the baby-bangers. that is good, because one might slip thru the cracks and take my unborn child's spot at yale.

no they won't. they all have trust funds and they didn't come all the way from bumblefcuk, new mexico to tell all of their old friends that they now live in jersey city.

nah, it's the stockbrokers that we have to worry about.

i dunno...

before i moved into my place i was told that there was a rash of break-ins a year prior, particularly on the morris/warren block.

have not seen or heard of any crime besides dumpster divers looking for copper pipes and that one random mugging this spring.

the break-in should definitely have been addressed, but as i have noticed, many people believe that the management company is responsible for many things that it is not such as arranging tax payments for condo owners, etc.

i agree with the idea that they *should* turn the powerhouse into something exciting culturally. if Cordish develops the property than what we have to look forward to is the renovation of the powerhouse into a structurally sound building, with some unfortunate neon.

what is probably the most important thing is that they are not going to knock down the building. period.

hopefully, the idea of a mixed use property will float, and it will be used somewhat to the effect of southstreet seaport, or similar retail spaces which also offer art shows, concerts, etc.

jersey city as a destination spot would be nice, but i think that you will agree that we have a long way to go before that happens, and this situation, although not the ideal for most of us here, it is alot better than having a crumbling and old, albiet beautiful powerhouse knocked down to make some crappy condos.

btw sorry if i insulted anyone with my "very jersey" comment. i think the "jersey" people understand what i mean...

seen route 17 lately?

the stripmall evolving; becoming urbanized.
the stores/retail concepts they are trying to present are not all "jersey" in flavor, but capitalizing on unused space by turning it into a retail/commerce option is totally "jersey". there are so many examples of this, but if you would like me to point out a few i could...

Note to jersey journal: do some research and get yr names right it is CORDISH, not kordish.

anywhoo...
this was posted the last time the powerhouse development project was talked about. ladies and gentlemen meet thee cordish developers.

look at what they have done with the baltimore powerhouse project. the city is looking for revenue and job creation, and sadly not a major arts and cultural center, but its fitting for a second-string city, and very, very jersey.

good job! now let us use the money for good, and not evil!

the hotel tax should not be that big of an issue for the hotels as many tourists prefer to stay in JC because they can go to a nice hotel and still enjoy NYC in an affordable way.

::shrugs::

i havent been to iris yet, but then i havent been one to *buy* music as of late, relying more on live shows, radio and my friends to introduce me to new bands.

to most i would suppose the biggest impact WFMU makes on jc as a local force, would be their irregular yard sale. i would volunteer if it fit into my schedule.

another thing i love about jc--the siperstein's paint can!
