Don?t let the fog deter you from visiting our farmers? market today. We have three new vendors to try. One has a tomato garlic oil (which is amazing), another carries four flavored fresh mozzarellas, and ModCup has joined us with their micro brewed coffees.

Come say hello, and see VVP in bloom.

Yes, we are talking about how ?good or bad she is or was?, not about Healy?s ?possible? favors. You are making assumptions, of which, you have no proof, and adding this ?cloud? to her reputation does not diminish her accomplishments

In the many years that I have known and interacted with Maryanne, I have never seen a political motive behind her support. Her actions came from wanting to make your event successful, organized, and rewarding.

To wrap this around political motivation demeans all the great work she has done over many years, even before being part of a Healy administration. She has tirelessly tried to make Jersey City a place to be proud of, with its diversity and many community organizations.

If Mayor Fulop wants to replace her with ANOTHER campaign supporter, it?s his prerogative, but please don?t let this take away from all the good work she has done over the years.

Maryanne will be missed by many.

K-Lo, you will be very satisfied.

Went there on the first ?soft opening? night and was very pleased with the new design, lighting, and level of service. I?ve been at this marina for 27 years, and we finally have a restaurant that is equal to the venue.

The owners were very engaging, aware of some of the glitches that bothered us, and had plans to correct these minor complaints. The atmosphere is very relaxing and inviting, unlike the cold and sterile feeling of the previous attempts by the last three ?restaurateurs?.

The menu is seafood oriented but has some meat and vegan options. The pricing is on par with 30 Acres, with interesting flavor combinations, although not quite as refined. The fish dishes were perfectly cooked and the potions were generous.

They have a very interesting wine selection, with pours that are much better than most equally priced restaurants and at very fair prices, which is unusual with this quality of food.

They have two bars on the south side of the dinning areas that have views of lower Manhattan and the Battery. Not sure whether they are going to have seating outside during the summer, but hope they will.

The only thing that may become an issue is that they intend to use the main dinner room as a wedding or other special event option. There may be weekends where the restaurant may be closed and you?ll need to call first to see if they are open to the public.

There is limited parking on the dock, but it?s an easy walk from the Pavonia Path station.

I highly recommend that you support this new effort, even if it?s only for your ?special occasion? go-to, or just for a drink?I really hope this one is successful.

Bcgirl99, I don?t know who you are, but I?d like to thank you for posting this request.

Since 1993 we have donated or raised over $235,000 for Van Vorst Park to plant every garden, build the dog run, add lawns, fencing, sprinkler systems, sponsor events, and maintain the park. Most of these funds have come from our own pockets and we?d be most appreciative for any help, either monetary or physical, in continuing the improvement and maintenance of this volunteer community effort.

Hey parkman,

What are your best tools for removing graffiti?

I've heard WD-40 works on metal, I don't have a pressure washer so not sure what would take it off of sidewalks, and I'm assuming only painting over will work on the gazebo, etc. Also heard the magic erasers might work?
We use a graffiti removal spray from Home Depot if it's on a painted or small hard surface, and we bought a pressure washer for larger areas.

In the last few years, graffiti has been a rare occurrence since we started to take care of it ourselves as soon as it happened.

The Parks Department is not responsible for the removal of graffiti, that falls to the JCIA. Call Crystal Fonseca at 201 432-4645.

If you are willing to take it on as we do in VVP, removing it as some as possible sends a message that it won't be tolerated, and I can tell you from years of dealing with this, it works.

I highly recommend Sernio?s on Communipaw and Mallory. I brought my SUV to them after someone sideswiped me while I was parked overnight on the street. They not only charged me a thousand dollars less then my car dealer quoted, the car came back completely detailed, inside and out, and the workmanship on the repair was excellent. They are a very professional business and know what good customer sevice means.

All of the below are true; talented artist, Russian, feeble, loving, old, and lonely. In the four years he has been interacting with us in VVP, I?ve never witnessed the perverse behavior that?s been described here, but don?t doubt that it may have occurred.

I?ve never seen him be aggressive, only his desire to try and relate what are mostly repetitive stories, phrases, and at times, we try to avoid contact because we know we?re going to be enjoined with same.

I?m really sad to hear of this behavior, which is new to us, for he has been very appreciative of what we do in VVP, and apologetic when he feels he gone on too long?he?s always seemed quite harmless, though a little bit off.

Unless he becomes physical (period.), inappropriately verbal or suggestive after you have asked him to stop, I ask that you have some sympathy for this troubled soul.

Below is his handiwork around Van Vorst Park during the months of May and June of this year. I have a picture of who we think is the author but it?s only based on coincidental evidence?he?s been seen at each location where the graffiti appears. I went up to him one day and asked if he would keep an eye out for a person that was writing some very disturbing things all over the park, and that the police were looking for him too. He has never been back to the park. I must say though, he has a pretty broad vocabulary and certainly spells better than I do. Re: An open letter to the Dog Owners of DTJC (brace yourselves)
#88
Home away from home
Home away from home

I was going to refrain from engaging in this thread but I?d like to give the perspective of someone who is trying to maintain one of our public parks.

Van Vorst Park was deeded in 1835 by the Van Vorst family as a passive park and was to be a respite from the clamor of everyday life. In 1999, the Friends of VVP, the State of New Jersey, and the City of Jersey City, renovated a neglected park (except for the drug addicts), and renovated it back to the garden designs of Peter Henderson that were planted in 1851.

During the last 14 years there has been a slow progression from anarchy by dog owners, whose off-leash dogs destroyed all the new lawns that were planted during the 1.6 million dollar renovation, to the addition of the first dog run in a public park downtown, two pet fee lawns (paid for by private funds, including irrigation), and the gradual compliance with the leash laws and cleaning up after their pets.

The issue today, is that a hand-full of dog owners continue to knowingly flaunt the ordinances that prohibit off-leash use at any time except in a designated area such as a dog run (it?s not OK because you dog is ?friendly?, or it?s early in the morning, it?s winter, or that you ?only obey the rules that you want?, or to be on a pet free lawn because your dog is ?dry?),

I can?t tell you how many times there have been issues where an on-leash dog tries or succeeds in breaking loose from its owner to pursue an off-leash dog, sometimes with harmful results. Or, where an off-leash dog frightens a small child or runs into the street and been hit by a car?I?m sure these were all ?friendly and obedient pets?.

It?s frustrating after all the work trying to make VVP a special place in Jersey City, to have dog owners, either knowingly or not, use the park or the dog run as a toilet. It?s not pleasant to mow the lawns and have dog feces go flying because someone was not aware of what there dog was doing. The side lawns are burnt by dog urine and will not recover, plants along the walkways are dying for the same reason?curbing your dog before entering the park would help.

If dog owners want to change or alter the ordinances on the books, go before the city council and seek new rules. Until then, please obey what is in place and understand the consequences of doing otherwise.

I?m not trying to diminish other quality of life issues or to elevate this one.

I always wait for drivers, half of the drivers wait for me. Annoying little intersection.
