They were here a few years ago when crime picked up.

No one remembers that.

They made no impact what so ever.

After a short time they just faded away.

It's about face time on the news.

No one remembers that.

You'll see I'll be right, again.

Though they may have had a limited presence here in the past, I think this is the first time they're seriously considering a local chapter here in JC. But judging from your posts its kind of obvious you're a JC police officer or somehow officially connected to them, so this kind of response is expected. Usually the most vocal opponents to their presence are the local police departments. I don't knock the police officers and I kind of feel like a lot of people here are very quick to jump on their case, but I do feel that they're only as effective as their management- like any organization- and the management here is terrible. The GA coming here, coupled with Fulop's very public calls for change in the department's management structure, should get things moving along for the better, and hopefully throughout the whole of Jersey City and not just Downtown.

It's more than obvious the councilman has greater ambitions. I see this as nothing more than using a bad situation to gain personal acclaim.

my mind is blown.

if a politician screws up, it's business as usual.

if s/he does something good/productive, it's grandstanding/building a base for future office.

can any politician EVER do anything right?

i don't understand how you can see this as "nothing more than using a bad sitaution to gain personal acclaim". isn't this exactly what our public servants are supposed to do?...hold people accountable and make efforts for change?

if steve has "greater ambitions", more power to him and i'll be first in line to volunteer for his campaign. i've seen him in action, and we need people like him in higher levels of office.

well said. my mind is blown as well.

even if he WAS grandstanding, at whose expense was it? since his call for the chief to step down we've seen some notable changes that Steve mentioned, as well as a lot of media coverage on local gov't and crime in JC. this is surely lighting a fire under some people's arses and i see that as a good thing for everyone.

its clear that some people are just predispositioned to oppose most anything and everything he does, even if its for the good of everyone.

Another 2 cents and another couple of steps away from the real topic of this thread...

I have met a few really sweet pitbulls and have fortunately never had a run-in with an aggressive one. But, my understanding of the American Temperament Test is that it really tests a dog's ability to distinguish when its appropriate or not to express aggressive, protective or defensive behavior, not really whether or not the dog has it in him to be aggressive. Its also important to distinguish the amount of damage a pitbull can inflict compared to say, a golden retriever, which has a lower average score on the ATT (not sure if that's a fact, I haven't checked but assume you have). Whereas an aggressive golden retriever would tend to bite and let go or bite and hold to restrain, pit bulls are programmed to inflict the maximum amount of damage and will not hesitate to do so. Pitbulls also have an extremely high tolerance to pain and will fight until exhaustion. We should be cognizant of what this means for someone who sets off the aggression in a pit bull as opposed to a golden retriever or beagle when we go touting the pit bulls ATT score.

Good point...

This is insane. I'll be writing in. Just seems kind of strange that he'd be so bent out of shape about losing a temporary position like that. Especially with 30 years as the Animal Control officer, I'd think that he'd be looking forward to retirement in the near future.

Solely, calling for the Police Chief's resignation is not a solution, next Fulop will be calling for Mayor Healy's resignation which is not a solution..... nor would recalling Fulop be a solution (as many do suggest on the www.getnj.com message board).

Unless I was reading the wrong message board, I counted a whopping one person calling for Fulop's resignation on the www.getnj.com message board, and that was most likely yourself. True, there were not many people on that message board that are fans of Fulop, that's for sure. But what I read were rather angry and unintelligent posts by people who believe that if you didn't grow up in JC than you should have no say in JC politics and shouldn't be posting on "their" message board. Clearly the "old school" when it comes to local politics. The fact that Fulop is pissing these characters off only makes me support him more.

Fulop for Mayor!

This guy is great, really. I'm continually impressed by the dedication and effort he puts forth. Its great to have someone working for us who shakes things up and gets things done, and his accessibility and transparency is commendable.

Keep up the good work.

This place is great, and one of the few places I've been able to find good cinnamon ice cream. Its unbelievable by itself, with apple pie or on a warm brownie.

I'd have to agree with the constructive criticism that they need sturdier "to go" pint containers. I have sent many a spoon through the current cheap styrofoam containers.
