The apartments in the story below are for the general market. The whole west campus development is a public-private venture. There will be some classrooms and student housing, some market-rate housing and shops open to everyone.

Tax appeal against tax assessor's property can proceed

Wolosky's case against Holenstein is believed to be the first of its kind in Sussex County, and one of the first statewide, involving a tax appeal by a private citizen against a government official.

He filed the case in April under a little-known statute that allows taxpayers not only to contest their own property tax assessments but also to appeal the assessment on anyone else's property within the same county.

N.J.S.A. 54:3-21(a)(1) states that a taxpayer feeling "aggrieved" by his or her own assessment or "discriminated against" by the assessment on someone else's property in the same county may file an appeal against that person's assessment.

There may be. But it's hard to talk to a handful of people and know what voter sentiment is. Nearly 12,000* people voted. The historic district has, what, 600 homes?

*EDIT: Sorry, that was in the prez race. 4,633 voted in Ward B council race.

Yes, that map is incorrect. Citi Bike people gave that to me but later acknowledged that that Marin Blvd, even though it appear son the map as an existing station, is a new one that is planned, and one of the "new" stations near Berry Lane Park is really just an existing station being moved there. I took the map out of the story once someone alerted me. They don't have a new one quite yet.

Thank you! The Corso video was public so we could get it via a public-records request. From what I understand, this was private security video. If this makes it to trial, we may see it then.

There wasn't a press release. Councilwoman Osborne reached out asking for us to spread the word about the online survey. And I think the $$$ being spent is enough of a reason to write about it even though the resdesign isn't done yet.

There were a few explanations.

When he called it off, he told me that it was because the bid process was corrupt. He called the reval a "backdoor tax" by the Healy admin.

He also argued at the time that since the ratio of assessed-to-true value in the city hadn't led to a lack of development, a reval wasn't necessary.

In a letter he sent to the B.A. after his election as mayor, he mentioned the bid process but also said Hurricane Sandy may have had an impact on property values. He said he was canceling the reval until his admin could investigate all of this. The judge overseeing the reval trial that ended last month said there was no evidence any investigation had taken place.

I believe it will. The city can appeal the state's order. It has 90 days to do so.

The city can appeal and says it will. But I've received no indication from the state that they think the reval case has anything to do with their reval order from last week.
