This is a bad move. Qualification should be the sole criteria.

Very true. The city needs to address the noise problem. Loud motorcycles should be banned on residential streets in the night.

Not sure why you keep bringing race in such discussions. Unless people from rest of the JC feel safe to visit these inner city hoods, you cannot expect them to vouch for these hoods. I visit JSQ a lot without feeling unsafe and have also Lived in the heights and had no issues. It's not DT vs rest of JC as you make it out to be.

Who wants the mega rich to live here. Educated White collar professionals are moving to the area. With all the violent crime that happens there, Greenville and Bergen Lafayette are closer to Newark and Irvington than DTJC.

DTJC is usually grouped with Hoboken in real estate world because of lot of similarities. Both in turn can be considered unofficial boroughs of NYC. Even Weehawken waterfront can be grouped with the two. JSQ is in line to be grouped with DTJC in a few years.

JSQ-33 multiplexes with the most important PATH line - NWK-WTC. They cannot increase the frequency in peak hours without affecting that line. So reducing frequency on HOB-33 line is not a solution. Signal upgrades and longer platforms is. When the PA does something in NY, the Jersey guys demand their share to even it out. They are wasting billions in the new WTC station, so they have to waste some money on this side of the Hudson too. Taking over of AC airport is another example.

Mayor Bloomberg emphasized that the police have focused their efforts at keeping black and Hispanic minorities safe, as they are disproportionally the victims as well as the perpetrators of crime.

I think you are talking about Panasonic in Harrison. They are building their north american headquarters in Newark (th to the governor). Cory Booker is the absentee mayor. His achievements are saving people from burning homes and tweeting about it.

Wow people are still discussing about the abandoned tunnel project. The tunnel is never going to get built, so get over it. Bring more jobs here. Newark and Trenton can be great cities too, but the mindset in NJ is to commute to jobs in NYC and Philly. Develop Newark because we have a real international airpot (with connections to many european and asian countries). Newark also has an amtrak station with a Acela express stop, a light rail/subway system and excellent highway system that does not require people to pay large tolls to squeeze into two lane tunnels and bridges.

Those who say DTJC is not diverse in terms of racke are lying. There are plenty of east and south Asians. The least diverse neighborhood in JC is BL.

I would be happy if the grove st farmers market expands to include more items and all of them organic. They can close off a couple of blocks of Newark ave for the market. We can get much fresher local produce that is environmentally green and having much higher nutrional value than what WF sells. Also organizing such a market 4 days a week would be great.

It depends on what you do in the free time. If all you do in your free time is to post on this board....

Just curious - does anyone use a rough rule of thumb to determine if driving for groceries is more cost effective than walking to neighborhood shops? Personally, I consider my free time worth 1.5 times the equivalent of my roughly calculated hourly wage.

The 162-page report prepared by the people who served on Mayor Steven Fulop?s transition committee was released recently, making a series of recommendations including retraining city employees in how to deal with the public; selling more taxi medallions, and folding the Parking Authority into the Police Department.
