And if the tiles in fact are new, you should give them a good cleaning and take a better picture as the people you would like to attract are probably mistaking the grout for dirt.

Assuming that the ad mentioned by others is yours I can give you the following renter's advice: if adding a bathroom is not feasible, do something about the bedroom (and kitchen) floors! The paint I could see beyond and it's a quick fix even for me as a renter if I have the landlord's blessing but old carpeting is a deal breaker. I bet updating the kitchen tiles would completely alter the ambiance too, those have been there for a while, not so?

Power is back on 7th and Brunswick! I think different arras have different substations and apparently ours were hard hit.

Also, get out there and shake those trees! But seriously, some moderate wind and rainfall should get most leaves down, unless you really feel like sweeping 24/7 I guess.

Some felting would be good, yes. And I agree, roving sounds a little complicated - but it is not a vintage pattern actually. I have knitted a few things in my days, but it's been a while. I'm afraid ravelry etc would suck me into a vortex of time-consuming online research so I figured I could get some quick advice here. I'll have to check out some upcoming shearing festivals or go with something like the Irish relanolized yarn I guess. Thanks again!

I want to use a knitting pattern for a wool diaper cover that calls for wool roving, or if that is not available, "untreated wool yarn". So I guess yarn that has been minimally processed except for the spinning, and still holds a lot of lanolin.

The instructions say "When casting on, you can carry regular cotton sewing thread with the roving if the roving tends to break" so maybe I could use wool intended for spinning, but it sounds a little complicated.

Novice knitter looking for wool roving or untreated wool yarn, but where? Looks like there are two yarn stores in Hoboken, are they any good? What about JC, Bayonne, Manhattan or could somebody recommend a site to order from?
Thanks!

So this happened literally half a block away from the Mr Softee truck that was parked at the 8th Street entrance to Enos Jones Park, with tons of kids around.

I heard screeching tires and a big crash (but no sirens, mind you) and my heart sank, knowing this is an area full of kids going to baseball practice, skateboard or play in the playground.

Luckily no one was hurt but come on, this is just a few weeks after the other Brunswick Street JCPD cruiser incident - which took place half a block away from a very busy school about an hour after school usually starts. I don't think there were any sirens that time either, but can't be sure. http://jclist.com/modules/newbb/viewt ... p?topic_id=26382&forum=10

I think it's time to start going to those Captain's meetings, even though I realize that today's crash involved a PAPD car....

Absurd or not, the fact is that this was - and still is in some places - common practice until 15-20 years ago in many meditarranean countries, especially where tourism picked up and the systems were not dimensioned for other than the local population. In Beijing, this is still common practice since the city sewers can't handle tp.

After my toilet clogged once, I myself was once kindly advised by a Jersey City landlord of North African descent to dispose of toilet paper in a separate trash can.

Which I did not do, and the problem never recurred. The letter sounds absolutely ridiculous but I can't really tell you what to do except maybe consult a lawyer.

If you are talking about the blocks on Summit between, say Jewett and Grand/Communipaw, I think that area is Bergen Hills - or maybe that's a subset of Bergen-Lafayette?

Anyways, for a couple of years I rented a beautiful apartment in a beautiful building on Summit around there but this was seven odd years ago.

My observations from that time: not having a car I ended up walking about 15-20 minutes to Journal Square most of the time. There was a bus stop right outside my house but service was very erratic. The 99S to Port Authority did stop there early mornings though, in those days. Going back home was easier, if no bus appeared at JSQ, there are cabs. Never ever had a problem, used to walk all over the place, even late at night, but my downstairs neighbor, also white 30-something female had issues all the time so I'd say attitude is key here. On the corner of Fairmount and Summit was some kind of looney bin where I made several quite interesting acquaintances.

I moved for different reasons, commuting time was one of them - would not consider moving back to the area unless I had a car - try schlepping a stroller on unshoveled sidewalks all the way to JSQ or Garfield light rail stop in wintertime...

I do miss the air quality up there, downtown gets really bad sometimes in the summer but up on the hill it's much better. Never any flooding issues either.

Curious about the time of the accident? Oh sorry, the accident was today...Still... Walked up the hill on the north side of Newark yesterday around 9.30 and there was a police woman standing right there in the shade of the trees by the gates to Dickinson, texting away like crazy on her cell while I tried to cross Newark because the sidewalk was closed off starting from the gates due to new sidewalk construction.

Another police woman further up by Palisades did help me to cross back to the north side of Newark again...

Actually, you would also have to consider the plumbing in your particular building as water can absorb lead from solder, fixtures, and pipes found in the plumbing of some buildings or homes.

If you are not sure about the quality of your plumbing, always run the tap at least 30 seconds any time water has been standing in the faucet for hours, especially in the morning. Also, always use cold water for cooking or drinking, even after you have run the tap.

In NYC, residents can order a free lead test kit.

Posted this below to the Chromium thread a while ago, I'm still curius if anybody has more info on this aspect of the area. I'm not really worried about my kids going to camp there, signing them up tomorrow, but I would be worried if I was part of the staff working there year in year out, kicking up the dust, inhaling it etc.

"As I was considering signing my kids up for Camp Liberty this summer, I also wanted to check the area in the light of the above, and it seems to me that Cabana Club, i.e. Camp Liberty, i.e. Hudson Chromate Site 178 are one and the same.

I used the NJ-GEOweb http://www.nj.gov/dep/gis/geowebsplash.htm
and searched for Chromium sites.

Am I right that this is where the Camp is located and if so, is this news at all or a well-known fact? Does anybody know more about what the RI-status of this site means (the GeoWeb also says Surface Soil Sampling result in 1992 was 100 ppm, but 100 ppm of what? Hexavalent Chromium or "just" plain old Chromium?), and, since it says responsible party is Allied Signal could that make it part of the Honeywell lawsuit even if the site is Public Land? "
