JC City Hall demonstration last weekend - Oct 22

Does anyone know what the loud shouting was going on last Sunday? I saw lots of muslims gathering and shouting but had no idea what was going on. The shouting was rather scary.

If the couple received city approval prior to the renovation, why won't the city honor the committment? Why would the city insist on a new approval when one has already been provided?

No one is following rules and rules are not being enforced.

i see many drivers who go beyond the speed limit on busy streets in downtown JC (i.e., Columbus, Montgomery). Recently, I even saw one make an illegal right turn on red near the postoffice on Montgomery, whilst a traffic cop was in front of them and cop did not stop or do anything.

I also see dumb pedestrians crossing against the light while busy texting. Those are the inattentive ones who deserve to be hit. Crazy people everywhere.

Good convenient spot for coffee, but nothing sets it apart from other places where you can pick up coffee (Starbucks, Au Bon Pain, Lackawanna, Warehouse, etc.). They only serve pastries, no breakfast sandwiches. Coffee is good though.

I've dismissed this restaurant for a long time in the past as it only served dishes catering to westerners. And, i did not like the idea of a blended thai, japanese, etc... menu. However, with the recent additional dimsum offerings, i skeptically decided to give it a try.

I loved it. It's not as innovative compared to the refined dimsum restaurants in Hong Kong or Vancouver, but rather, it is more old school "cha lou"-style/traditional shrimp and pork dumplings. I was more than well sated, however, as were my other finnicky friends.

Enjoyed it so much, that I've been going there 5 times within the past 2 weeks. Great quality and beats a schlep to chinatown. Plus, it's served all day, so no waiting for weekends. The owner informed me that the newly hired chef, from Hong Kong, is bringing more cantonese styled dishes (menu is being expanded and reprinted). Had the garlic chicken last night (not on menu but on the billboard outside) was reminiscent of Congee Bowery's signature garlic chicken dish. Quite yummy. I'm optimistic about this restaurant now :)

I love the menu at UR. Quality has been very good. Sad to see it go. The times I've been there have been fairly sparse. One would think a restaurant that great would draw people willing to walk a few extra blocks from the main drag.

I like the minimalist look, but was underwhelmed that the whole edifice was 4billion. I guess the infrastructure and building around the working trains was a large part of the expense, but i was hoping for more interesting offerings besides run of the mill shops you can find in soho/ short hills or westchester mall. Nothing really stood out. And the Lacoste display in the middle of the belly looked pretty sad and sterile. And, if I'm not mistaken the only retail was on the 2 levels of the carcass and the passageway to WTC4?

The menu looks awesome! Dishes seem a tad pricier than other local restaurants but I think it's worth giving it a try .

I too hate the idea of the parking deck garage but the residents are losing their parking area and need a place to park their cars and it probably doesn't make sense to build an underground parking area since that area does flood .

I thought they had already closed it for the system upgrades a few years ago. Why are they doing it again???

They closed the WTC line on weekends to reinstall upgraded equipment damaged by Sandy, and to finish the installation of PTC.

They're now closing the other tunnel (33rd St) to install new switching equipment.

The new switches are a federal mandate, and will also let them run more trains.

I agree, it is easier to drive directly there. However, not everyone owns a car. The attendant costs of owning a car (parking, gas, tolls and insurance) is easily 400 or 500 monthly without car payments.

Perhaps this might lend itself to a car pooling situation.

Would taking the train from Hoboken to Secaucus Junction be faster than the train from Newark?

i don't see a problem with other bike companies using a jersey city bike rack. It's not as if it were purchased by Citibike. The racks should be a convenience for all residents/visitors.

But what makes it not a diner? It has all the hallmark dishes. The presentation is a bit better, and the place is brighter and cleaner.

I get my taylor ham, egg and cheese on there frequently, and their corned beef hash is money.

it's awful that restaurants are shuttering... they always seem busy whenever I walk by...perhaps the rent was too high? Might the landlords be asking for more than is reasonable in jersey city?

I heard the same from someone I know, which really took me by surprise and I had discounted as unfounded rumor. The place is always packed, including the basement club/bar. Why would they close?? But, letting their website expire could be a harbinger of things to come.

As someone who lives across the street, I have to disagree with the place always being packed. It does get busy on the weekend but week days have been pretty dead as of late.

Interesting to hear. I have no idea what will fill those two gigantic restaurant spaces. Something like Berg'n would fit the bill. Maybe with some performance space in the basement.

They had a chance to build a station that could accommodate thousands of commuters, allowing for seamless entering and exiting of the cars. Instead it's a mess!
Ever seen the tube station in London? Those tiny staircases, with people going up and down...escalators going the wrong direction..and who picked white???? What a mess!

The white will not age well. It just won't.

And yeah, you have a chance to build a new, super efficient station, a chance to SOLVE actual problems of increased ridership, etc.

And in the finished product you have these tiny narrow staircases going up to the mezzanine level. Complete bottleneck during rush hour. Just asinine and a complete failure.

Shame should be the least thing the designers and planners experience. They should be arrested. The Port Authority should be completely disbanded or removed from transportation entirely.

Agreed about the tiny escalators. Totally nonsensical. Not designed for anyone that would use a subway at all.
