If you also experienced this, know that the owners will remove the brochures for you if you stop by their business. They said I was the fifth person to come in yesterday. I'm pretty sure that they've learned a lesson about putting these on cars.

Sounds like a good scam to get you to come in.

The problem is, you will never stop this in cities. It is gross and I pick up after my dog no matter where it may evacuate its bowels. Unfortunately, it only gets worse with more dog runs as more people get dogs and be irresponsible. Though I've seen people yelling at female dogs urinating thinking they are defecating and then it turns into an ugly situation.

i guess in JC, before you hit on a girl (or grope one?!?!), you have to check to see if she's with an ugly, limp-dick, fobby, scumbag mutant. i truly hope these twats are beaten to a pulp in prison. more likely, they'll be welcome into a gang, become hardened, and then get deported to live in the tropics. so, i wish them guinea worm and a bangkok

Since the story above stated they were being charged with felony murder, I'm assuming the guy died.

Worst logo ever. I'm not sure if it's going to be a "store" via their web site. It almost looks like a warehouse type thing where you place your order, then go pick it up. Sort of like FreshDirect without the delivery part. I hope I'm wrong though.

If they are going to print any kind of description at all, don't omit one of the most obvious characteristics. Printing facts in a paper does not create stereotypes.

I'm not so sure it is the JJ now. They're only printing what the police give them. Which yes, is a joke.

So you mean to tell me that if someone just gets attacked, mugged or whatever, and the only description is "white t-shirt and a hat" that's enough? What about "hispanic male, approximately 5'9", white t-shirt, shorts, tattoos left arm, seen heading north on Erie St., etc? That would be racist I guess right?

No. My point is density population. If there is a never ending stream of customers, like there is here, you are far more likely to be irritated, annoyed, etc. and never get a second to breathe.

I avoid Shop Rite at all costs. I gave it several tries but the folks that have to work there are just beyond rude. I've come out of that store so very depressed. Wish Shop Rite would offer their employees some type of minimal customer service training. It really is beyond words to describe sometimes. The seafood there looks like it has been sitting there for a week. I have no problem with the A&P but yes, that Lower Price Project is a joke. I do most of my shopping at Wegmans in Woodbridge. And for those that will chide " to drive an hour round trip to shop is crazy" I say no it ain't! 30 minutes in the car to get to a store with fantastic fresh food at low prices? No problem! I love Trader Joe's also. One can get great items at low prices. Someone earlier said that Trader's was expensive? Sounds like they don't shop there. Silly. I've never set foot in that C-Town - I've never had the need.

For those that don't have a car Shop Rite is really the only choice. I've never really interacted with the employees of Shop Rite, but they seem to be on par with just about every other grocery store employee I've ever encountered. Do you really think the seafood at A&P is above Shop Rite's? I sure don't. And I'm not saying Shop Rite's is good. I will say one thing. Shop Rite has tons of people in it at all times, and it can make for a tedious experience, but at least you know the items are turning over and not just sitting there. Every time I'm in A&P, it seems near dead to me.

Does every grocery store in an urban environment have to have a parking lot? Hellooo, India street? no parking there, people still come to stock up on food. PUH-lease. Jersey City is a city, remember? half of the people here have granny carts. I even had one, and I had a car too and I used them both (both are RIP now.) It has to do with this area's grocery shopping habits, which are diverse enough to support shoppers who do not require a parking spot. Remember, not everyone in Jersey City drives to go food shopping - this is not suburbia. To be honest, most people in Jersey City that do, I'd rather have them shop elsewhere, *shudders thinking about PathMark on grand*

I think you're missing the point. The main thing is that this area where Trader Joe's would be in (current c-town) simply does not have the population to support it. Maybe on the waterfront where there are towers, but not on 4th & Jersey. I think having parking would be a huge selling point for the store as they would rely on commuters, residents of Hoboken, JC Heights, Bayonne, etc to make a trip there to shop in a "specialty store." Sure you and I would walk there, but think about what's outside of a 8 block radius, let alone with winter coming and bad weather when people just don't even want to walk to a store.

You never know. If you've ever seen Pathmark's west of here, or in central NJ, it's a whole different store than the one here in downtown. At very least, they have great produce. The entire produce selection at the Pathmark here looks like the rotten vegetable bin in most other markets.

Ok, so we're all thinking gourmet shops because it's a market. The store is even market-ed as a gourmet shop.

So, I suggest:

The JC Food Co-op.
Fairway.
A nice, Italian import market like Sal's Gourmet in Shrewsbury.

However, since the price includes the building and the store, of course they could drop the store and change things entirely.

So, what else can fit on 8,000 square feet other than gourmet markets?

I already suggested an artsy-fartsy movie theatre.

A roller-skating rink.

A microbrewery/ brew-pub and restaurant, etc.

A pocket park!

Uh...it's going to be a Western Beef. So get used to it.

Ugh and that goofy logo they have...it looks trashy.

This is not an upgrade. Really not sure how Trader Joe's didn't actively seek out that spot. It seems to fit the demographics.

It's essentially C-Town with a different logo. That location is terrible. There is no foot traffic and no place to park. As was stated above, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, etc won't open without parking. Now instead of C-Town, we'll have a cactus with a goofy face.

Re: 20% rent increase allowed in Jersey City?

I was under the impression that if a unit is 5 or more units, it IS rent controlled to the point that in NJ, a landlord can only increase the rent by 5% (or something similar... 5.5%?). It doesn't matter what everyone else is paying. As far as I can tell, a landlord cannot increase your rent by 20% if there are more than 5 dwellings in the unit. They can increase it by 5% a year until it comes up to market value, but not 20% at once.
