Like I said, I can understand an issue with outdoor seating, especially if it wasn't in the plans, but the indoor stuff? Stop it. We should be able to deal with this.

Unfortunately, some people believe the Rules are the Rules, and absolutely refuse to apply common sense. What problems could indoor seating cause for any neighbor? Seems like a technical violation.

But because even a technicality violates the sacred Rules, don't expect much sympathy.

There are at least 3 other business that have adhered to the rules in the vicinity of this bakery. Furthermore the community has decided this is what they want for their neighborhood. The only sympathy I have for Prato is that the place makes good food, and I'll be sorry to see them go. But man how can you open a business under such a ominous cloud?

I would like it to be explained to me how they ever opened in the first place.

This is going to be unpopular here but screw it I'm going to go out on a limb for these guys even though I barely know them and haven't bought a vintage piece since college.

These guys have been super involved in this community and their store is great for Downtown. I hope they make their fundraising goal and open a super sweet spot and can continue to support this community for years to come.

I heard they were combining More and Box Spring.

Box was sold.

Box Spring is going to reopen as a Bar called "Box Spring-Steen". Ok maybe the name is wrong but it's going to be a bar type place.

What are the metrics to be included in an SDA formerly Abbott District?

It will be disastrous when the State pulls it's funding or even greatly reduces it.

I used:

Pleasant fellow and got the job done. It takes a bit of time and I had to send multiple photos.

he is @thatjeep on twitter and it doesn't seem to be too active. His site also seems to be down. And if it wasn't late at night I wouldn't care. But last night he stopped right up the street from my home at about 11, and blared for a solid 10 minutes. And it was blaring, and not particularly good taste. I will get some water balloons for the next situation.

What, and have the wealthy & middle class cutout of the deal? Politically that would be the end of it. I especially love the arguments I've seen over the years that if the middle class lost their rent stabilized units they wouldn't be able to afford the private schools and weekend houses that make city life possible, and then they'd HAVE to move out to Teaneck.

My other favorite story was the couple who were so sure of stabilization=owning that they spent hundreds of thousands combining 2 units into one fabulous place only to find that they ran afoul of the then new decontrol parameters.

Could you post a link to that story. Sounds like a bunch of morons.

I believe that non of you will. I also believe that the trucks aren't worried as much as you are.

I can tell you first hand they are worried about it. The city offers these licenses then selectively enforces rules when they see fit. The food truck vendors have invested money in these trucks and time and effort and then when they have a working functional setup as they did at Grove St. and Hamilton Park, that too gets the short shrift. I know they have met with city council and business groups and have had very little movement in getting anything done. It is a shame because there is more then enough mouths' to feed, I was happily eating at Grove St. Market once a week, and getting Two Boots once a week, and going to any number of other restaurants other times. Creating an environment that eliminates my choices is a bad business decision.

Does JC reimburse you for damage to your car from a pot hole like NYC? I hit a doozy early yesterday evening between 10th and 11th on Monmouth. The poor guy behind me must have followed my swerve and hit the exact same one because we both had blow outs. Be careful over there!

I actually think this is more about maintaining the ability to call yourself a "Farmer's Market" than it is about the businesses in the vicinity of Hamilton Park not wanting the prepared food there. If you look at the list that was given out by the Two Boots guy none of the places in HP seemed to mind. In fact some of my friends that worked in the Neighborhood actually liked it because it meant more people in the neighborhood stopping in for a drink or quick bite. It's a total shame that these greedy buffoons couldn't see the big picture in the way these things work.

I don't often root for businesses to fail but Two Boots going the way of the dino's will not lead me to shed a tear. Totally ruining a nice little bonus of Downtown JC life.

Why is this even a discussion. We have decks. They are open to the public and they are half used. So the solution is to build more decks? How does that make sense?

These decks you talk about are not close enough for people to use. It is difficult to get around in the snow/ice, plus slush. Now you expect people to walk blocks in this weather to go an event. Another night of snow is expected to come which will hide the ice and uneven sidewalk.

Can you specifically tell us were you would put a parking deck?

Please a car is not a "valuable piece of property". It is a tool that's value rapidly depreciates. The average person shouldn't consider their Honda Accord an investment, or something that will return any value other then transportation to them. People would be better off presuming their car is worthless the moment they pay for it. Jersey City needs more parking like we need another tax abatement.

My family have been using them for about 95% of our groceries for as long as they've been coming to Jersey City. In a nut shell we have no issues with them, the minor issues we do have are handled with excellent customer service. The 5% of stuff we get elsewhere is odds and ends or stuff we forget. It's really a top notch service.

I also wonder if the non-food related businesses who also, presumably, pay fees to the SID, taxes, etc., were consulted about the actions against the food trucks.

My PATH stop is JSQ, but if I know the trucks and other prepared food are at the market, I'll sometimes pop out on my way home just to pick up something quick and cheap. Since I'm already there, I'll usually pick up a book or gift at Word, or some pet food at Fussy Friends, browse at Another Man's Treasure, etc. I wonder how other businesses in the area feel about cutting something that promotes that kind of foot traffic.

Is there a list of people that are in the SID, it's a great point you make.

3 - Legislation doesn't solve the problem of the fact that the food truck operators are getting a free ride by way of using city land (parking space) for commercial purpose without paying the equivalent of a rent for that space. Brick and mortar feel like they are operating on an un-level playing field as they have to pay rents which roll up to include both land use as well as property tax and the food truck operators do not.

There's already a model in place for parking on Columbus - why not just extend that to food trucks - have them pay $200/month or so for parking. In fact Columbus just south of Marin hits most of the criteria and it's a short move from Grove plaza.

Pretty much in alignment with my thoughts. Not sure it should be purchased monthly versus daily or block of hours and some other operational things like that, but in terms of high level approach I agree.

This appears to be a matter that many of your constituents take to heart. I believe if you solidified the rules there are more then enough mouths for all of these restaurants/trucks to feed.

I'm squarely on the side of the food trucks, as more options is always preferable.

I think the HDSID gums up a lot of this. They have a mission to help these business in Jersey City, and in a myopic manner the HDSID is helping their members in. So my question is why does the HDSID get this prime space to utilize? Wouldn't it be preferable to the city reclaiming the space and then managing the farmers markets?

Since Two Boots first started injecting his opinions on urban planning and how public space should be utilized, I've stopped going completely and I don't really miss it, and I was a once a week customer. I know several of my friends have stopped going as well because of the same concerns.

I religiously report the home next door which is vacant. However of the 5 times I've reported them since 1/23/14 only two have resulted in summonses being issued according to the Resident Response Center. Every request is code 020 inspection. Anyone know why there is such lax enforcement. Is there anyway to know what is happening, and why summonses aren't being issued, it seems it would be a pretty clear cut way to issue a summons.

Law firm for Jersey City agency charged nearly 70% more in its first year than previous legal counsel

By Terrence T. McDonald | The Jersey Journal

JERSEY CITY ? In its first year providing legal services to the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority, politically connected law firm DeCotiis, Fitzpatrick & Cole charged taxpayers nearly 70 percent more than the amount billed during the previous year by the agency's prior legal counsel.

DeCotiis, which was appointed the autonomous MUA's outside law firm one month after Steve Fulop became mayor last year, billed the MUA $655,673 in its first year representing the agency, according to documents reviewed by The Jersey Journal.

Genova Burns Giantomasi Webster, the MUA's prior outside legal counsel, billed taxpayers $386,192 in its final year representing the agency, the records show. Like DeCotiis, Genova Burns is among the most powerful law firms in the state.

Was this also a no-bid contract like the city had with Werner Lesniak? Because if it is, the administration is once again breaking the law (Healy did the same thing). Feast your eyes on

Jersey City Municipal Code sec. 3-51(E):

Awarding of contracts for professional and extraordinary unspecifiable services.

(1)

Subject to Subsection E(2), before submitting any proposed contract for professional or extraordinary unspecifiable services to the Council for approval, a Department Director shall solicit quotations, whenever practicable, for any contract of $7,500 or more. If a Department Director recommends that the contract be awarded on the basis of other than the lowest quotation received or considers it impracticable to solicit quotations, he or she shall file a statement of explanation of the reason or reasons why competitive quotations are considered impracticable.

(2)

There shall be exempted from the procedures established under Subsection E(1) any contract submitted by the Corporation Counsel for the appointment of special counsel to represent any officers or employees of the city in any legal proceeding or to represent the Jersey City Medical Center or its agents, servants and employees.

Last I checked, $ 655,673 is more than $ 7500. Never mind that the firm is not a Jersey City firm employing Jersey City people, which would be nice but is not required, but the city can't even bother to put these legal services out for a competitive bid when it is required to do so, it is downright criminal.

I don't think the MUA falls under this law as they aren't the government per-say but an autonomous agency. The spirit of the law is being broken though in my mind in awarding a no-bid contract for this amount.

That said is it possible that the law firm did more work this year and that is the reason for the increase in fees, rather then being just more expensive?
