Panels will last 20 years (maybe).

Regarding federal/state subsidies - do you want ME to pay for your solar panels?

Just askin.

JC applied to the Feds for a grant (Tiger Fund?) but did not get it.

That's the last I heard.

The flight tomorrow is a "go" as of now, but I am not holding my breath because it is supposed to be windy.

We'll see.

What prevents Jersey City from installing toll booths on Holland Tunnel feeder streets?

Call it an exit tax, if you will.

The Turnpike Authority (whatever the hell THAT is), and PA are screwing us with their traffic, so we might as well monetize.

I demand toll booths on all Jersey City Holland Tunnel feeder streets NOW!

A good tapas place. I mean authentic, with a list of good Spanish wines, plenty of chorizo, pulpo a la Gallego and gambas on the menu and Spanish hams hanging over the bar. Seems like a no-brainer, but it is probably easier said than done. I ate at Amada in Philly last weekend, and thought that a place like that would do well in JC.

I'm livid right now and am going to sue them. Everybody and their brother got theirs in the 2008 financial crisis. I was out of work for a year and a half. Tried to refiance under the original TARP because I experienced hardship. NO....

Then they pulled this same shit on my last year charging me $395 and saying no, keeping the money.

And now this...

I need a really good lawyer. Please advise.

Thank you.

Do not give your hard-earned refi money to these a*****s, big banks.

They are worthless, in every way.

Look up a smaller bank - Clifton Savings comes to mind. I had a good mortgage with them.

As for lawyers - I don't know.

As much as I would like to disagree with that (a bit cynical)statement, I cannot.

Folks shed tears and choked up in DC watching the flyover.

I think they cried for what ianmac wrote, perhaps not even realizing it.

That (kind of) sums it up. Kind of, because one may have the money to blow on that kind of rent, yet choose to save it for the rainy day (or investment), and put up with PATH in the meantime. But if you are 25, like Mr Rosati, it is not necessarily obvious to you...

:)

PS - ianmac - I am not suggesting that you are 25, just a manner of speaking...

I would cut Mr Rosati a break for the following reasons:

1. He has a decent artwork on his walls
2. NYC is incomparably better than JC or Hoboken when it comes to restaurants and nightlife. I mean, come on. When you are 25, and you can afford the rent, NYC (Manhattan) is a no-brainer choice when it comes restaurants and nightlife.
3. I would not dis the guy just because he came to NYC from Iowa or upstate, or whatever. The bright lights of the city attract the ambitious, and that is good.

I thought I'd start the topic.

It is supposed to happen next week, weather permitting, and views/photo-ops from JC should be awesome.

If it happens next week, I will take a day off from work to watch it.

The DC flyover on TV was breathtaking.

Religion and alive and well!

Let me take a stab at this. Hitler and Stalin persecuted organized religions because they were totalitarian mass murderers, and religious establishments were a threat to their power. This argument has nothing to do with whether atheism is good/bad, or whatever. Nazi troops wore Gott Mit Uns insignia; they exterminated whole peoples in the name of ideology, not atheism...

Don't bother getting a lawyer, waste of money.

You can go to court during your appointed time, you will meet with the DA and he will give you an offer. It will probably be about $400 - $450 for driving in an unsafe manner (I think that's what the name of it is) and will be no points against your insurance.

If you want no points, you're not gonna get off for less then $400 - $450.

Most insurance companies will give you a freebie, so 2 points may not affect your insurance rates. If you think you can live with the 2 points, then the fee will be much less then the $400 - $450, but your insurance may or may not go up. However, being you've been in an accident, you probably will not get the freebie.

All that said, how in the world can there be experienced drivers that think a "rolling stop" is an acceptable stop? Isn't that like Drivers 101?

Ditto all above. $400-500, no points, no lawyers. Have to watch them rollin stops.

Re: God belongs on the streets in Jersey City

I am going to wade into this explosive discussion, now that even Karl Marx was dragged into it (btw, KM may have gotten it right on religion, but his batting record on economics has not been great, to say the least...;)).

Anyway, back to religion. I happen to be a 100% atheist, and I would love to live in a religion-free society.

The problem is - how do you raise young kids as atheists?

I mean, it takes major balls for ADULTS to reject the crutch, realize and admit that there is no afterlife, that all we have on this earth is this life, after which there is NOTHING.

Religions exploit this basic human fear - nothingness after death - and they promise all kinds of after-death BS, heaven, virgins, nirvana, reincarnation, what-have you.

All BS and intellectual terrorism.

But how do you explain the no-afterlife to kids? They would be terrified. So parents, even though they know it is BS, feed religion to kids.

I think the "kid issue" is a big part of why religions still persevere.

vindication - I would not hire a lawyer in this case. If your offense is a 4-point offense, they will AUTOMATICALLY reduce it to a 2-point offense for an extra payment. If your offense is a 2-point offense, they will reduce it to a zero-point offense, ditto.

If you cannot live with two points on you record, then I think you are SOL.

vindication - go to the traffic court and they will give you a standard deal - pay a lot of money (about $400 last time I checked), and there will be no points on your record. No lawyer needed.

Last time I got stopped for doing 39 in 25, I refused that deal, paid $90 and took two points.

But my insurance is good about it - they do not apply a surcharge if you are a reasonable customer.

Do your math.

To me, the check box called "convenience" is huge, maybe even bigger than "financial". Proximity to EWR, NYC, the Jersey Shore, easy drive to places like Philly and DC (if I feel like it) is important. But yeah, I would check both boxes.

I thought I'd start the topic. If there was one already, Webbie, please merge.

I live in Jersey City because I got off the boat here about 30 years ago, and I just stayed.

Good location, jobs are in the City, or in NJ.

EWR is nearby.

JC is real, rough around the edges, has history, and its own identity. I like that.

It is crooked, but what town isn't?

So, why do YOU live in Jersey City?

Hear, hear.

Atheists are the most intolerant, bigoted and disrespectful to other people's faith.

That is, of course, when they are not afraid of those other people.

Bullshit... Atheists have never once asked you not to believe in god. We've never stopped you from partaking in your religion. We've never asked you to contribute to our charities. We've never as a group organized to control your life or to convert you to our belief system. And nobody has ever killed in the name of Atheism." We've only asked for one thing, that you simply keep your religions out of a government that belongs to all of us.

I will however give you the fact that there is a good side to religion. It gives people hope, it gives people a reason to be good and in many cases people have used the call of god or the organization to achieve good in this world. But none of that goodness proves the core of religion, that a god actually exists.

"Oh, and if you are going to lay the line on that Hitler and Lenin and Stalin were atheists, that may or may not be true, but what is true, is the only reason they espoused atheism is to quash any religious leadership so the clerics couldn't rally the masses, not because they truly believed in Atheism.
there are a lot of really dickish atheists out there. Like those guys that buy billboards and bus advertisements . Or like people that comment on messageboards about fairy tales and make believe men in the sky.

As dickish as those guys?
