Re: Snor'Eastercane

Yes this is a big storm, but picking the worst paragraph out a 2 page article can make anything look bad. Here are some other choice paragraphs:

There?s reason to believe the models may be overdoing it. First off, what?s happening right now doesn?t have a clear precedence in the weather records. Our best available number-crunching simulations of the atmosphere simply weren?t designed for this scenario.

The Hydrometeorological Prediction Center ? the same folks at the National Weather Service that gave Sandy its ?Frankenstorm? name ? have had to manually adjust their official forecasts to tone down the exceptional scenarios that the weather models are currently showing.

Right now, the most reliable model tracks have clustered in a relatively tight range from Delaware to New York City. Counterintuitively, should the center of the storm make a direct strike on New York City, the city may actually be spared some of the more serious coastal impacts from the storm.

Should Sandy veer further north of its current track and make landfall right over the city, storm surge could be dramatically lessened, though the city could receive about double the amount of rainfall ? up to a foot or more.

For these reasons, if I were a resident of New York right now, I?d be rooting for a direct hit. If given a choice, I?d take 12 inches of rain over six feet of coastal flooding any day.

Will there be some flooding? Yes.
Will we lose power? Depends on where you live, but it a real possibility.
Are windows going to get blown out? No
Is this going to be like New Orleans after Katrina? No way.

Care to elaborate a little bit more? Did you have a bile recently stolen that was locked up outside? I'm curious how someone stole your car twice from a gated lot that requires a key fob to open the gates.

Full disclosure I live at DM.

I thought you could bring a standard frame bike on the Path on weekends and after 7pm? Not like the PATH conductors have ever stopped anyone from doing it during rush hour as far as I have seen

Two time, and current defending, world champion behind the wheel. I'd say he was plenty skilled enough for some donuts and little spirited driving.

It's almost impossible to cut their skin with the clippers. Even harder if you use on of the spacer guides. I tired it by pressing it hard against my skin and nothing happened.

This is exactly what we did for our kitty. We think she is a Norwegian forest cat and she has the triple layer coat. We used to take her to Groomingdales once a year for the lion cut, but this year we decided to save some money and buy a set of clippers. $40 at Target and an hour later we had a shaved kitty.

If you have anything quick release (wheels/ seats) make sure you lock them up. My wife had her seat stolen a few weeks ago. Major bummer all around.

Other than than that I always try to park next to a move valuable bike. I want to give any potential thieves a better target than my bike.

Saw they recently added about 5 new wave style bike racks at the Grove St. PATH station. It was nice to have some room to park my bike yesterday; even with all the Grove Pointe residents using the racks as their personal bike storage area.

On another note does anyone know what the name of the show will be? Can I throw "snookin for love" in to the ring?

Sprint has been the only provider I have ever had, and I have never really had a problem with my service or dropped calls. As far as phone go I have the EVO4G and my wife has the EVO3D, both are great phone. The EVO4G is a little out dated at this point though. If you can spring for the Samsung Galaxy S2, thats what I would get if I could. Or if you can wait a few weeks go for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Azul, how hard is it to get the Soft Paws on the nails? My cats are pretty squirmy when I cut their nails. How long do they last?

Like Nana said they last until the cat sheds it's nails. The people who make Soft Paws recommend cutting them off if they don't come off by themselves after a couple weeks.

As far as putting them on I think it really depends on the cat. One of my cats just kinda goes limp in an act of non-violent protest. She sits there and takes it and then she's done in a few minutes. My other cat fight like hell, especially when you do her hind feet. It's definitely a two person job and takes patience and breaks between trimming nails and putting the soft paws on.

Give it a try, worst that can happen is you don't get them on and you're only out a few bucks. You can buy nail caps at pet stores like petco or pet smart. Not soft paws brand name, but they are pretty much the same thing (just not in all the awesome colors)

Re: preventing cat from scratching sofa

I've got two options for you.

1. Take some masking tape and fold it over into a loop. stick the loop in the areas where kitty likes to scratch. It's not the most attractive solution but kitties usually don't like the sticky feeling on their feet. Replace tape as it becomes less sticky.

2. This is what we do to prevent two cats from scratching. Soft Paws are nail caps that you glue onto kitties nails. It doesn't bother them, or prevent them from doing all the normal things they would do, just stops the nails from ripping up things. Doesn't hurt your kitty if they pull them off and swallow them, trust me I have seen them come out the other end in the littler box. Plus they come in colors so it looks like your kitty got a manicure.

Soft Paws are a little more more than the tape options because you need to trim the nails first then glue all the caps on but it works.

sounds like you have/ had a quick release seat. Thats a no brainer to either remove it yourself or run at least a cable through it. Take a tip from the hipsters and run a length of bike chain thorough the seat and frame. It's easy to do, and hard to cut. Do you have any other indications the guy you took a picture of, other than being "shady", that he would be the person who took your seat?

I'm a huge fan of Ibby's and love their food. However, after reading up on Gypsy Grill here, my wife and I decided to give them a try for lunch today.

We felt Gypsy Grill was mediocre and did not compare to our consistent exceptional experience with Ibby's.

We've been visiting Ibby's since 2008 and actually make a special trip into JC from Central New Jersey for their falafels, babaganoush, hummus, chicken kabobs, and shawarma.

Being huge falafel fans we've tried most of the recognized falafel joints around NJ and still haven't been able to find something comparable to our love for Ibby's taste and quality.

It's sad to hear about the negative customer experiences. We visit Ibby's at least 8 times a month and often introduce our friends and family to the brand. Our guest usually end up being customers making their own trips to JC to satisfy their craving for Ibby's.

During our most recent visit, we had family visiting us from London who wanted try the best Falafels in the U.S.. We took them to both Mamouns and Ibbys. They all said Ibby's had a better product compared to anything they've had in London which happens to have some great Lebanese restaurants.

Although I wish the best for Gypsy Grill, my love and patronage shall remain with Ibby's Falafel unless another competitor can do it better.

hmmmmm....lets see first post and an absolute glowing review of Ibby's. Who wants to bet Jerry_Kakaku is the owner at Ibby's, or at least works there?

I'm gonna have to call Bravo Sierra on this one

Re: Indio's Place on 1st
Home away from home
Home away from home

TL;DR Indios isn't the worst bar in JC, but it's up there.

I lived on 1st st a few doors down from Indios for years. Thank the sweet baby Jesus that I am out of there. I only moved a few blocks but the difference is night and day.

During my time on 1st st I witnessed the following related to Indios

- Had my car hit by the drunks leaving late night. My neighbor who called me to let me know what happned actually witnessed the person leaving Indios, getting in his car up by Colgate, and smashing several cars as he fled the area.

- A constant supply of broken beer bottles, empty beer cans, empty drug baggies, and used condoms littering the street.

- Numerous fights outside the bar, one where some poor girl was getting her face rearranged by another girl who went into Indios to find her.

- Very loud motorcycle exhausts, car exhausts, and LOUD music coming from peoples cars at 2am-3am.

I'm not one of the people who think it needs to be perfectly quiet, I know we live in a city, and I'm ok with a certain amount noise and litter. But the fact is Indios is a blight in the neighborhood. I also know that Indios is never going to lose it's liquor license or get closed down. If the police raids and arrests related to Indios haven't closed it down yet, I doubt much will.

If you own property on 1st st, it's fair to say that Indios is not helping your property value, and going away could only do good things for the block. The pocket park on first being refreshed would be a great thing, but the current design is not going to be implemented untill the house next to it falls down (or is taken down) and Indios is gone.
