Certain daycare centers advertise "Live Cams" where parents can log onto a web site and watch the daycare live. Perhaps a parent's group should petition the city to put cameras up in public playgrounds.

not sure if this belongs in this thread, but thought it was worth mentioning.

last summer, while at a red light, a Hummer made a right turn and drove straight into me.

I flagged an officer down, who filled out the report, but REFUSED to address the fact that the driver was STINKING DRUNK. I'm talking about bleary eyes, beer breath, wobbly, the works! The guy even told me he drank a 6-pack.

The cops were INSISTENT that the man wasn't drunk, and their attitude was a way of telling me not to push the issue.

Why would JC's cops ALLOW for a drunk driver to get back into the truck and go home?

My only guess is that it was the end of their shift and they didn't want the extra work...

Wow. What BS. I wonder, if in hindsight, there was anything to do in that situation. Call the state police?

Re: Van Vorst Park Dog Run

Quote:

I think that, conceptually, it makes sense that if you aren't a dog owner but like dogs, the logical place to be so you can pet dogs is in a dog park. However, if you understand the bigger picture, you might understand why a dog owner in a dog park is unsettled by the presence of an individual without a dog, hanging out in a dog park, whether it is sitting on a bench, or even just walking around it petting the dogs. It's unfortunate that the 2% of the population that might have some malicious intent ruin it for the remaining 98% of the population that generally just love dogs. That said, I absolutely feel that if you are in the dog run, you must have a dog accompanying you. The part about being in a couple, well I think it is evident if you are with a significant other when you bring a dog into the dog park.

Again, in my case, there were park benches abounding throughout VVP with no occupants. This individual just decided to plop down on the bench in the dog park and watch the world go by. It wasn't a coincidence that, within three minutes, everyone with a dog left the dog park and left him sitting there, alone. Not sure how long he sat there, however.

Points well taken. Same with us dog owners, 2 percent of people who don't pick up after themselves have some people hating all dog owners. I never knew the rule, and like I said, did it like three times in my life. And I always asked the owners if it was okay and talked to them a bit. So call me ignorant for not reading a sign, and I won't do it again, but it's a different issue anyway from someone just hanging out there by themselves.

jennymayla, if you really can't see the difference between kids and dogs, I'm glad I didn't grow up in your household. What your position on toddler leash laws?

A couple of times in my life, and once in VVP about a ear ago, I stopped in a dog park without a dog. I'm a dog lover (no unsavory jokes please), petted a few dogs (man, am I leaving myself open) and talked to a few owners. I don't think there's anything too wrong with that. I was only in for a total of ten minutes and don't think I annoyed anyone. If someone is just sitting there I think it could be a little creepy. The only excuse I could think of if it's a nice day and all the benches are taken elsewhere.

"Did anyone notice the taxes, $17.5k? that will quadruple in a reval if it actually sells, that's more like for a place assessed at $400k"

That's probably a five year tax abatement. Wait till the real taxes kick in. I was talking to a real estate agent last night that said the place is gorgeous, but won't get near that price. The pictures on the site suck. Bad marketing.

Doesn't seem like a smart move on the mayor's part: going against the voice of the people in an election year. I don't have kids but I'm for an elected board. It also sets up backstage dirty politics. Donate to my campaign and I'll appoint your wife on the board kind of scenarios.

Who cares what he wants. He moved out. You don't want him on the lease. That's his problem. You need to step back and realize it's not that complicated. Just renew the lease without him.

Re: Lease Renewal Question

I had a roommate move out and I took over the whole lease. Very similar situation; it was a Management company also.

Yes, my new roommate had to pay me and I had to take the risk he wouldn't bail.

If you're willing to do that, I don't see what the problem would be. They don't have to go thru the hassle and expense of a credit report and finding new renters. That being said, just google NJ tenant's rights. You'll find a lot of info. I found this:
http://www.lsnjlaw.org/english/placei ... e/knowyourrights/thchone/

Here's a quick snippet:
You also may contact LSNJ?s statewide, toll-free legal hotline, LSNJ-LAW?, at 1-888-LSNJ-LAW (1-888-576-5529). The hotline provides information, advice, and referrals to low-income New Jersey residents who have civil legal problems. This service is provided at no charge to applicants who are financially eligible.

Re: Lease Renewal Question

Just tell the landlord that your roommate is moving out when the lease is up, and you're taking over the whole apartment. The old lease will be up so no letter is needed. The new guy can't get on the lease anyway cause he has no credit history. You will have to take a risk trusting the new guy, or get someone else all together if you want another person on the lease with you.

Does the first roommate think his gravy train is going to end? He could cause potential trouble, but what he did may be a violation of the lease, so at the end of the day, he can't say anything.

I think while listing by time would help me; I am always rescanning the venues. Also sometimes it's frustrating when you go to a place and it's just a restaurant that changed it artwork on the wall, and everyone's eating and it looks like a regular night there. I am also one of the people who start late and would like to see more night events, but that's not everyone.

That being said, Christine does a great job and should be commended for all the effort she does. There's bound to be growing pains and you can't please everyone. I'm glad it exists and if the venue listing isn't in an order I like I can live with it.

I'd also suggest writing Art House Productions with suggestions. They seem like the type to take feedback well.

If they want money then the City should have a percentage.

Also, It'd be nice to have another theater than Newport. If they aren't making money then they need to shake things up. Otherwise they'll just need money again in 6 months.

Is there a board we can write to?

Where can I donate books?
Home away from home

I could just give them to Goodwill, and that way get a tax credit. The Jersey City Public Library says they don't take book donations, which surprised me. I buy and read a lot, and some titles, while popular, I don't want to keep. Maybe a local High school?

Re: Can anyone in local goverment hold thier drink (Lipski this time)?
Home away from home
Home away from home

Here are some posts from the band's forum:

I can confirm. We were standing on the left side of the floor and all of a sudden my friend gets pissed on by this jack-ass from the balcony. A drink pouring out of someone's hand would look a lot different than an arching stream of piss-and that's what it was. The crowd cleared out a circle on the floor and starting pointing up at the balcony to this dude. We all saw it and there is no denying what it was...sad part was that it took the club about five minutes to actually kick this guy out...and then another ten minutes to clean it up off the floor.

I was two feet away from his "target zone", if you will. No doubt about it, he took his dick out for all to see and pissed for the better part of what seemed like a couple of minutes, but I'm sure was more like half a minute. You don't spill a drink in a wildly aimed stream like a supersoaker.

I was gonna stay out of this, but Steve lying about the whole situation, and saying he spilled drinks on people really pisses me off (no pun intended). I was there, I saw him do it, and I actually got hit on my lower stomach and leg by his stream of never-ending piss... Luckily, I was not the young lady who was near by me who got completely soaked in urine..
Everyone deserves a second chance, but own up to your mistakes... spilling drinks on people, #OOPS#ing bullshit!! You got drunk, you pulled your dick out, you urinated on a bunch of people below you, including me, and now you're trying to cover your ass by lying about it and acting like it's no big deal... in my opinion, you deserve to get chewed out by others.

"Give this guy a break. did he get piss drunk and act stupid, theres no question to date, at the end of the day he's human and makes mistakes just like the rest of us...

Can't get over just how many of you get off on this crap!"

First, it was piss not crap. Give him a break? How would you like to get pissed on.

I'll admit I've been really drunk and pissed some places I probably shouldn't of, but never on anyone. Even in a drunk stupor there is a thing of common decency. And if you're a public official, you should be double careful. I hope he gets ousted from office.

The band is called Dark Star Orchestra.
http://www.darkstarorchestra.net/NEWSITE/HTML/dso.php

There is a forum on their website, and of course this is a topic. Her is an excerpt from one of the posts:

"I've seen some pretty bizarre crap in my time, but nothing like this absolutely brainless, thoughtless self-centered act of complete disregard for others. I don't care how f**ked up anybody is; people are ultimately responsible for their own actions and this guy needs to be held accountable by the community... not just the DSO community, but certainly his constituents as well.

I was about ten feet in front of Kevin and the guy barely missed me; I've never seen a tightly-packed mass of people move so fast at one time. What a dips**t..."

The Republicans are the ones who want to amend the constitution - to say gays can't marry. This would be the last amendment to TAKE away rights rather than grant them (i.e. women voting) since prohibition.

I don't have a problem as some do with people owning handguns for protection or shotguns for hunting, but I don't see what what someone needs with a sub-machine.

I'm almost positive the 14th Street Garden Center does this. The owner's name is Mike and he's pretty cool. They built my patio two years ago. They were the best price when I was comparing and did a great job.

I have an 83 Mercedes that needs a little work (small engine leak and one window doesn't work). I live in the Hamilton Park area. Does anyone have a good (honest) mechanic in the area?

Thanks in advance.
