Re: Flooding in Jersey City
Home away from home
Home away from home

Part of the reason there is flooding in JC, contractors are pouring concrete down the basin. On St. Paul and Liberty, there are new corners. When they finished the job, the concrete material went down the storm drain. This happens all over JC. More development more concrete down the drain and more flooding. 2

The election law should be changed. If a person drops out then the third candidate should be in the runoff, the election requires 50% plus one. Chico at this point has 37%. That is not representing the majority.

The cops should launch an investigation on this matter because the student is a minor.

I spoke to the Business Adminstrator awhile back. He said the properties are now computerized and the city plans to do a reassessment every two years after this reval. That does make sense; however, abatements are not ratables and that affects everyone taxes regardless of a reval.

Re: Exclusive Interview with Steven Fulop and Candice Osborne

A little info, the state of NJ forced JC to do the revaluation in the mid 1980s. Then Mayor McCann signed the contracts but it was finished under Cucci. It is now up the county to stop the reval and why would they? The county would receive more money. Plus Hoboken has already started the process. Also Newark was sued by another Essex county municipality because Newark had low assessments was forcing other towns to pay more money to Essex County. If by a miracle the reval was to stop, then the state would only forced JC. Then it would be known as Fulop's reval and he would get the blame. He probably will give abatements in other parts of the city, which will effect the ratable base. But if the reval is done now it would still be Healy's reval. It doesn't benefit Fulop to stop it although it would be a temporary stop gap for downtown homeowners.

My friend is handicapped and went to vote at P.S. #11, he says you normally go in the rear of the school to vote where there is no stairs. Today, you had to vote in front, in which handicapped people had to use the stairs. This is a form of voter suppression.

Re: Fulop (as Mayor) will stop the reval?

Once the county accepts the city request for a reval, nothing can stop it. The reval also effects the county budget. In the early 1990s, one of the municipalities in Essex County sued because Newark ratables were lower. That municipality said they were paying more county taxes. Secaucus is the only municipality that is paying the full tax rate in Hudson County, our ratable base is artifically low partially due to abatements and not a current revaluation. They would probably sue if we do not go through with it, although I do understand the concerns.

Tonight, April 25, 2013, Ms. Lopez left the council meeting early. The council meeting is considered city business but she did not leave early for the debate. There are many supporters out there who criticize me for not changing the date. If Ms. Lopez wanted to attend the debate she would have made the effort.

If you ever attened an caucus or council meeting you would know the council members leave early all the time to attend meetings. It is a matter of choice.

Terrance McDonald, the Jersey Journal reporter, also attended the caucus meeting. He arrived 5 minutes before 7:00 PM to the Ward C debate. After the debate, I asked him about the caucus. He said when he left, they were near the end...meaning Ms. Lopez could have arrived if that was her wish.

The one thing I heard that was worth listening is the overcowding of the PATH system. What mayoral candidate besides Dr. Malik have expressed these concerns? Should more high rises in Journal Square and Downtown improve our quality of life?

This reminds me of the 1985 mayoral race. Some public housing buildings received what looked like an eviction notice signed by Gerry McCann. If McCann wins that rents would skyrocketed to then market rate housing. I know some people thought this was real and physical assaults did occur among different political groups.
