Re: Where to park in JC while on vacation

Home away from home

I know of a couple that used to live in downtown Jersey City. They recently moved to Manhattan. However they left their car parked over on the streets behind BJ's (Morgan St., Bay St., Warren St.). Evidently you can park there for extended periods of time without having to move it for street cleaning.

Why do they keep saying it is "stranded"? Appears to me the seal is doing what they like to do much of the time which is relax on any solid object located in a body of water. If the seal wanted to swim away it would simply roll itself off the side.

Went there on Monday night. Had a blast. Didn't try anything on the menu but I think the kitchen wasn't open yet. Had a couple of cocktails and a few pints of beer. Owner bought me a shot. Nice guy. Nice to see they had Chimay on tap. In short I had a great time there and the atmosphere was a vast improvement from when it was the ale house.

I see your points but I'm sorry, I still think individual unit heating/AC units are preferable. One thing not mentioned in regards to communal air/water systems is that when the air conditioning and water heating systems break (which they inevitably do from time to time) then the entire building has to do without. I would NOT want to be on the homeowner's association board when that happens.

I don't understand why the inclusion of your air conditioning and water charges would be a desirable thing. If I am a person that tends to use less air conditioning why would I want to subsidize the air conditioning of my neighbor who blasts the air conditioning all day long. Same thing goes for water usage. I'd much rather have my own utilities that I pay for myself. The inclusion of the air conditioning and water in the common charges will just encourage people to waste water and energy. And including those costs in the common charges will just lead to the common charges increasing earlier and faster than they otherwise would.

Oh God that's funny. I do remember that. And now that you put it in that perspective I have a whole new interpretation of this. I can easily see how this is a case of someone's imagination getting the best of them. I can also see the argument of better safe than sorry. But now that I know that this was from the same person that kept saying "hubby" all the time I feel it's the former.

For all we know it could've been his nextel that was freaking her out. I noticed that the new droid phone often has a robotic sound to the voice. The "victim" is a very nervous person and may have just over-reacted. I think if she really felt in danger she would've called the cops right away.

It's amazing how this post puts a much less alarmist tone while also appearing to me to paint a much more accurate picture of what went down. The events as described here are pretty much what I pictured them to be from the start.

Just to be clear I'm saying the 4,5,6 tunnels, not the trains, might not be wide enough. If you know for a fact the tunnels are wide enough do you know what the measurements are?

Also are you sure the train car lengths won't be an issue? The 4,5,6 tunnels have some very tight turns and their train cars are built short enough for them to be able to navigate the tight turns without scraping the walls. Are you sure the PATH train cars are of short enough length too?

Just asking.

Re: Advocates want to Connect/Incorporate the PATH with 4 or 6 train

I don't think the PATH trains would fit in the existing tunnels for the 4,5 or 6 trains. If you ride those trains regularly, which I do, you will notice those trains are much narrower than the PATH trains. And I'm prettty sure the tunnels for the 4, 5 & 6 trains are similarly narrower. I know for instance that trains such as the F, B, & D are wider and their tunnels are wider than the 4, 5 & 6 trains. This results in the NYC MTA being able to have 4, 5 & 6 trains travel on F, B & D tracks but the F, B & D trains can't travel on the 4, 5 & 6 tracks.

I think the PATH trains if anything would have to connect to tracks that accomodate trains like the A, C, E, B, D & F not the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 trains.

Adonis, is your name Rich?

I met 2 customers named Tom and Rich last weekend and I am trying to reach out to them because we overcharged Rich by accident. They bought 10 bottles of Dogfish 120, but were charged 28 bottles by accident. I don't think they noticed because they were too giddy about the 3L of Chimay.

I have no way of contacting the customers, so please tell them to get in touch with me if you happen to be friends with them. Rich had mentioned that he is on this board once in a while.

I'm Tom. Rich is my sidekick.

Ya know what, I thought the amount we paid was little high but, you're right, I was too goo-goo-ga-ga over the 3 liter bottle of Chimay to pay attention. My bad. I put the purchase on my credit card and still have the receipt. I'll stop by at some point to correct things.

Thanks for being proactive about this and letting me know. Much appreciated.

Adithya,

I met you in Buy-Rite last Friday night. Your store seems fantastic and after spending over $400 for beer and wine in your store I look forward to spending even more. I found some really great bargains in there. And you seem to be a very nice guy and a skilled business owner.

I have lived in downtown Jersey City since 1998 and have been reading this website, JCList, for 4 years. With that being said I just want to give you some advice. Whatever you do, DO NOT start responding to people's negative posts regarding your business on this website. You?re not the first business owner to respond to people's complaints on this website and 100% of the time it ends up being a fruitless endeavor by the business owner. It's like trying to win an argument against a drunk. It can't be done. This website is so full of curmudgeonly malcontents it will make your head spin, especially when it comes to businesses in the neighborhood (or park renovations or real estate or whatever). So please feel free to read other people's negative posts but whatever you do don't respond. As somebody else said let your store speak for itself.

Yes they were the first ones I called. They don't have this type of tap. Here's a link to a picture of what it looks like.

I have a keg of beer but it needs a special kind of tap. It's called an "A System" tap and it is commonly used on kegs of Hoegaarden or Chimay. They are sometimes referred to as "slider" taps. I am hoping someone in downtown JC has one. If anyone has one I am willing to rent it from you. Email me at kavorkah44@yahoo.com.

Thanks

When you say it is cheaper how are you calculating that?

I see Comcast offering 15Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload for $42.95 for month to month for current Comcast cable subscribers. You say Verizon costs $60.00 for similar, slower service without subscribing to their TV offering. Do you know how much it would be if you just got the $42.95 internet service from Comcast without cable service? Is it more than $18 additional per month when you don't get Comcast's cable TV service?

Re: Pavonia Ave between Erie and Manila

Keep in mind also that having the kids arround all day can lead to inappropriate mischief. I don't own a car but I sometimes rent one. A while ago I had rented a car and parked it on Pavonia half a block away from the school. One morning as I approached the car I caught a few of the kids from the Cordero school playing around with the gas tank opening on the side of the car and others simply leaning and sitting on the car. Since it was a rental car I didn't really care all that much. But if I owned a car that's not something I would want to have to be concerned about all of the time.

Re: Pavonia Ave between Erie and Manila

I live on 10thst near that stretch of Pavonia that you mentioned so I know the area well. Personally I would definitely not want to purchase on that block for only one reason and that is this: the elementary school (Rafael De J. Cordero school) which is on that block seems to feel they can use that entire block as the school yard for their students. During the school year kids are constantly running up and down the street, playing ball, screaming, etc. I have nothing against children playing but I wouldn't want to live on a block where an entire school uses it for recreational purposes. There are other bad effects on that block directly related to the school such as crazy automobile traffic every school day with kids getting dropped off.
