If you feel strongly about a revaluation then contact Don Kenny of the Hudson County tax board.

The revaluations are not about time limit it is when the ratable base falls. The last revaluation was 26 years ago. Our ratable base is in the 30%, a revaluation normally happens when it drops below 70%. The B.A. has no control over the revaluation. It is now in the County hands.

Another promise broken, while I like the B.A. taxes reduced due to expired abatements. So let's give credit where credit is due.

Re: Has anyone taken an upholstery class?
Home away from home
Home away from home

I would ignore the advice given about glue and nail guns, remove the fabric on the chair or sofa but save it. Then use appropriate cord to retie the springs. You might have to replace the web if the chair has web. Do not use hot glue or nail guns because you cannot re-position the fabric. Use tac size 6 and size 3, you can buy these at an upholstery place. You will probably need to buy webbing, and cotton. This can also be purchased at an upholstery place. Always start at the center and work towards to edge when nailing fabric. I suggest you use a fabric that has no prints the first time. My suggestion is to follow the way the chair is made when you restore it. In fact take pictures when removing the fabric. The only additional thing you might need is a curve needle and stong thread when you hand sew. Applying the back fabric to the trim does require a curve needle. They are inexpensive and you probably buy them at a fabric store. Use a large curve needle not the small one. Use the size 6 tac for applying web to the furniture and use size 3 tac for applying the fabric to the chair or sofa.

In 2010, Jersey City turned 350 along with the Church on Bergen Avenue. The Church celebrated its anniversary but not Jersey City. The city is older than the state.

Hudson County High School use to teach those skills years ago, but it became high tech and those programs were dropped. I actually took several classes there.

Ed Barocas, legal director for the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey, thinks transparency issues trump privacy concerns in the case of an elected official?s calendar, especially if the meetings with private citizens involve discussion of public interest. I agree with this statement.

So maybe if this story told us where in Jersey City the PA meeting will be held this might be considered helpful. No?

In the follow-up story by Terrance McDonald, there is a poll, apparently 79% said there should be a change. The information should be public.

The law was created to protect the public official, not the public. As I said before, public officials use security, water, lights, and public buildings to meet with people. While I do not think I should know what is said, I do believe hiding this information is not what transparency is all about. My solution - change any law that hides transparency.

It is now the council budget, they want to raise the funding for the shelter, they can. They can cut or increase the budget. Fulop runs the city but they control the money. It is about time they speak up.

My friend who had a meeting with Stack said: Stack has held meetings with constituents during the summer, where a street is closed off and a tent, tables and chairs are set up in the open.
You have to schedule an appointment in advance to meet with him. The meeting takes place in the open and on the street. Everyone can see who he is seated with during the meeting.

You are right what you say is not my business, but the fact you are meeting with him should not be hidden. Amazing, Brian Stack, ignore this rule when he meets with the public.

That law is there to protect public figure, it does little to promote transparency. The building, security, lights, water, etc is on the public dime. This is not a confession to a priest, these are people who are looking for favors with a person who has the power to grant their wishes. Now I have to write letters to my senator and assemblypeople to promote this change. A friend just emailed me and said Brian Stack meets with the public on the streets, everyone taking their turn. That is refreshing to hear.

What about developers who meet and ask for favors? Are they considered private people? Anyone who walks into a public building should not expect privacy. Granted the public may not be privilege to the content of the information but that is not the same as an individual or groups who enter city hall. The public should know.

That is absolutely baloney. If you walk into a public building that has cameras then there is no privacy. I would expect privacy if you went to Fulop's home.

I suggest all landlords to put this information in a lease concerning overcrowding. I always add extra items like recycling and not having a barbecue on the roof.

Re: Fulop proposes 2014 budget with 2.1% tax cut, investment in Jersey City parks

It is apparent that some people here have a political agenda on abatements because they are trying to correct me on a statement that Fulop made at the caucus, but they weren?t there. Even I checked with the Hudson County tax board and spoke to Don Kenny. He was kind to give me the 2014 ratable base because they are not published until August. Last year, JC increased its ratable less than $7 million but this year the ratable base went up $118,205,266. That figure comes from the Hudson county board of taxation. Fulop said he is not renewing any of the expired abatements. The new ratable base is now $5,932,776,544. As high as it is now, Jersey City was higher in 1988 when reval happened. It was between $6 to $7 billion. Before the reval, the city was $800 million. If the reval was to happen tomorrow the city would be approximately $18 billion and the tax rate would fall dramatically. I am thankful that Don Kenny is in charge of striking the tax rate and he doesn?t get advice from Brewster or Joshua.

There was no reason for the city to give the Beacon, Beacon Way when there is a Beacon Avenue or street in the Heights. So, yes, there should be name changes.

I was in the caucus room and I didn't see you there. Luckily the cameras were working so I suggest you look at the footage and that doesn't satisfy you then call Don Kenny of the Hudson County tax Board. The info Fulop gave is what the county has. Abatements expired and the city is $118 million richer in terms of ratable. That means a tax decrease for regular folks.

The Jersey Journal did not write a correct article. I attended the caucus, Fulop said the ratable base increase because he is not extending old abatements. I called the tax assessor of Hudson County and check the ratable base. The city did increase $118 million. The article implies that we have an extra $118 million dollars which is incorrect. For the record the new ratable $5,932,776,544, last year is was $5,814,571,278. The ratable base increased $118 million. It had nothing to do with the mayor, by not extending expired abatements the ratable base increase. And when that happens, taxes are lower for everyone. This is the reason I am against tax abatements, it lowers the ratable base.

There is an abatement coming up soon, but the developer has not completed other projects. Do you think this council knows this? No, because the developer will not say anything.
