JCman24,
Music Box aka Maria's Bar has been closed since last Monday, and not just this last weekend. I asked a friend who is a bar owner in DTJC if he knew why they were closed, and he said he heard through the grapevine that they were in some trouble. He wasn't willing to give details, but said he knew and wasn't surprised they were closed. He said he had no idea if the closure was permanent.
I hate this damn bar...I live across the street from it and the clientele it attracts for the most part are the scum of the earth. I hope they finally got busted for letting folks deal drugs out of there and or for serving those under 21.

That is awesome. I just noticed the signs on the outside of the place are gone. I'm trying to not get too excited.

It looks like the Music Box has been closed all weekend. I can't believe how quiet the neighborhood is when the idiots aren't around. Someone PLEASE tell me this is a permanent change.

If you're feeling brave, you could request an inspection from the city fire inspector.

Re: JC ECO Laundromat

Of course the machines smell nice, they're brand new. Give people a few months to ruin them with dollar store detergents and poor maintenance and JC ECO will be just another sad Jersey City laundromat.

Is there actually anything "ECO" about this place, or is it just as environmentally friendly as the crappy Eco Food stores?

the reality is for many in the city there is still a need for a car. If you don't work in NYC, you need a car. If you live on the western slope and want to go shopping on Central Ave, you need a car. For most of the city, if you want to go food shopping you need a car. If your kid belong to Girl Scouts troop, you need a car. I hate the how the city looks like when owners take out the front garden for a parking spot, but I understand it. The city has not addressed the parking issues throughout the city and with the demise of Parking Authority, we will only see the ruthless enforcement of no parking rules by the police department.

People are also tired of cars blocking driveways, sidewalks, crosswalks, and fire hydrants.

The immigrants who arrived here stayed with their own ethnic group. Polish Catholics did not attend an Italian Catholic Church. It is the reason, 6th in JC has two Catholic Churches near each other. Italians went to one Church and the Polish went to their Church. The homilies were said in Italian and Polish languages. People were expected to attend their own Churches and schools. Their was an ethnic part to each individual church. But as people move in JC, they started to attend the church closest to them. Father Santora ran a column a while back on this issue.

And right up the block was the Italian bar (now the Music Box Cafe) and the Polish Bar (abandoned building across the street).

How does this differ from the current arrangement?

It allows for new ones to be built by any homeonwer in an R-1 lot (25 ft. wide by 100 ft. deep, which is all over JC), exacerbating the issues we already have with the exisitng old ones which are grandfathered in.

I meant papadage's idea. I already see people parking in front of their garages. Is this currently illegal?

I will also add that, in my opinion, Chico's proposal is hot garbage.

I've been longing for as long as I've lived in JC for this section of the park to open. My dream would be that it would be left relatively untouched, with open running and biking trails with maybe a few benches and picnic tables. However, because of the dense vegetation, I also imagine that is would become a great spot for people to conduct less-than-legal activities.

There are plenty of secluded, wooded areas in JC where nothing much of any consequence goes on. LSP isn't exactly convenient to anybody looking for a quick hideaway to shoot up or smoke something.

Kind of sensitive there maybe you should give a hoot. At least with Stations of the Cross you know who you are dealing with, plus they can continue to walk in public without being in mystery. Try walking into a bank with your head covered. An un-trusted bunch. Did they ever think about assimilating ?

For someone who doesn't need to work for a living, you have a very uncharitable world view.

Sounds like crap to me - Safety officials should investigate as should Police - A pound of tape doesn't simply fall off.

I hope they perform an angle of projectile motion equation on where the guy was from the building to the height they claim it fell from. If it 'just' fell, then the guy would be directly next to the building. Also the construction co. should be sued and fined for failing their safety obligations - Things like this don't happen unless some-one is taking short-cuts.

Often stupid behavior or what one individual thinks might be funny have caused many deaths on building sites.

Resized Image

Looking at the photos on the first thread, it shows a Volvo truck with sheet-rock on the tray - The first thing I'd like to know is who was on-site working on the floors above. My first suspect would be how owns the tape measure. I have been on a site whereby sheet-rock fitters and plasterers would drop stones on these boards to create more work to patch. There are also situations when pranks got out of hand and injuries occurred.

F that, Yvonne. I may not be a big fan of Fulop, but I applaud that "shitty" line specifically. When discussing the Port Authority, and more specifically PATH, more explicit language SHOULD be used by officials in published reports because there is no other way to describe it. It's really the only way to draw attention to what is, in reality, one of the most corrupt, poorly run organizations in the country.

If you're offended by that, maybe you should disconnect from the internets and the world at large. It's a scary place ya know.

Bravo Fulop!

I am offended by double standards, a citizen was removed from council chambers last year when he held up a sign blasting an abatement, yet the mayor can use any language he wants. Riaz was removed by two cops during the give-a-way of the KRE abatement for 30 years in Journal Square. The abatement also put taxpayers on the hook for $10 million in addition to the 30 years. Double standards are becoming the hallmark of this administration.

You're the only one who cares.

When a lease lapses, you enter into an automatic month-to-month lease. Landlord and tenant are basically on even footing. You would have had to given 30 days notice. That is the law.
