I did a quick google search. Per this article, they got a 5 year tax abatement.

There are also a couple of articles of what they were planning to build before the housing market collapsed.

http://www.hudsonreporter.com/view/fu ... July-4-on-remediated-land

All I can say is, if they plan on building a casino, there better NOT be any tax abatements doled out. Also, there better be some sort of revenue sharing program that goes directly for property tax relief for the rest of us and other community reinvestment.

First off, JC gets a tax relief check of a half a BILLION dollars a year from other NJ taxpayers to run JC schools. Consider yourself lucky.

Second, for the 160 acres they use, they don't have people living on that land-sending kids to schools, needing fire protection for houses on that land, policing the non-people who live there, etc.

Do you ever say to yourself, ?is it possible to sound more like a broken record?? I think if you are going to continue going to the well regarding JC getting tax money, you should at least liven it up a little. It?s just so freaking boring now.

You're in an interesting spot, Yvonne. You want the 'abated' to pay their fair share in JC, but don't mind that others are paying yours! :)

Just as we know what you are, we know what Yvonne is. She?s all about her own personal convenience and personal wealth in JC. You can add in some church stuff here as well. Nothing more and nothing less.

You, on the other hand, don?t understand that the second your property taxes drop to my level, you?ll have the Daniel Campbells of the world living next door. Try not to be so foolish and recognize that you get what you pay for.

When people have nothing to say, then they throw personal attacks, you make me laugh about personal wealth, I spent my adult life teaching in Catholic Schools which is not the vocation for personal wealth.

I have no idea what you are saying. Let me repeat, the state pays the lionshare of taxes but taxes have increased 40% since 2005. Anyone who pays school taxes are paying for people who uses the system but don't pay; therefore, the average person who pays school taxes are paying a higher amount. By the way my, children went to Catholic schools so the state and local taxpayers did not pay for my children.

Land is not abated, only the structure is abated. Why would it be a non-profit?

How can Booker be held accountable when Christie refused to sign a bill reducing magazine clips for guns? Let's hold politicians accountable for the things they can do.

Booker cannot change our gun culture, especially since the gun lobby controls Congress, even Christie refused to meet with the Sandy Hook parents. However, if he can stop truck drivers from falling asleep at the wheel of a truck, then Booker is doing a good thing.

For the same reason Dawn Zimmer did not speak about pushing the development for the Rockefeller Group. She felt she was up against a powerful governor and I am sure Cowan felt similar about Fulop.

more visitors to a city = more crime; it's a fact of life.

Explain NYC...

News flash, New York City has crime, at least some of it attributable to the fact that there are visitors from all over the world. Some of those visitors do get robbed/attacked sometimes. It happens. Of course, I will readily admit that all the extra tax revenue brought in and jobs created as a result of those visitors far outweighs the resulting added crime. I don't think the same thing could be said for Jersey City.

Also, when I say more crime, I am speaking in aggregate terms. The crime rate in Atlantic City is actually lower than it was before casinos if you count all the visitors as part of the city's population. But any way you slice it, the total amount of crime is higher - hence the need for more law enforcement and hence one of the previous posters' doubts about the Jersey City police being able to handle the added crime that comes with more visitors.

Now you sound like Mayor Healy when he said crime is down. The prostitution problem is really bad.

I remember Atlantic City before casino gambling. Gambling brought in more crime and prostitution. I actually preferred Atlantic City before gambling, beautiful old hotels with great lawns were torn down for rather standard boxy structures used as casinos.

I am not saying the truck should not be stopped, I went to a freeholders meeting probably a budget hearing and Freeholder Bill O'Dea was talking about getting legislation to weigh the heavy trucks. O'Dea said he was concerned about the weight of the material the trucks were hauling. He mentioned the city and the county does not have that jurisdiction. When the JJ article ran, I knew it was just politics, even the truck drivers know they cannot be pulled over.

Sorry, under state law, the city cannot stop the trucks. In fact the truck drivers carried copies of the law on them. The city know this. It is the reason Bill O'Dea said last summer he wants a law pass in the state legislation to allow the county to inspect and stop trucks. What Fulop did was for show.

After Fulop filed his Port Authority lawsuit, truckers complained they were stopped. The city cannot stop truck traffic it falls under the jurisdiction of the state. This came out at a county meeting last year because Bill O'Dea want state to change to law to have the county to weigh the trucks. But here is the story on Fulop Administration stopping trucks. http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2013 ... rsey_city_harassment.html

Re: Jersey City considers turning Newark Avenue into pedestrian plaza

You can live in NYC without a car, but where is the subway or bus service in JC? The lite rail only serves some areas of JC and the bus system has been eliminating routes. Thankfully, the jitneys have made life easier but I doubt if those buses can pass an inspection. By the way, I don't see any public official giving up their cars, are they taking public transit? I doubt it.

We will not request a traffic study because it might tell us things we don't want to hear. We will continue to live in ignorance because it suits our theory.

For this reason alone, change is necessary and the status quo is not an answer - A total review of the changing needs is being assessed and the pedestrian mall has merit, as the need to re-route the bottle neck traffic from the area.

So where do you put the traffic? Saying it needs to be re-routed does not answer the question. More development is slated for that area which means more people and more cars. Yes, in the year 2014, people do have cars.

Re: Pothole Inventory Report List

It's fine if residents call in pothole locations but this is the citys job. One employee could drive the entire city in a week and log them in the repair network. Word on the street is the citys very pricey "pothole fixers" are out of commission due to failure to properly purge them of tar after each use.

For some reason Healy gave a 12 abatement in Journal Square in the former Welfare Building which is an eyesore. In terms of KRE, Murray and Charlie are brothers. Charlie stepped aside due to legal problems. I don't buy the argument he is not involved. Families transfer interests all the time due to these reasons.

Why let facts get in the way of a good conspiracy theory, right Yvonne? As has been mentioned, on here, to you, directly, many times, the Kushner (Murray) of the JSQ abatement and Unico is the brother of the McGreevey-friend Kushner (Charlie). The brothers despise each other, one (Murray) having been involved in sending the other to jail. They haven't spoken to each other in many years.

So I guess the Record is wrong too? http://www.lenehan.org/McGreevey%20reprint.pdf
