Re: New York Times: Smaller Building, Safer Bet? -- Picking your new condo in Jersey City!
Home away from home
Home away from home

This building looks nice on the outside and probably is nice on the inside also. But it's too bad these people didn't think long term - when it comes time to sell, it will likely be very difficult because directly across the street, (eventually) will be the other half of the Columbus towers. It may not be built next year or in two or three years, but eventually it will be built and they'll have no view (not that they have a great view now), no sunlight and a constant shadow. It's unfortunate that a nice looking building like this will eventually and literally be overshadowed.

Re: Top 10 Beer lists: In anticipation of Zeppelin Hall (beer garden)
Home away from home

No German beers here, but to each his own!

1 - Chimay Cinq Cents (White)
2 - Chimay Grande Reserve (Blue)
3 - Chimay Premiere (Red)
4 - Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
5 - Anchor Steam
6 - Sam Adams Winter Lager
7 - Stoudt's Winter Ale
8 - Sierra Nevada Harvest
9 - Sierra Nevada Celebration
10 - Sam Smith IPA

Most Sam Adams and Stoudt's ales and beers are good (Bluepoint brewery in Long Island also has some decent ones) but I disagree with all about Dogfish's 90 and 120 minute IPAs - all these guys do is dump hops in the brew and think they have this "different" ale when the flavors aren't balanced and it's more for marketing than enjoying a good ale. Too many microbrews coming out with heavy-hopped ales, thinking that they've just discovered something great.

Let's hope we see no Bud, Miller, Corona, etc. I hope this place is more like the Blind Tiger, Gingerman or dba's in NYC than the run of the mill places we have in Jersey.

"You are lacking etiquette" - did you also stomp your feet and threaten to tell mommy if he didn't move??

Maybe the police didn't give a crap because this isn't Mayberry or Bumfuk, Iowa - people are getting killed all over the city and you're worried about being shoved. Welcome to JC!

Montgomery Gardens - "despite the proximity, the craziness that occasionally goes on in the projects, stays down there for the most part."

A bit of an understatement - I hope you like your neighborhood.

Re: Liberty State Park in the evening

I run at LSP a few times every week, about twice during the week at night. In the winter the park at night is pretty much deserted except for a few cars passing through. I wouldn't say there's a strong police presence, but I've never had any reason to not feel secure. There are always police at the bridge to Ellis Island, but other than that you'll maybe see one or two patrolling the main road occassionally or by the ferry to the Statute of Liberty.

During the warmer weather it's a different story - plenty of people and usually no trouble. In the summer on weekends it gets crowded and you can run into some less than desirable people, but the park is so big an there are so many people around, I've never seen any problems.

It's just not the economy stupid - location, location, location. M650 is located on the border of a war zone. Real Estate 101.

Healy should worry about the increasing murder and crime in this city rather than commenting on things like this. He seems to take credit for obscure things he's not responsible for but everything else (real issues) is not his problem. Starving artists will get a space for $1 - big deal.

+1 With increasing crime and high taxes it's time to get rid of the machine. We don't need drunks, ex-cons or life long politicians that only care about the next election.

I tried them last night and they were vey good - warm, soft on the inside and a little crusty on the outside. I only had one plain pretzel, but I'd definitely go back. The staff was nice.

I can see them doing good there with more residents in the area, foot traffic from PATH/Light Rail and the businesses in the area.

Signed,

At least Lipski is truthful and out front in his announcement - he could have cited "personal reasons" or some other BS political-speak to bow out.

The little punk on the bike is lucky he's still alive - the cops won't know if a gun is fake or not - they'll assume it's real.

I feel sorry for the wife and daughter - now they have no husband and father due to the foolish act of some a-holes. I'm sure when they catch these two we'll all hear from their families how "good" they were and they wouldn't do something like this.

It's time for the criminal justice system to get some teeth and put people like this away for life. It all comes from the top - Obama's orders to close Guantanamo has all the terrorists the world over jumping for joy.

Regardless of motivation/situation, it's great to see the youth of Jersey City making a positive impact on the community. I hate to see what this piece of useless life does when he gets out of prison in a few years (thanks to our great liberal JUSTICE system).

I agree that Lighthorse is good, but the service is spotty and turns off a lot of people. One of the best beer selections in the area and the bar is great although some of the bartenders need to learn how to pour a beer.

York St. - wouldn't go there again if you paid me - enough said.

Triumph - better alternative to York St and quieter/less crowded than Lighthorse.

Taqueria - best tacos around, hands down. Great food at a great price.

Komegashi - best sushi in JC, always fresh.

Amelia's - decent food, great pulled pork sandwiches.

Who's the fool that paid that much???? Fo that price, you can buy in NYC (the REAL thing) or about 3,500 sq. ft. at the Sugar House or some other condo less sterile than Trump. The photo in the link above is wishful thinking - there are two towers - probably about 5 years ahead of it's time.

Yes, seriously, unless it's below 20F, you're better off running outside - it will better prepare you for the marathon. Liberty State Park, Central Park, NYC along the Hudson, on the boardwalk at the shore are great ways to run 20 miles.
