I have had panhandlers come up to me at the drive-up ATM (on kennedy and communipaw)... I'm very matter of fact, my car has automatic locks when I go over 15mph so its always locked but I had the window down and I told him, "don't come near me, this is a very bad place to be looking for money, back off" and he apologized and walked away. I usually give whatever change I have when asked. And feel better about it when I get a "thank you and god bless you" response.

I am not a McCain supporter, or Obama for that matter although interestingly enough may be leaning towards MCCain, I hate to hear how many people (my friends included) profess their undying love for Obama yet don't know sh*t about him or his policies.

And I take that back... you didn't say it but the way it was written made it seem like those were two ideas rather then one.

oh ok
It just sounds like your plopping a big supermarket there with an equally big parking lot. I have stated I had NO PROBLEM with it being replaced with mixed housing.
But not happy with just a "sprinkling" of low income units... but it's all about that all mighty dollar... well not so mighty anymore tho.

Well speaking financially.... You tell me where the people in projects can be "spread" to that they could afford? You think they will move to Portside on Washington, do you think section 8 will cover all of that.?

I am not against supermarkets, I am against supermarkets in place of housing... especially low-income housing that JC so desperately needs. Come on let's be real here, do we really need another supermarket? They have choice of Shop-Rite and Pathmark in that area within a 1 mile radius. I didn't say they were building condos, I was likening it to a movie that reminded me of that.
Again I ask people before they attack the previous poster read the posting, digest it , become it.

Then respond accordingly.

A supermarket?

Unbelievable....
You ever see the movie Slow Burn?
it's about this whole secret real-estate plot to blow up the projects to make room for bigger more expensive condos... this is what this reminds me of... There is a lot of greasing going on im sure.

I mean, replace the projects with buildings that will meet the need for both low-income and middle income people... Fine. Downtown has already become unlivable by normal blue collar workers as it is why keep stretching it out? And to replace it with a da** supermarket?

I love JC I really do but is this really the best decision for the city?

I agree the projects over on Montgomery aren't exactly glamarous, but more police presence, tighter security etc could have alleviated all of that, but they didnt want to do that.. and maybe on purpose, maybe they wanted it to get so bad that they wouldn't have been met with resistance in tearing it down. Something to think about.

The building are not nearly as decrepit as some in NY, BUT the crime is out of control over there. As in NY they need to hire their own small police force dedicated to those buildings, there are too many people and not enough police to patrol, of course... you know the old adage.. When the cats away the mice will play.

But that's neither here nor there. They have decided to demolish them and out they go. Over to Greenville, which I'm sure eventually will be subject to demoltions and oustings.

Like Kanye West said george Bush does not care about black people, JC does not care about poor people.

Just my POV don't shoot the messenger.

never in my short life have I witnesed police brutality till tonight I was just walkin down the block to get something to eat when the police decided to run down on a dealer ok fine a 14 year old girl was walking past when the told her to move it along when she told them she was trying to walk by maybe in a attitude well no rhyme or reason the cop pounced and proceeded to beat her bloody. I am shocked and sickened by this now you may know why I feel the way i do about certain police. The news has been called and the paper notifyed as well I am very interested to hear the cops version of this story. This is no stretch of truth but and eyewitness encounter. They are lucky they didnt start a riot out here because everyone was CLEARLY shaken and upset while it was going down. Watch the papers and news tomorrow hopefully it gets picked up. Very sad

Appeals Court Nixes Jersey City Gun Purchase Limit

Posted on 1010wins

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Jersey City's controversial handgun limit has been struck down in court.

A state appeals court on Monday agreed that the 2006 law limiting Jersey City residents to no more than one handgun purchase per month was invalid because it contradicted state law.

New Jersey allows residents to buy unlimited handguns with no time limit as long as they have a separate permit for each purchase.

A state gun association filed the lawsuit.

In Monday's ruling, the judges wrote that cities don't have the authority to make their own laws governing the purchase of firearms. The judges also questioned whether the Jersey City law would have an impact on public safety.

I know he will use everything I said against me, but then again I don't care. All that matters is I know the type of person I am not some faceless person on JCLIST.

1.Do you embrace the gangsta lifestyle, directly involved or assocate with those that do? - NO I DO NOT EMBRACE IT, I HAVE STATED BEFORE I AM A PROFESSIONAL FEMALE, I HAVE FRIENDS WHO HAVE MADE WRONG DECISIONS, I AM NOT FRIENDS WITH "DEALERS' AT LEAST I DONT THINK SO, DO I LISTEN TO RAP? I SURE DO, DO I PLAY IT AT A HIGH VOLUME WHEN I'M IN MY CAR? I SURE DO ... BUT I LOVE MUSIC IT'S MY ESCAPE...

2.do you think its uncool to snitch? "UNCOOL?" I AM NOT IN 5TH GRADE
have you ever snitched? NEVER SNITCHED

3. Have you ever had a felony arrest or dated a convicted felon? NO I HAVE NOT, A FELON? THE QUALIFICATIONS OF A FELONY INCLUDES MURDER, RAPE, BURGLARY... MISDEMEANORS... YES DOES THAT MATTER? NO

4. do you think most cops are crooked? NOT ALL

5. Is rascism to blame for the problems in the african american community ? NO... I NEVER STATED THAT, AND QUITE FRANKLY I NEVER STATED RACISIM AS THE CAUSE OF THESE PROBLEMS... SO IM TIRED OF SEEING THAT... I NEVER MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT AFRICAN AMERICANS

I cant believe I answered this, so you can make an even more warped view of me, according to your stereotypes.
Again, I am not a bad person, I volunteer, I own a shelter dog rescued from the HCSPCA, I clean up the garbage in front of my house that I dont OWN, I knock on my neighbors doors who oversleep when the street cleaner comes, I am pretty well educated.

Who blamed cops for the last incidents?? Show me
And what are you instructing us to do by taking it into our own hands short of attending meetings.

Hold protests? So all the dealers can know who we are so when they come to murder us, they know exactly who they are looking for?

If you live in a city, you can't have it all...
it's a city, this is not the suburbs... I think we need to focus on the crime then carts.. that's what i'm saying. I eat in Bergen all the time, I never go downtown to eat, if you look there are a few places in Bergen

Lafayette -

+ 1 TRILLION!

best post and most made sense ... coming from a true resident, they want to push everyone out of downtown... people who don't have to live paycheck to paycheck just dont understand it's not that easy it is impossible to afford anything over there outside of Montgomery Gardens (do they consider that apart of downtown even?)

And the affordable housing list?

I applied... it's a 3 year wait... for people who can't wait that long what happens?

Re: Greenville: 3 Shooting Incidents Hours Apart

But is it possible to reform a neighborhood without pushing out the long-time residents and making it as costly as downtown? That's my issue, I am all for a better quality of life, but I do like my eclectic neighborhood, I dont mind stray shopping carts or homeless people (even tho sad for them) but where is the compromise?

I agree with your post about the 10:00 curfew for the teens, why don't I EVER see the police enforce this? This should be something strictly enforced.

Look -

I am the first for being involved in your childrens lives, I won't scream product of their enviorment and give you a billion socialist facts cause it's all bullsh*t. A friend of mine went to her daughters !ST GRADE back to school night and out of 30 parents... TWO showed up, I was disgusted. I don't condone violence, drugs, gun, etc. I have had a gun put to my head before, it's not fun, I am the last person to promote the NRA... just because I feel one way about ONE incident does not make me an activist for "ghettoism"

NOT defending anyone that I think is justifiably wrong.... And let me tell you, if the investigation comes out with the tables turned on the cops... would u admit you were wrong? Or would that be too hard for you, cause I know I sure as hell will admit I was wrong.

But im pretty sure they won't ever write about this case again.

again I am not ANTI-POLICE
FYI I actually dated a JC Cop - funny for a cop hater huh?
funny as everyone else made their own wild accusations or pointed fingers you didnt stop to check their facts.

Never stated I lived in Maryland, I know people who do, and I read, and watch quite a bit of documentries, blah blah blah.

I'm tired of this, dont view me in a bad light because I differ in opinion, but if you do... then I am not going to beg for forgiveness for going against the grain.
