I'm looking at an apartment on Monmouth near Columbus. Can anyone confirm that Sandy & Irene (or any other flood events) didn't affect that area (lower level unit...)? The maps of flood prone areas that I have found online through JC List seem to indicate that it's good, but a first-hand confirmation would be even better.

In 2015, only a desperate idiot would rent ground level downtown.

"Some have portrayed this" - Who?

Why are we even talking about Christie? The conversation should be about the park, not your political circle jerking.

Christie opposed it because he said it was "irresponsible" to dedicate money to open space preservation. He communicated no opinion on the specifics of Liberty State Park's future.

I don't have a subscription to the WSJ, so couldn't read the entire article, but concur with the individual who replied. Is this covered in the same report as eliminating overnight PATH service? Is there some broader, spreading malfunction at the PA?

Yes, it was in the same report. There are a lot of things covered; the report is some 100 pages long.

Also, if you go to http://news.google.com and paste the headline of the WSJ article in the search box, a link to the full article will show up.

Knowing an insider, it's safe to say you people would be ASTOUNDED at how much overtime PATH employees are given without having to do any work. 20-30 hours a week per employee is a conservative estimate, on average.

MTA loses money too. Mass transit provides intangible benefits that must be subsidized by the government. In fact, there is not a single mass transit system in the United States that operates with a profit, or even breaks even.

It's like me buying a very old car from someone an being forced to maintain the look of the car. Didn't I just buy the car?

Let's take an example - Dixon Mills. Does the community really lose anything if DM would of been torn down? Besides feelings of nostalgia, what does it really do for you to save a building ? Those pencil making jobs are gone, the industry is about to be gone, and just by preserving the building - it's not like you preserving the story of Dixon Mills.

Now let's look at the cons of doing that - for years, DM was a leaky and rat infested building not because it was not well maintained but because you forced developers to use a 100+ year old building for living space...

Time changes, life becomes more efficient. Take pictures (do it on your polaroid if it it makes you feel better) but to leave an old building and force it to change with the times is dumb. Save a plank or something and put it in a museum.

If you don't understand something, what makes you think you're qualified to comment on it?

Dixon Mills doesn't have problems because it's old. It has problems because the developer did a cheap shit job.

Umm, freedom of speech? Good job addressing my points.

I agree. But what about cars swerving around pot holes? Pedestrians never watch out for that. I've noticed a lot more pot holes recently and I'm worried about a repeat of last winter's nightmare of holes on every street. Even as a pedestrian (I walk and drive) I have to be careful when crossing the street.

Sirens are basically mandatory responses to alarms going off due to loss of power.

Totally calling BS on this one. How would the cabbie be able to force/coerce a fare into performing oral sex on him!? The whole story is suspect, at best.

Nope, pretty sure it is over. There will be some worthless criminals who will do a bunch of stuff that will get them killed or arrested but there will be no do-over on this verdict, and society has spoken that it will not side with thugs over cops. You must be FURIOUS right now. :)

Personally, I've had a great run of things lately - between the Republican congressional sweep and this I certainly can't complain.

After Obama initially came out calling for a vigorous prosecution, I figured Wilson was going to get railroaded.

Nice to see despite the endless race-baiting in the media, and a politically correct culture that couldn't care less about actual correctness and the truth, that the court system still works.

Justice has been done today. The question is will the racists who only care about Brown's skin color accept that?

It is fascinating watching you call people racist.

If that means there will be some peace and quiet in the neighborhood, even if only temporarily, great.

I honestly never understood peoples' opposition to that place though. I lived across the street from it for years and never was really bothered by it. Yes, it could get loud sometimes but many people, including myself, moved into the neighborhood knowing full well that the place was there. They chose to "come to the nuisance" as the legal term goes.

People complained earlier in this thread about their kids' bedroom windows facing the noisy building - well why did you choose to live by the place, especially when you have children? This is a city people. You want quiet, tree lined streets 24/7? Move further out into Essex or Warren County. You don't want to live that far from your job? Not my problem. Not the bar's or anybody else's problem. I honestly don't understand people who continue to live in this city when they have school-age children who could easily afford to live in a quiet suburb with decent public schools anyway.

The place met all the zoning requirements and was not breaking any laws simply by being a bar. Maybe they were in violation of noise-related laws but again, this is a city. Live with it.

Well, don't you just have everyone figured out.
