Anyone know when Word is planning on opening? On their Facebook account they have a Chuck Klosterman reading scheduled for July 9th so it would seem that the opening is imminent. Really looking forward to frequenting this place. I'll be ditching the Kindle to support them.

From what I heard, it was supposed to be a late June/early July opening.

For the most part, PATH is on time and reliable. However, if PATH had a better night and weekend schedule I would like it a lot more. Rush hour in the morning is crowded, but if you get on a train before 8am, it's relatively comfortable standing room. Nights and weekends....that's all.

When Maxwell's closes, that will be a damn sad day in NJ.

Did i miss something? Is stumptown coming to JC???? It would be awesome! Love those hipster barristas :)

Stumptown won't have a store, but WORD will have a cafe with a barista and they will be brewing Stumptown beans, so essentially Stumptown will be offered in JC. I like that there are coffee options in JC these days. Dames offers Counter Culture, Warehouse offers Intelligentsia, and now we will have Stumptown with WORD's arrival.

Did anyone notice cupcake salon is closed? I never frequented their business, and it never seemed to be busy. The owner stated on the door that due to residual financial effects from Sandy, they decided to close that location. I wonder what's going to come into this space? The floor has already been ripped up, and it looks like some construction is taking place inside.

Agreed. With so many amazing beers out there, I would feel like Thirty Acres would find some beers that are as unique and interesting as their food.

When a rental or condo says "Convenient distance to PATH station." It should have a footnote that says the PATH isn't convenient to shit.

LOL! Thanks for that.

My comments are opinions, just like yours - As a motorbike rider and cyclist, road sharing with bikes is dangerous and if you do any sort of research I'll bet that bikes are only frequently inuse by riders during warmer months (seasonal), during day-light savings and days void of wind, cold, snow or rain. Thus having so much money and infrustructure invested for a small pocket of society and limited times of the year is not cost effective.

What this city needs to accommodate bike rides, is specific paths and tracks away from any roads or streets that is for their exclusive use. We are a growing population and our roads are only going to be more busy and if cyclists what to 'ride to the conditions' then the road would be the most unsafest place for them in JC.

Our biggest infrustucture demand is better public transport not bike lanes on roads - Some of us don't ride bikes because of physical / mental inabilities or simply don't have anywhere to store them at home.

So you're advocating not having bike lanes due to fiscal conservatism? How much do you think it would cost the city to paint dedicated lanes on some of the more heavily trafficked roads? If you're concerned about the cost of the bike lanes, why are you also suggesting we have bike paths and tracks constructed at all? Are you really suggesting that you would rather have increased automobile congestion in our city? I would think air pollution would be a bigger risk to our lives than sharing the road with bicyclists. I think if more people rode their bicycles and took mass transportation the roads might actually be safer! I definitely agree with you regarding the need for increased public transportation. This city does a piss poor job at providing it's residents with acceptable means of public transportation. If we had bike lanes though, maybe the douchebags speeding down my street, driving 25mph over the speed limit might be more concerned about a possible manslaughter charge and slow the F down?

a bike sharing program has the potential to reduce commuting expenses for many significantly. plus no more having to carry my folding bike everyplace. i have more options!

I agree with everything you said. However, look at it from a sponsorship viewpoint. What company or entity is going to fund a bike program in such an bike-unfriendly city? That's all I'm saying. Hopefully the planned bike lanes will be implemented and a bike sharing program will be in our future.

I'm sorry to see you didn't realize that I agreed with that sentiment from the beginning! However, I feel like you need to be more realistic. This is Jersey City, not New York. We have one bike lane currently. Until this city implements their planned bike lanes, we won't have a bike sharing program anytime soon. Small steps!

You think someone is going to sponsor a bike sharing program in a city that currently has one bike lane? I don't.

Expect A LOT of construction for the next several years. Toll Bros. are building three 40-story towers running the blocks between Marin and Warren. There is also another massive tower that's being built on the lot directly behind the Marin Blvd. Grove St. entrance. As for safety, I believe it's relatively safe.

Considering it's illegal in NJ to charge a corkage fee, you would hope they eliminate it, otherwise they're breaking the law.

It's not apparent to me at all, since I have never been refused tap water in the US (or in France). Under drought conditions, I have had to ask. Skinner's Loft plays a trick with the water if you don't pay attention, but tap water is available and forthcoming.

The question was whether it was legal, not whether it was right. I think it's ridiculous just so we're on the same page.
