I don't have that much sympathy for the borrowers who stepped out on a limb to buy a house that they couldn't afford. How could some of these people who took out adjustable rate mortgages now claim that they didn't know that rates would eventually rise. Are they stupid. If so, they had no place trying to buy a house in the first place.

IMHO, the only mayor healy's master development plan is making the developer's happy. don't hold your breath, expecting much from healy and his cronies.
now, i understand that 111 1st street was a safety hazard and in bad condition. plus, i didn't think that building was very attractive or even worth saving. it wasn't very pretty to look at. i think the butler building on the other hand is very handsome and in need of preserving, just my opinion. however, i do think that the architects could create a very aethetically pleasing building by preserving the core and building a tower atop the building. my main concern would be that they're not allowed to destroy a beautiful building by putting in a parking garage.

Please no more projects. I am all for affordable housing, just not projects which I think are a disgrace and one of the more enduring forms of racism.

If cutting housing leads to a decline in the number of housing projects being built, which only breed irresponsibility and anti-social behaviour, then I am all for this. Give low income people vouchers, instead of putting them in the projects.

So which Neighborhood association wants to take the lead in setting up such a fund to take these corrupt politicians and developers to court. Post info and I will send in a check.

Somehow we [the Citizens] need to set up a mechanism whereby we can sue the city, city officials and perhaps developers when they knowingly ignore/break the law. That's the only way things are ever going to change. I will gladly donate to such a fund that would be run by one or several of the neighborhood organizations.

I think a pedestrian mall would be great but there needs to be several magnets to attract people to the pedestrian mall, like maybe a movie theater. Also, I think the use of eminent domain would be a gross abuse of power since there are numerous viable businesses on newark avenue; the area is not full of boarded up crack houses.

I think that as the JSQ developes and more classier restaurants open up, then people will want to stay in JSQ as well as JC instead of always going to Manhattan. But there are options in JSQ now.

I am all in favor of historic preservation, but to be frank, I always thought 111 First was sort of ugly. Jersey City is not a museum and I think the city must progress. The city has so much underutilized poetential if they can ever start to get things right. A nice Kookhas building is a good start and the other towers going up are positives, but the sidewalks all seem to be too narrow and there is a serious lack of greenspace which is where people congregate, play, eat, etc. - look at union Square.
As for the west side, i think they need to reach sometype of compromise so that they can build a smaller warehouse but also have sufficient greenspace for parks, etc.

there's plenty of sapce in newark and harrison. It's like the rich don't have a right to have a decent home, but you have a right to a studio. some people are so selfish.

if the artists had so much faith in jersey city, why didn't they buy in jc. by now, they should have been familiar with gentrification. look at the east village, greenwich village, lower east side. maybe the artists should go to newark and start gentrifying that area. but please, make an investment in your future.

Maybe they should have 24-hour surveillance cameras and armed national guards and/or police on a 24 hour basis patrolling the projects. Something need to be done about the lawlessness in the projects.

I like artists as much as anyone else, but I don't see why the government should be giving subsidized housing to artists or forcing developers to. shouldn't teachers get subsidized housing, or fire and police personnel? what about social and non-profit workers?
